I just watched this movie. I can say that the crew members are probably the dumbest expedition crew members ever. Millburn tried to pet an alien. Janek haphazardly opened the ship's door to greet the dead Fifield. Nobody cared about Shaw's 'pregnancy'. Weyland's crew met the Engineer without precautions. Vicker died because she cannot run sideway.

Lets not ignore in Alien 1 Dallas, the captain, orders to get inside the ship a guy with a huge alien spider attached, despite ripley being the only one with a little common sense and precaution to refuse to open the door. Also, Aliens 2, the marines, specially bill paxton, are 10 times more incompetent, unprofessional and childish than any prometheus member. Just to remind people that alien characters has always been idiotic and careless.
@Bob.Roberts
@Bob.Roberts 6 жыл бұрын
@@argusy3866: You have to remember that the crew of the Nostromos from Alien 1 are space miners, not scientists or soldiers; they are also close friends with each other, aside from the android Ash. Though they certainly had safety protocols, Captain Dallas wanted to try and save his friend Kane if it was at all possible. The marines from Aliens may have acted like over-the-top gung-ho jarheads, but when they were in the field, almost everything was by the numbers. In both cases, the xenomorphs are a new, undocumented threat; I would say that it'd be "unrealistic" if both groups reacted to the aliens' presence with cool calculation. This film though, I have to agree that these crew members, of whom most are scientists and engineers, act in a way that is uncharacteristic for their professions. I would in fact call the story as lazy writing to not come up with more reasonable explanations for how the crew members eventually get infected by the goo.

They were hired by Charlize Theron because Weyland was in Cryo as he faked his death (and she wanted this mission which he weyland spent a large sum of his fortune on which in turn was her inheritance) to be deemed a failure and prove to her dad that it was all for nothing so she picked low scale versions of the scientists that they required

This dude is supposed to be an "exobiologist" yet continued trying to pet a creepy alien snake-thing despite it taking an obvious threat posture. This dude is supposed to be a geologist yet managed to get lost despite mapping the terrain with his drones (and wearing a device that tells him his location). This woman opened the ship's door just to tell the crew they can't come in. This other dude opened the door again to see what was outside when he had no reason to open it, or better yet, to kick a corpse. Shaw's "pregnancy" happened; no one cared, not even Shaw. This next dude woke up an Engineer like he was a long lost friend. This chick refused to take a few steps sideways. These are supposed to be some of the smartest minds on Earth; scientists and researchers and engineers. The only one who had even an OUNCE of common sense was the black guy (at about 1 hour and 32 minutes into this 2 hour movie), who wanted to leave as soon as he found out what the planet was. And he wasn't even a scientist. Just a regular ship captain.

Most of times "normal" people have their shit together like no expert ever will and simply knows whats best because experts are usually too narrowly pointed towards their goal that they simply ignore everything around that goal. That is one of the reasons why such experts in real life almost never occupy managing, directive or lead roles but do "their part" and thats it.

And in addition to that who picks and prepares a crew like this? None of them didn’t seem to know each other, they didn’t know where they were going and what they were doing. What cooperation on this planet would sit a bunch of untrained randos on a trillion dollar mission without even the slightest preparation. What also bothered me was the way they dressed, they looked like they were on a roadtrip but not in space. Also, why would you EVER take your helmet off in an environment where there’s some substance oozing out of every corner? Maybe the athomsphere is allright but what about diseases and shit like that? Movie was barely watchable imo.

They sent him(Jesus) back to earth in hopes he could change the already destructive tendencies of the human race. Finding out that the humans instead crucified him is what set the engineers to go ahead and wipe out all of the humans(failed experiment)

My opinion on why the engineer tried to kill David is because he saw that is humans were making the same mistake they did by seeing that Weyland created an android in his own image just as the engineers were attempting to create a being in their own image. Except the engineer knows the consequences on that attempt which is the creation of something that will be their ultimate demise. Which is what us creating A.I. and an android is. It's an endless cycle and only ends in extinction.

I don't think that's the true reason. He was also not mad, because they woke him up, as some people said. In fact, he maybe might even have been thankful, because they helped him with completing his mission. Also he was curious what the creature is, that mankind did make. When he saw that he could easily kill them, he just got rid of the intruders that might threaten his mission. This theory is somewhat supported by the deleted/alternative scenes on the blu-ray

brilliant people? Where did you get the idea that this ship was crewed by 'Brilliant People'? Do the brilliant people sign up for a mission where the job description is " you'll get paid a lot to be gone for over 4 years, and you won't be told anything until just before you land at your destination" ? I think the _Best of the Best_ have other options, and only those without better offers will chose an 'ask no questions' mission. As for Shaw and Holloway, they're not brilliant either, they're irrational fanatics.
@6ixlxrd
@6ixlxrd 4 жыл бұрын
@@jimbobeire Doesn't matter what they signed up for or even why: these people were scientists, researchers, and engineers who specialized in particular fields. The first two blatant idiots of the film were an exobiologist and a geologist (fields that undoubtedly require degrees): the geologist literally mapped the terrain using his drones and wore a device that told him his exact position while the storm was going on, yet somehow he got lost BEFORE the storm. The exobiologist (I'm assuming the study of life in space) didn't recognize when that vagina-snake was making an OBVIOUS threat posture and continued trying to pet it. You don't even need a degree to recognize threat postures: the only requirement for that is common sense. You also don't need a degree to know how to take a few steps sideways to avoid death. They're supposed to be brilliant people yet don't even act like humans. And if you still want to deny they're brilliant when they clearly have the backgrounds, then explain to me why the crew in Covenant were worse? They explicitly stated they had colonization training and knew all the procedures; they were also brilliant scientists and researchers in charge of *thousands* of lives. Right off the bat they start making ridiculously stupid decisions.

I cant say I enjoy prometheus as much as some people do, but at least, I respect riddley scott for expanding the universe, making a movie about life and creation, and for having the balls not to include a xenomorph in an Alien prequel. However, unfortunately, riddley made a terrible mistake when creating the neomorph just to please the fans in Alien covenant. By doing that, he made a film that doesnt know where its focus should be, and doesnt understand the story. Of course there are more problems in Alien covenant, but the way I see it, that was his first mistake. It should have been just "covenant".

Ridley Scott is a paid intelligence operative who stole the research of a REAL STAR MAP discoverer that will blow your mind. Read on: Ok. The real tragedy here is that the Movie Prometheus 2012 (the first 20 minutes) was based on GENUINE work of a researcher who the Elite want no one to discover. He is an archaoastronomer, historian and expert in decoding ancient texts, glyphs and scrolls as well as megalithic sites around the globe. He really has discovered real STAR MAPS as depicted in the opening of the movie. He got no credit and the work was fictionalized so no one ever finds it or believes it. All the rest about evil aliens and black goo is complete BS-a psy-op so we never discover our mind blowing TRUE HISTORY. It's a shitty movie (the one that followed was even worse). Ridley Scott consistently plants the seeds of fascinating worlds but always falls short of intelligently expanding on them. There are holes everywhere and geeks plug those holes with all sorts of speculations and believe Scott know where he is going but he does not. 2089+: An era where you can spend one trillion dollars but can't find any competent professional to man your epic expedition. "This is a scientific expedition, no weapons." Are you a freaking moron or what? These Aliens movies are basically teen horror flicks set in space. About life and creation? There was no original or new idea presented; just a variation of the same idea seen elsewhere.

I think Weyland told David to test the black goo on somebody. So David picked the one he felt resentment towards.

Prometheus is one of the few movies that when you say "you just didn't get it", it's actually true. I initially disliked the film walking out of the theatre, but something was nagging me to learn more about it. Soon to follow, I was absolutely enamored with this masterwork of sci-fi cinema. The deepest of themes populate the runtime, philosophical pondering, the meaning of life, the embodiment of death, the origins of man, religion and gods, science and faith, and so much more. One of the most underrated films of all time. I hope Covenant doesn't stray too far from the narrative threads in Prometheus, but enough so that Ridley can entertain the plebs and have the film make enough money to continue the saga.

And before I get a bunch of hate, I'm not saying the film is perfect, I understand most people's problems with the film. But I can look past them, and enjoy it. Just don't watch it with someone who has a short attention span.

Didn't answer the question I came in here to find an answer for ... .i.e. Why did Sy-Fy censor out the Scene where the Idris Elbas character asks Vickers " Are you a Robot " and she Responds " My Cabin - 10 minutes " ?? Was it because of the Bi-Racial Innuendo that Southern psuedo Christians found Offensive ? But they left IN all the disgusting "Huge Penis- in-the mouth " scenes ? Which I find Revolting

The Prometheus story line parallels the story of the Anunaki. It's quite clear. What isn't clear is why the Anunaki (if they're real) just left us be; or did they? Anyways. If the Anunaki parallel has been brought up here or elsewher; I haven't seen it.

I loved this movie even with all those plot holes. Yeah that was weird that we didn't really get proper answers why David did those things to Shaw and Holloway. Weyland told him to do it probably.

My thoughts are that the "engineer at the beginning wasn't there to seed earth but was sent there to die the goo he drank was supposed to destroy all his DNA but one strand survived in the water and we were a mistake

My thoughts about the engineer at the beginning is that he is well aware of the mission to destroy humanity and he is fully against that. He is kinda like David and he is the only one who can wake up other engineers from hyper sleep. He drank the goo to destroy himself so that the mission will remain paused.

What if when the engineers were making humans, they made one on thier planet to study it up close. The human then accidentally gets into contact with the black goo and makes a zenomorph creature. It then begins to kill everything and that’s why they were running. This would have caused the engineers to see humans as dangerous if they get into contact with the goo and must kill them to insure safety. This is my theory and what I believe to be the reason.
