Boy, when I was in college and was just really getting into X-Men, everyone RAVED about Pryde of the X-Men. It would come up every time people were talking about the animated series. Everyone thought it was the best thing ever--I recall one guy disliking the regular series because he was hoping it'd be a continuation of Pryde and he never got over that disappointment. So, I got the VHS tape and ... the animation was fantastic and it was cool hearing Michael Bell and Frank Welker, but ... There was stuff I disliked too. Wolverine's accent really bugged me and Storm's childish "Imma put a storm cloud over yer head LOL" moment just made me go, "... really?". I honestly don't remember much else. Like you said, it was just okay--it had its good and bad points. Yah, there wasn't much point to this comment other then "Hey, I remember this" =P

But in the so called Telepathy realm, she could do that anyways, oO I don't know much of anything to do with any form of Glass or Ice Shards or whatever as a form of Encasing her into a Mold of Egg or Hardened Substance... But I believe people call it her Diamond Form? No? I until Wolverine the movie came out, had never even heard of that before, & thought it made her a weak character, & felt she was much better portayed in Pryde Of The X-Men then any other media, oO
@LupineShadowOmega3 жыл бұрын
@@KenyoMurabu Man what are you talking about? Emma's diamond form was a secondary mutation she developed after Cassandra Nova experimented on her. And likewise it was always a sort of interesting power, because while it makes her relatively invulnerable physically, but what it doesn't do is make her much stronger physically while also coming at the expense of shutting down both her telepathy and her emotions. Considering how massively powerful she is, diamond form tends to be something she does when she literally just needs to not deal with whatever it is or needs a unbreakable psychic defense against inhuman or possession foes. And it doesn't encase anything, all of her body's tissues change into a crystalline structure. She becomes a literal human shaped diamond.

Re: Rick Hoberg's anecdote - Interesting how Crocodile Dundee mania influenced Wolverine's accent when Australian Wolverine first appeared in the Sept 25, 1982 episode of Spidey and his Amazing Friends and Crocodile Dundee didn't hit the theaters until 1986.

What I see as probably more likely in the late 80's during production of Pryde is ,"Hey, we've already used this Australian Wolverine twice on Spidey a couple of years ago, let's keep him, and what with Crocodile Dundee being a hit, we might be able to surf the Aussie-mania."

16:35 "The X-Men are stand-ins for oppressed groups in the world!" Yeah, not really though. The X-Men was a way for Stan Lee to introduce a whole world full of superheroes and supervillains without having to come up with as many backstories/excuses for the existence of their super-powers. The bigotry allegory (they later decided this story was) has always been sort of as square peg forced into a round hole. "Oppressed groups" (as broad and all-encompassing as that description is) don't have magical sci-fi powers. Nobody does. People from said groups may have been attracted to the X-Men over the years based on the ham-fisted parallels and wish-fulfillment fantasies. But disliking people based on their differing characteristics doesn't really compare to fearing people who could kill you, maim you, or wipe out your mind just by looking at you. Would you really be comfortable sitting next to somebody who could turn any random item into a bomb (voluntarily or sometimes involuntarily) just by touching it? What if it was your kid sitting next to him? Would the disarming Cajun accent be enough assuage any concerns you might have in such a situation, IRL? Would those concerns make you a bigot? What if it was just a regular guy who brought a shitload of live grenades with him everywhere he went? Bigotry is irrational, by definition. Fearing someone with that kind of power, and what they might do if they lost control (or just lost their temper) would be _quite_ rational. In fact, it would be irrational to _not_ be highly concerned about such things.

I actually remembered when this actually aired on television. The animation and artwork was the best I've seen for. The smooth frame rate was refreshing as well as coloring, shading, and rendering. I very much enjoyed the pilot and wished it had gone into production back then, but had it had done so I am sure the quality of the episodes would not even come close to the grandeur of the pilot. Still, maybe it was for the best that it didn't go into production as we got an even better version in the 90's via FoxKids. Awesome episode.

You know, If Xavier can actually read Magneto's mind(since apparently the helmet does nothing in this version) couldn't he also just telepathically force Magneto to not want to destroy the world and turn himself in?

When I saw this episode for the first time, in my early teens, I was a fan of X-men: Evolution and well familiar with Nightcrawler's insecurities about his looks in that continuity, and I think I considered Kitty wrongful in her reaction towards him, but when I saw it again when I got older I reacted to how creepily he was acting. He just kept invading her personal space and kissing her hand without permission even AFTER she had made it quite clear that she didn't like it!

It's rare to hear of Dazzler outside of the comics, even in a quick cameo. One good thing that may have come out of this series if it was made would be the introduction of some lesser known characters to people who don't read the comics. I'm always appreciative when other forms of media does that. It provides a more rounded and connected community.
@TwilightRogue158 жыл бұрын
Eamonn Deane Indeed. The animated series also gave Victor his most oft used backstory (which is the best, in my opinion), showing how other media on comic characters can influence the comics, as well.
@TwilightRogue158 жыл бұрын
Eamonn Deane Absolutely. I'm fine with coming up with something original, as well, but don't create a plotline that directly spits in the face of the previous. Fans tend not to enjoy that. I understand that they were attempting to 'evolve' the narrative by taking elements of the previous and adding onto it. That is, of course, perfectly fine. But, a good rule of thumb to follow when attempting this is 'does this build our understanding of the character?' In this case, the answer was 'no'. What we got instead was a very significant alteration of an otherwise established lore that worked towards the narrative (of the Court of Owls) rather than the character. If they added the bit about his mother and having Nora as the second 'offense' of this nature, I can see that working. I'm also certainly not against someone tempting him with use of his research to help others after he believed it all to be lost to all but him as a way to motivate him towards a new plan. Conversely, they could have just started fresh. We may or may not have liked the backstory, but rewrites are better than an unrealistic change in character or motivation for a character (in my opinion). Fries went from sympathetic to greatly despised for me, and that should not happen unless there's a very good reason for it. What are your thoughts on the matter?

Intrestingly the idea of both nightcrawler and kitty being both teenagers was done in x men evolution. There also was some romatic hints early on in the series. Though later nightcrawler had amada as his love intrest and kitty had avalanch as her love intrest.

I actually heard that the voice actor for Wolverine, (I believe his name is Neil Ross,) was read the Spider-Man script and misread a line, mistaking Wolverine for an Aussie. The VO director apparently just went with it.
@knight2976able8 жыл бұрын
linkara you was right here is what Wikipedia said "I ended up being the voice director on the show, and I was forced to use the Australian version of Wolverine (which coincidentally, foreshadowed the casting of Australian actor Hugh Jackman in the live-action X-Men film), because all of this Australian stuff was popular at the time - the Mad Max films, "Crocodile" Dundee, and so on - it was going to turn out (in the comics) that Wolverine was an expatriated Australian. The direction of the character however never got beyond the plotting stages and Wolverine remained Canadian in the comics"

I think the truly funniest thing is about turning Canadian Wolverine to Australian Wolverine is that years later, in X-Men: Evolution, Wolverine would be voiced by Scott McNeil, a Canadian voice actor who was actually born, and spent the first few years of his life in Australia.

I think this was my first introduction to the X-Men. I think I saw it on TV once in the 90s. I love this animation and would have loved a series with this art. I always liked this design for Dazzler. The short hair works on her and I dig the jacket. Also funny that Marvel was pushing for Aussie Wolverine and then Hugh Jackman (an Aussie) plays him. This TV movie is a classic to me and will never get old.
