I never understood the hate for this movie. This is one of my favorite sci-fi movies, and I also have it in 3D. This was back when they shot on actual 3D cameras instead of adding it later.

I'm one of the few fans of Prometheus, and I absolutely love watching these clips, the engeneer suit is absolutely spectacular, as is the rest of the production really, but the engeneers and their ships/temple are my favorite details being a lifelong Giger fan, and Giger would be so proud of this work. This said, I totally understand why people didn't like it. I'm into ancient civilization myths, religions and history, and into the ancient aliens theory, not the history Channel show, that is pure tv rubbish, except probably the first 2 or 3 episodes, but anyhow, this movie needed to be around 3 hours long to fully develop the story, but I'm sure both costs and studio interference didn't allow for that, and it's a shame, but a bigger shame is Scott falling for the criticism and not giving us a proper sequel, because Covenant, another decent movie, imo, as a stand alone, isn't a proper sequel, it fks up everything, both for Prometheus and the Alien lore altogether, such a gigantic shame 😢 There were such clever touches and overall details in this movie, but as I said only those deep into the ancient aliens lore picked them up, and people generally hate to have to read books, comics, or watch other media to understand a single film, which is why it failed.

@@SickOfItAll-do1cf I don't think he invented it. He just made experiments with it. The spores were already kept and used by the engineers. So to keep that explains, that the Xenomorphs developed out of this weapon and got out of control. Remember? In the first Alien movie with Ripley, they found the ship from the engineers. So I was always wondering, where they came from. For me it is a nice plot. And David's AI mental problem, feeling the need to play God, because of his prior experiences as a servant under Weyland, draw the possible dangers of nowadays AI development

It explains barely leftover questions and make even more questions, why? because they deleted important escenes and was bad writed. where they came from? not answered, why they attack humans? not answered(it was more or less but they deleted that scene), why they created humans? and I can keep going

This is one of the most original concepts…the Engineers and the explanation for how Life began on Earth. They should have continued to explore this Story. Instead…General Audiences want brainless repetitive Alien movies with the exact same plot, over and over.

I really like Prometheus, but I can see the hate for Covenant since what was teased at the end of Prometheus never happened. We never went to the Engineer's homeworld or explored their culture which could have been really cool, and with Shaw, who was one of the better characters, being dead, it was a let down for me. It felt like Ridley had a good concept starting with Prometheus and didn't know where to ultimately go with it and fell back into the tired and frankly boring comfort zone of putting the focus back on the praetomorph/xenomorph.

I think the only thing that really divides it away from the rest of the Alien movies was that they made all the technology modern to our times and how we imagine the future now, but Alien had already given us a vision, the 80's CRT clunky, dark, creepy aesthetic. If they could have made the technology blend better with Alien, it would have captured that little something that it lacked. I understand it would have been difficult to solve this problem since it's in the far past before Alien and so we are seeing the top of the line "new" tech, bright and shiny. But they just needed to make it like an alternate universe to ours where "modern" tech had more of an 80's vibe to it still. Maybe imagine as if early Apollo tech was the cutting edge in space travel as far as design goes. No touch screens or digital anything, all mechanical.

I actually liked this movie. The theatre was full a week after release and it sounded like everyone liked it too. Nobody left before the end. Yet... KZbin trash it. We have some of the best shows getting cut when before Smallville and lost could stay on for a decade. Lost wouldn't last more than 2 seasons now.

In these kind of films where there's a lot of production involved you see how small actually is the role of the actors. There's such a big role that the director and all the teams - art and costume etc put into it but after the movie is released all you see in the Oscars are actors dressed up really fancy and get all the stage while the people whose genius and creativity made the movie are left in the dark.

makes me sad they dialed down the giger elements in this one, the original concept for the structure on the planet was taken from one of his concepts and looked more like a huge alien egg with a very biomechanical head on top - bugs me they changed this and made it look like it was a rock dome shape instead :(
