I am truly touched when you guys say you are going to document the war🥺 I love Prozzie's calm tone and Alan's on-point questions. I appreciate this video. Amazing ✨
Very wise conversation and demonstrated the different mindsets between democracy and totalitarianism. I really appreciate you guys. Some Taiwanese also need to know what we’re facing.
Politically, Taiwan is not a de jure government, neither is it recognised by the 181 member states in the UN. Actually, frankly speaking, the majority of the mindset that “Taiwanese” people have is that they trust the US. That will be a fatal mistake.
Enjoy and learn a lot from this conversation, thank you Prozzie and Allan, for the interview and also for standing with Taiwan. Thanks a lot!

Great discussion. Really interesting to watch because I'm used to Chinese people flipping out on this topic, and Miss Zou was very chill. I think the reason they get so upset is because they're force-fed this idea that "Taiwan is China" from a VERY young age; so when they're confronted with a different opinion it upsets some deeply rooted ideals.

Thanks everyone for the comments! I hope everyone learned something. I have a lot respect for Miss.Zou for being in the video and expressing things to an audience that is mostly Taiwanese, or at the very least will disagree with her. This video is not intended to be an opportunity to attack her personally. Although her and I don't share the same political beliefs, we are still friends, and she is very close to me, and so I hope we can make her feel like it's ok to have these discussions in front of a large audience without fear of people being awful.
Her idea of agreeing China to "take back" Taiwan with force was AWFUL. She doesn't think that her sibling is going to the war but she still think the war as a "choice". Don't tell me something like "You can't balme them because that's how they were taught", I have friends who can think totally opposite to her and they are now living IN CHINA.

At 10':53, when Prozzie said " I think you've been told me years ago that it is not China don't want to invate Taiwan but it is because that China is so nice, and so kind that they allow Taiwan to have their own system......to be a good mother (China 自比為台灣的母親?)" I noticed that Allen show his funny smile face.....ha ha !! When I was a high-school boy, I strongly feel that we "OWN" the whole mainland China, but now....I will rather say that Taiwan is nothing to do with China. Taiwan is simply "Taiwanese Taiwan" and we will fight (at lease "I" will) back whatever it might cost if China try to invate Taiwan.

yeah. And most Taiwanese has nothing to do with China to begin with.

A few facts to point out: 1. Taiwan, officially known as Republic of China was established in 1912, while PRC was established in 1949. How can the "son" be older than the mother? 2. China claims Taiwan was always part of China, hence PRC needs to take it back. But Taiwan was rule by Spanish, Portugals, Dutch, Japanese and then KMT. The heritage and culture of Taiwan is very much mixed. 3. Taiwan was never ruled by PRC, or CCP. Not for even one day. 4. Australia, NZ, USA, Canada (partially) were all ruled by British at one stage. That doesn't mean they are part of UK. The culture and heritage are independent from the sovereignty of a country. 5. The land that was part of China ruled by CCP, was annexed by Russia/USSR. The size of the land was many times larger than Taiwan, and yet CCP never ask Russia for unification of these lost lands. All these facts, are something Chinese people aren't aware of, or never bother to think critically about. Anyone who think critically and rationally, should easily draw the conclusion that there is no reason why Taiwan should be part of China.

@PeterLiuIsBeast Жыл бұрын
I think you need to actually understand how each side approaches the problem. 1. Officially the PRC claims to succeed the ROC as the only China in the world. Thus any lands allocated to China (like those relinquished after WW2) are all claimed to be the PRC. 2. The stance of the KMT party has always been that the only China that exists is the ROC. Thus in 1992 the ROC and PRC agreed that there is 1 China but each call themselves the true ruler. 3. The PRC had good relations with the USSR until Khrushchev (which led to a border skirmish on the Amur). Thus Mongolia was accepted as independent and Vladivostok as Soviet territory. But who claimed all of the Qing territory as the true China until the recent decades? The KMT government did (especially under the rule of Chiang). In Chinese history the concept of China is different from the modern concept of a country. The term 皇帝 Emperor was the ruler above the 王 Kings. Thus following tradition there can only be one Emperor. Thus like in the 3 Kingdoms period, each of Wei, Shu and Wu all claimed the title of Emperor and regarded the other two as usurpers to the throne. All three were China. Just like later in the Northern and Southern dynasties, both north and south considered themselves the real ruler of all China.

you are missing the point. the point is chinese people see it as their land, they are not supporting CPC on this, they are supporting their own rights. if ROC has the power to keep China stable, they will support it, but the point is ROC is being eaten alive by Taiwanese seperatism, that is unacceptable to chinese. and why Taiwan is China territory is because Taiwan until today has not declare independence. all the example you given had declared independence. Taiwan still celebrate 10 10 as it national day. 10 10 is the declaration make by present day Wuhan City. I am not arguing Taiwan cannot beomce a country, if Okinawa want to become a country it could too. but they have to first declare their independence in a document that establish their founding. as to can Taiwan and Okinwawa survives the forces of China and Japan, that is another matter. and if you argue Taiwan is just ROC and ROC is seperate from PRC, that's fine too, but PRC and ROC are at war, there has been no peace treaty signed between the 2 sides, so they are already at war. the entire reason why Taiwan is trying to make an argument it is not ROC is to avoid the civil war. but if it is not ROC, and it has not declare a new state, Taiwan is currently stateless, so that argument is problematic as well. trust that the Taiwan politician has given way way more thought then you did. there is a reason why they are not pursuitng any of those options.
@yujunglin1122 Жыл бұрын
@@PeterLiuIsBeast For your first point, the term "succeed" means somebody gives up their whole rights and vanishs so that you succeed them. For example, ROC succeeds the dynasty, and became the only representative of China. However, PRC doesn't succeed ROC since its existence in Taiwan. Both PRC & ROC constitution claim the China identity This means there are actually two China around the world. And most countries follow "ONE CHINA POLICY", either ROC or PRC, which the latter one is the major option.

The Chinese don't even kniw the true history behind Taiwan and China. When the Japanese attacked China, the communists ran and hid while the ROC decided not to be cowards and fight the Japanese. After the war, the ROC was depleted and that's when the communists came out of hiding and forced the ROC to leave for Taiwan.

Hey Prozzie and Allan - Just watched this and found it really refreshing. Your tact and ability to accommodate a difference of opinion are key ingredients that have always been missing from politics. I was learning from this myself - not to get so emotional when talking about these type issues that mean a lot tome. I really enjoyed this mature and balanced conversation. I love Taiwan like you do. I think the pro-China support that we saw in this recent election comes from a place of choosing peace over looming war more than from a place of patriotism to China. Miss Zou is very much an example of the type of Chinese I meet here outside of Taiwan. Often you know each other for years, become good friends. And then one day, as if they received a command through the invisible antenna on their head, they look at you coldly and say things like: "My country owns you" "Come back to mother land" "My party will send the PLN and your family on the island of Taiwan will not last an hour" "By reunifying with China, you will bring ALL us Chinese pride." I cannot accept that this "friendly" person who claims they want nothing to do with war, politics and negative thoughts, underneath all that was actually thinking to wipe my family off the land that we live on. I hope Miss Zou can see where the flaws are in this logic. Please do not EVER say that to another Taiwanese person you meet. You wouldn't say that to Canadians. "Canada is such a peaceful country!" - so is Taiwan, we've never wage war against China. Unless China is somehow afraid?

Love this type of content! I love the question you guys come up with. Its incrediblily difficult to find a Chinese person would talk about Taiwan openly and calmly. I have lots of Chinese friends and I had been looking for content about how to convince to a Chinese to accept the idea of Taiwan independence. For most of them have been living in the states for 20+ years, its still almost impossible to help them turn against the CCP and support Taiwan. ❤ Thanks!
In grade school in Canada, in federal schools (as the child of a soldier), I didn't know there was an issue. Taiwan was treated as another nation like any other but the common heritage was taught in the same way as France was mentioned when discussing the province of Quebec in Canada or Britain was mentioned when discussing Australia, for example.
@lagrangewei Жыл бұрын
issue is there is no nation call Taiwan. Taiwan under it own constitution call Taiwan a province, the government control territory outside of Taiwan including in the mainland.
It was really touching when you discussed war as one of the tools to resolve the issue of independence between Taiwan and China, as it made me consider the potential impact on my family 😢. Thank you for creating this video and sharing your perspective.
Thank you both so much for saying that you would stay in and voice for Taiwan even during war times. Very much appreciated. Also thank you for this interesting discussion. I simply hope that more Chinese people can be as open minded as your friend, Zuo and not to be brainwashed by their government. Meanwhile, I would suggest that you and Miss Zuo can look into this topic from historical perspectives. KMT, which established Republic of China, actually ruled Mainland China before they retreated to Taiwan in 1949. Ever since that, PRC never put their foot on Taiwan, not even once! We have our own currency, democracy and most importantly, our freedom. This island is never a part of China. 😁😁
