Good German Stihl Saws! Since 1926 when Andreas Stihl began his work in Stuttgart. The central is still near Stuttgart in Waiblingen. Thats some 60 or 70 kilometers from here. Good to see You´re fine, greetings from the deep south of Germany, greetings from Ulm to Strasburgh.

I like where you are going with this, as switching layouts are my favorite type of layout. And the size is not overwhelming, either. I look forward to seeing you develop it. Cheers from Wisconsin!

Honestly, with time being my limiting factor, ai think this will work out well. If I treat each section as a diorama, I just might get somewhere scenery wise.

Nice looking clean slate you’ve got there for an O scale switching layout. Good choice on going a section at a time. That’s how I’m building, too, and I like having some finished scenes earlier in the process. Plus it provides for quicker switches between activities, keeping things fresh. Looking forward to more this winter!

Cool! You worked on the CSX. I worked on the UP in Arkansas. I survived the head on train crash in Hoxie, AR in 2014. I got 10 years on the railroad before I was injured. Retired 25 years sooner than I thought I would. My engineer saved my life. He pulled me out of our locomotive.

That looks great. Your support brackets look great. I've got a large shelf layout, its mostly 2' wide using 2'x4' birch plywood but in a few places about 1' wide using pine boards. I initially used large metal shelf brackets from Lowes, but ended up switching to U shaped brackets made from 2x4s that I screwed together and bolted to the studs in the wall. Its held up for over a decade without any issues so far. The best thing about a shelf layout is that you can store things under it, I use these 10 drawer plastic storage carts that you can get off amazon, great for OO/HO stock.

I've started and restarted in the back of the shop several times with different scales and themes - all have stopped due to work and space, but I think this will help being supported up high as opposed to the carts I took from the old display layout and like you mention (space under the layout).

That’s how I started. 12 foot by 17 inch in the hallway Then added the second deck underneath. Than built the M shaped section in the layout room. It’s currently 60% completed, just need to do the doorway drop in sections, the third level which will be the entire hallway length and layout room, the modular helix to connect the three, and both my 8 foot stagings on both ends of the yard. This is my dream layout. Looking forward to your progress and update videos you’ve gained a sub!

How wide is the left end wall from the back wall to the hallway?
@tracksidescenery
@tracksidescenery 2 жыл бұрын
I know what you're thinking! (I think). That far left wall will technically be clear after I get that stuff out of there, however a long bridge would have to be 10 or 12 feet and block her workout room. If I had my way, I'd to a complete around the walls.

@@tracksidescenery should not take any more…..Just long sweeping arcs in the same space, maybe create basic scenic features as reasons, a rock outcrop, a gully, but you can do all that in the same space. I guarantee your span will a) look even longer and b) trains will look better slinking along.
