I had one- hated it. You can’t even clean the “ceiling” of the thing without breaking your neck or knees. It was just awkward. It was a Bosch and looked good on paper, but I wouldn’t have another.

I've used countertop microwaves for most of my life. I rented a room for a few years in a home that had an over the range model. It was horrible. I would prefer to use a countertop in the future, but if for some reason I was confined to a wheelchair then I would definitely want an undercounter microwave drawer.

What is required for the heat to escape for a microwave drawer that’s installed in an island? Are there issues with these overheating?

There is a spot for a microwave in between our above counter cabinets. But they aren't very deep so we have to use a baby microwave (Black & Decker $70) so it doesn't stick out. I use it every morning to heat up water to make my cup of coffee in an Aeropress. I also use our microwave to reheat my coffee when I don't drink it fast enough. Other than that I can't figure out other uses for microwaves that don't turn out better using our toaster oven, Wolf range, or outdoor grill. So I need a reason better than heating coffee to justify buying an expensive microwave.

Several observations. Another big negative or microwave drawers is you lose that extra drawer or cabinet space. When it comes to cabinets, I am a believer of "More Drawers, Less Doors". I do not like the idea of trim kits as many times they are not good with heat dissipation.

I was really excited to find out that Sharps makes a microwave drawer WITH convection. Thank you for that! But, I'm somewhat skeptical about due to the negative reviews. Is there another brand that makes microwave drawers WITH convection?

Still debating this for my next home. I love the idea of a microwave drawer, but think it looks like a real pain to clean it. Would love to hear anybody's thoughts about how hard these are to keep clean. Thanks!

A major consideration is, when the kitchen already has very limited storage and countertop area, is it worth losing space that is already in short supply? OTR is the only logical solution.

Why can't you just have the same microwave but not over the range? Why is over the range and under the counter the only two options? I'm not talking about trim kits for countertop units, units designed from the ground up to go in a standard cabinet are pretty common in other countries.
@YaleAppliance1 Жыл бұрын
You can do that...you can hang it from the cabinet as well or build it in.....

@@YaleAppliance1 I figured as much but in 10 years will this hold true. Time will tell. In my kitchen, a modern high end kitchen, the Panasonic sits on the countertop. There is plenty of space and should it die; out with the old and in with the new. Too bad I ditched my old Amana Radar Range years ago. My view also includes built in coffee machines. My wish for counter top microwaves is the return of the drop-down door.

Terrible idea effected no way should ever be bought or used unless has some type of "carrying tray" or vessel to insert what is to be cooked within to keep the mechanical aspects clean I agree with that comment totally and as a separate item for purpose of cleaning hence separate kind of bathtub with handle. Drawer style dishwashers and refrigerator freezer for kitchen island great idea tho...pull out frozen glasses for pouring beer and wine into etc. great idea for activating a true social space which is the point of doing all this have thousands of people over for big time bashes and good times and the like. Long silver strong buy😊

generally hate anything wifi connected for appliances. It’s an unnecessary point for data breach, privacy issues, and problem shooting. The basics of a kitchen appliance is to cook, or mix, or blend, or some such. Ditch the fussy “connected” experiences.
