The US provides 2 options. One is bad, the other one is much worse. We keep enabling the much worse one, which doesn't listen and makes our work much harder, instead of choosing the bad one, which sometimes listens and will make our hard work show tangible results.

This man deserves the largest of audiences. Rarely do you hear current politics and democratic decline explained so on point (and to the point).

Thanks for this insightful interview, I agree with much of the thorough analysis! One caveat: I do not concur with all the damning statements about the general European left (heading from Germany I attest, the only thing our great - albeit badly battered and bruised - Social Democrats and Greens need to heed from now on is to communicate more and better with the populus. After all it is 50% of the job and at the moment it is apparently their main impediment to succeeding, this is spot-on - one cannot state it often enough). Considering the UK: Meeting Meloni was of course not only playing to the "wrong" gallery (a grave mistake many panicked politicians of the Left make when in government - I don't know why 🙄 ) but I understand Starmer as not at all ineffective at weathering several waves of polycrisis in the UK such as, domestically, Brexit, in his Party, Corbyn's inability to deal with and root out Labour's internal antisemitism and c) building something on/and out of the budgetary ruins the Tories left the country with, whilst, at the same time dealing with a monstrously emboldened far-right - just as we all in Europe have to and - with a vengeance (not being able to open up some solid channel of communication, learning to really listen to the people - just as Bernie Sanders did in the US - and foster a bond of trust which acts as a real force against the right's massive desinformation campaigns is THE major problem of all of the left parties right now all over the planet as far as I can see. All they were prepared to do was the other 50% of the job - usually pretty well - alas, nobody knows anything about it or wants to believe it anymore). But otherwise I think what he makes the center of his argument, the lack of conviction, is exactly the point... What good is even a positive, all encompassing and inclusive narrative if you don't believe in it yourself so... all we can do is to start looking for the politicians who are able to do this work and be these people and to amplify the voices who might've not managed to come through so far.

@imperialmotoring3789 in reality the US have developed from the shining city on a hill of my childhood into today's MAGA fascist ochlocracy, true. It's funny to see so many people parrot the same right-wing bs. People who listen to low-lives like Tim Poole, Charlie Kirk or Matt Walsh and think they are scholars for constitutional law while they haven't even had some basic college education.

Nothing original here, just standard talking-points regurgitated; listening to people like this helps one to realize how someone like Trump can come to be elected, one never finds any orginality of fresh reflection form this part of the political landscape, it seems to be brain-dead.

Because you keep calling normal people 'far right' and they despise you for it. And, BTW, that includes normal lefties who get called it for comments like this very one. I am old school leftist. Not woke at all. But because I dare question the craziness, I get labelled far right and fascist. Furthermore, explaining this and pointing this out doesn't seem to help. The left does not want to be accountable.

@junanougues Yeah sure. It means to want everyone to think that you care even if you don't care. Which is why you make everything for your own causes worse. There was no trans issue ten years ago, but now there. Race was almost irrelevant ten years ago (Obama won two terms) but now it is relevant again. Because you don't actually care, you just want people to think you do. You are not good, and you are not interested in being good, you only want people to think you are good. You are the Instagram of morality... all appearance, nothing real.

The US Dem party doesn't support economic equality. They actually support the GOP view of economics, but the Dem accept that racism and sexism, etc. exist. The party wants to improve the lives of select citizens in narrowly defined target groups. As the party shifts to the Right, they talk about white working class rather than _The Working Class_ because its leadership can't think that way.

Improve the material conditions of the working class you mean ? Oh dear me no 😂
