This was very enlightening. I learned much from this discussion. Personally I like lifting heavy weights at age 72. Eating enough protein carbs under 10 grams per day 90% of the time building muscle better than I had imagined I would.

Tried to do one meal a day & I was over stuffing myself (with meat only) which screwed with my blood glucose which screwed with my kidneys. As soon as I began eating smaller meals to match my basal insulin my eGFR went from 52.7 to 61.0. As Dr Bernstein says, over stuffing yourself even with zero carbs will increase your glucose levels. I’ll stick to my 3 to 4 smaller “meals” a day.

It depends on what your choice of protein is. Half a pound of a ground beef( for example) will give you more then 100gr of protein. We are talking about two small (4oz) burgers or one big (8 -10oz). Anyone can do that, in one meal. Or have two smaller meals, 4 hours apart. Some eggs and cheese in one. A 4oz burger in the other. ... with some veggies, instead of bread.

You have also to understand how protien is measured. Analyitically protien is measured by the amount of nitrogen in food. Food manifacturers know this and the manifacturers of vegan ultra processed foods can boost the "protien" with pure chemicals like urea! They are not alone in this most "healthy" nutritional bars are mostly a huge source of Fructose which besideds being a long term posion causes diabetese.

Are you speaking of grams in weight? 900g of animal protein in weight is about 2 pounds of meat which is probably about right for you. Dr. Layman is referring to grams as a unit of measuring energy in food (fat, carbs, and protein macros are assigned units in grams, but that is not a unit of weight). Consuming 900g in macros of protein in a day would be almost impossible and at that high of a level could actually be quite dangerous.

I didn’t want to respond because you obviously do help people. I asked you on another post one time and you said I needed to read and follow the instructions which I did. My question is about your calculator put me at 1104 calories. I tried that for 4 days and I felt horrible, and I actually gained 1 lb. At 49 yrs. I can’t function on that low of calories. Dr. Layman said toward end of video a 70 yr old woman might only need 1400 calories so to me your number of calories for me seems “off.” And I followed the directions. Maria, how many calories do you eat each day? Thanks

I dont understand kilograms etc, I understamd pounds and ounces. Is a daily pint of milk and 4oz of fish, plus 6 slices of wholemeal bread enough protein for an 85 year-old? I dont eat fish every day, sometimes its eggs, beans or cheese, and I take plenty of exercise, mostly running and walking,, but also gardening. I am 6 feet tall, and weigh 12 stone. There's more fat on a greasy chip. I.'m not going to do any fasting or cold plunges, my normal exercise is uncomfortable enough without going out of my way to torture myself. For wight training I carry the shopping 2 miles home from the supermarket..

he measure people, they eat carbs. There is huge metabolic difference , when you are keto or fat burning just. Your muscles have good fat burning, they dont eat themselfs! I am the best example. I go a lot in mountains, i eat more protein then ever, but not a lot, max 100 grams per day. And my muscle are so good and strong, i dont burn my muscle at all! I was 20, 30 years old, i ate not so much protein but carbs, i did a lot of fitness, my muscle loss was huge. I was slim, but now i see, how much muscle loss i had. The same is when you fat addapted, you will not burn your muscle in fasted state. Because oxidase priotitase is fat before proteins, right?

Most Indians are actually vegetarian not vegan. The problem with being vegan is the excessive free oil consumption. It’s also a problem with vegetarian diets currently. I would also question the need to eat meat itself particularly in the quantities people seem to enjoy. Intermittent fasting and eating a starch based diet does seem to get people back to health. Perhaps maintaining that health is different.

Anyone who transitions from the Standard American Diet to a whole food based approach is going to see improvement. We certainly won't argue that. But, the proof is in the pudding (my hard boiled egg pudding--haha see what I did there? 🤪). Animal based, especially beef, is by far the most nutrient dense and bioavailable food for human consumption, which is why we are seeing so many clients thrive on our approach.
