Prometheus (2012) Review || The Road To Romulus *SPOILERS*

In Prometheus and especially Covenant it really feels like all the good writing went to David and everyone was a second or third thought. He's so interesting and Fassbender is so damn good, its really a shame that the movies around him are just fine. That being said, visually Prometheus is amazing, such great vfx work and and the cinematography is so gorgeous. Also the score is really great.

Yeah, David is pretty much what the story centres around doesn't it. He is a fascinating character and fassbender is great in the role. I've got more to say about him in my next review for Covenant coming over the weekend. Cheers for dropping your thoughts to us though 🤜🤛

Prometheus could have been great. It’s still ok but they really dropped the ball with the script when they let Damon Lindelof butcher it. Should have stuck to the original Spaihts script.

Also, when I think of a visually stunning movie, Covenant is up there for me. Most beautiful monsters Ive ever seen (though that's kind of the thing of Alien movies, right, they are all beautiful)

Great review mate. I respect this movie a hell of a lot more now on rewatch. Third act is insane. Your right about it being a prequel with not too many answers but I was still very impressed that Scott somehow managed to connect this world to Alien whilst bringing us a story that felt so different. The deleted scenes would have prevented some of the awful plot points (like why they were friendly with the alien worm, why they wake Weyland, why the engineer kills Weyland). But overall it felt like the origin story nobody actually wanted grafted onto another sci-fi project.

As much as a sucker for deleted scenes I am, I've never actually watched the ones for Prometheus, I might check them out over the weekend to see if I feel the same as yourself

If I think to much about it, Killing Shaw is a huge problem for me as this story continues. At the time however, I really thought Prometheus was good to great. I was enthralled with the creation story and the ancient aliens mythos. I thought it was like Zachariah Sitchin (Sp?) in movie form. I also love Guy Pearce as this desperate rich old man looking for answers before death. I hated David in this movie because I liked the dude he poisoned. I was so sad and tramatized by his death. But now I can appreciate how awesome his acting was by Fassbender. I was looking at the character at the time and not thinking about the performance. I just hated him from a certain point in the movie due to his actions. I think we should have let the movie breath more and explored the universe more. But of course Since it's Alien it has to follow some bullshit formula everyone has to start dying brutal violent deaths. In summation I like Prometheus and acknowledge it could have been a lot better. I am tired of slasher style movies where people are systematically eliminated down to 1 or 2 or Zero. Alien Romulus does not look good at all to me because it looks like everyone just dies as usual. I want the first 40 minutes of Prometheus for a whole 2 hour movie. Maybe one guy dies or something, but that not at all what the movie is focused on. It's about Exploring the politics of Weyland Yutani, it's about scientists studying the creatures and learning ala Life or OG Jurrasic Park. But never committing fully to just killing the characters in the movie like animals for Gore. Thats what I would like to see from the Alien Franchise, just once.

@SeekingGodsWill I do get what you're saying and yeah maybe it having to have that "Alien formula" laced through it does hold it back on what it sounds like you wanted out the movie. I'd say the more mystery element of the movie is my favourite part aswell, the exploration of the planet and the station they go into is all top notch stuff and yeah you're right, fassbenders performance is great in it.

Man this was one of the movies I was and still am totally bent about, I loved about 1/3 of it and thought the other 2/3 was awful. I wish it was either all good, bad, or mediocre, but this was just splt

Yep...its like you know there's a good movie in there and it does keep you entertained but some of the writing choices are just bizarre,even more so if you are a big fan of the alien franchise

The engineers created the xenomorphs with the genetic accelerator/black goo. You can see a mural of a xeno in thwir ship if you look closely. Engineers already experimented withbthe black goo and david took the works they had already done to create his own

@abrimfulofasha I don't think it ever says flat out in the movie the engineers created the xenomorph. I've always looked at the mural as more a sort of a tip of the hat to the audience. I feel the black goo was a bio weapon virus the engineers created to kill human life but then david experiments on it and perfects it creating the xenomorph. But I feel there's alot of different theories floating around the Internet. I guess alot of it is left for audience to fill in the blanks.

@Paul_Tambs so the genetic accelerator isn't a virus as a virus eliminates lifeforms. It's actually a pathogen that reconstructs DNA and manipulates it as you see happen to the scientists in Prometheus. You see the genetic accelerator in the trailer for romulus.. it's when you see the android holding a canister touching the blue mist.

I really like this one, but I am with you, it is lacking some answers to questions we would naturally have as Alien fans. Still solid for me though, LOVE the score in this aswell 👌. This is one of the most disappointing movies I've ever seen. I feel like they completely squandered the potential of the otherworldly derelict. It hinted at shit so different from humanity, and instead they gave us tired old busted alien progenitors plotline, and shoddily shoved in alien origin lore too. Mad

Also it makes NO sense how dissolving your genetic material in a river will lead to "100% genetic match" humans millions of years later. Like whhhyyyyyy was no effort given to making the whole conceit plausible.

Yeah it does leave you scratching your heads at some parts. I don't dislike the movie and can have some fun with it but I think the scripts needed abit of rework

@@Paul_Tambs You can make out the words okay, but there is a distortion buzz at the top end. Ideally your audio will live in the yellow zone and only just peak into red at times of emphasis. It sounds like you are recording in the red, and the more forceful sounds are being clipped. It's not obstructing what you are saying, but it is noticeable. Main fix is to reduce the gain on your mic. Alternatively compressing your audio, or some sort of noise filter can reduce the effect.
