Love this game, gave my ps4 HD Remaster to a friend cus he never played it before..... and he changed Tidus' name to "fkboy"... Piss me off seeing people play old game with disrespect. If they played it when it first came out , it is fkn gold. Story was perfect, great iconic characters, music, everything. Nowadays stupid kids like my friend cant enjoy such gold. FFX is a masterpiece considering it ran on the ps2 with few games that looking that good.

When i got my ps2 as a kid my mom bought it for me and my stupid 10year old self wanted some dumb shooters, gta etc. and i wasn't allowed to have those. I was pissed when i got it and said they should give it back, but after i tried it i loved this game so much and still do to this day. I just thanked her from the bottom of my heart for this game. I played this on 2002 which is 17 years ago and I kept a slot in my memory card just for this scene. I only realized now that on 7:50 onwards, the second kiss showed that this time, it was Yuna who wanted it. The way she wrapped her arms around Tidus' neck and leaned forward signifies how she enjoyed the kiss so much that she wanted it a second time.

I was 18, alone and working a crappy job at the time. Pretty much all I did was work and sleep. The few hours a night I had to myself I would spend playing this game. I remember realizing how attached I had grown to the characters during this scene. Not gonna say I cried but my allergies sure were acting up that night! I'm still a big fan of the final fantasy series but this one will always be my favorite. Particularly this scene.

People throw around the phrase "strong female protagonist" having the nerve to use that phrase to refer to Terra from FFVI (which, ugh...no), but Yuna is the real deal. She has such agency, she really truly is strong in the ways that count, she just isn't loud about it, it's in her actions, not loud words and bravado. She has such a strong sense of purpose, to the point of being willing to die for it. It's a quiet, gentle strength, what real strength looks like.

I think what struck me with this scene, and probably a lot of people that were my age at the release of the game (aka, start of puberty), is the explosion of feelings coming from my own heart. There is such a build up to this moment of "ahh, I finally kissed her". And I think anybody who kissed their crush for the first time can imagine how those felt :)

There is a lot to this scene that I feel like is lost on people. In the leadup to the FMV, Tidus and Yuna havent had a chance to speak to each other since escaping Macalania Temple after killing Seymour the first time, so a lot has happened since then Tidus has since learned the truth about the summoner's pilgrimage, and is basically up to speed on how Spira works, and has been feeling massive guilt for talking about a time after her pilgrimage. He has also come to terms with his feelings for her, Seymour having clearly brought that into focus with his attempt to marry her. Yuna on the other hand has since been betrayed by her religion, and is in the middle of a huge crisis of faith. Everything she believed was torn down right in front of her. Her attempt to do what was right in the name of Yevon was met with a death sentence from the high court of Yevon. She is at her breaking point. After Tidus' heartfelt apology, they indulge in this fantasy, this idea of quitting the pilgrimage and just going to Tidus' Zanarkand It's this scene that makes me think Yuna doesn't actually believe Tidus' Zanarkand is real, and that she only pretends to believe in it to make Tidus feel better. It's kind of her thing to smile when people are sad, and as Kimhari tells us in Mushroom Rock, the sadder people are, the harder Yuna tries. The thing that makes me think this is she breaks down while he is describing his Zanarkand to her. She knows she can't go there. She knows she can't escape from what she believes is her fate. She can't pretend anymore. One of the selling points for this game on the back of the original case was the detailed facial expressions, and Yuna is the picture for that caption. Her character is expressed so much through facial expressions and reactions, you really have to pay attention to understand her. Most of what you learn about Yuna is from other people telling you what to look for. Auron tells you she is easy to read, serious to a fault, and doesn't ask for help. Kimhari tells you about her tendency to cheer people up. She herself even teaches Tidus how to smile when he is sad, which is really showing her hand. All of her humanizing scenes like this happen around Tidus. Around everyone else she is "Lady Summoner". But Tidus is just Jecht's kid. She knows he has experienced the same loss that she has. In her mind, they are equals. And she is more willing to open up around him. After the FMV, the way she talks to him feels so unguarded, so vulnerable, possibly for the first time in the entire game. People love to trash this game's voice acting but honestly Tidus and Yuna's voice actors absolutely sell this scene perfectly. One of the things Golden Age Squaresoft did better than anybody were these sorts of scenes. Other RPG romantic plots just feel so corny and cringy, but a lot of the dialog here just feels so natural, it flows so well, and this was the pinnacle of that era, the Zenith. Even when I watched this scene as an un-empathetic teenager 20 years ago, and didn't process a fraction of the context of it all, I felt that it was important. Watching it now as an adult, I feel like I understand it so much more and like it even more. It's a beautiful scene in a lot of ways.

I feel exactly like Yuna feels going through this crisis of faith. Jehovah's Witnesses have been in my head for so long, my entire childhood. My mom thinks because they're not the catholic church, they're better. The view on contraception is different, and I've been told so many times the world is ending so I can't have kids. 😒 Seeing this, I felt sad, like I'm having to go through this on my own. Jesus understands though, and I know if I pray for it, he'll give me my Tidus. Still, I feel weird going to church, like I've betrayed everyone at the Kingdom Hall (Jehovah's Witnesses church). Even though I know what I did was good for me, I falter. 😢 My clothing has changed, and I use Yuna for inspiration. Sometimes I doubt God exists, since after all, you can't see him. Yet the Bible says "God is love" and it's my intrinsic love for people that gets me through my darkest days.

Love the response, but I saw Yuna's tears a bit differently. I truly do think she believed that Tidus's Zanarkand existed. After all, she grew up listening to stories from Jecht about it. She also had an understanding of how the world truly worked more than she EVER let on. "You won't disappear.... will you?" She pieced it all together herself over time. No, her tears came from her solid-steel resolve. For the very first time, at least from what we see, she was tempted to give it all up, and do something that she truly wanted to do, fighting through her tears as she did it. Her love for the world, her friends, and now Tidus, were reason enough to sacrifice herself for the greater good, not for the sake of Yevon. She is so committed to defeating Sin, that nothing would ever shake it. That same resolve convinced Kelk Ronso to let her pass through Gagazet. It's not that she can't escape her fate. That makes it sound deterministic. She is *choosing* to press forward with her pilgrimage, Yevon be damned. Her will is so unbreakable that even seeing a great city that she equates to a real-life fairy tale fades into the background. Having Tidus there with her regardless makes that choice a bit easier, though. By extension, that's what makes her choice in front of Yunalesca all that much more poignant too. ****Spoilers**** FF16 has a similar moment where the two leads confess their love to each other, and promise to be there for each other. It was done really well, but the kiss in Macalania has layers of depth that 16's moment can't reach. The visual art and Suteki Da Ne put it well over the top. It's magical, iconic, and unforgettable.

@@timvantress5654 FF16 unfortunately didn’t deliver for me, not just for the lame kiss scene and the overall lackluster relationship between Jill and Clive; the game felt chaotic, the pacing of the story was all over the place and the characters felt shallow and unremarkable. Sometimes I felt like there were conflicts in the game direction, there were scenes with actual good writing that builds on the characters personalities immediately followed by three more dialogues where they say the same shit all over again (like how they felt the need to remember us every 30 minutes that they’re trying to build a world where people live and die on their own terms) I’m sorry for the rant and I’m happy for whoever enjoyed FF16, I just had very high expectations for the game, when it came all crushing down I felt the need to vent my frustration somewhere.

this scene is so damn romantic, in that classic and majestic sense that fits very well with a fantasy game like this, everything feels magical and ethereal. I love that the second time they kiss, it's Yuna who initiates it and how they caressed each other's face before that ahhhh my heart. The game gets you so invested in these two because you also see them at their most goofy and genuine selves when they talk to each other, they feel like real teenagers in that regard who fell in love naturally, so this moment was the big release of emotions for both of them

Agree, the build before this scene was evident but not excesive, and this scene has at least 3 pivotal moments before the actual kiss, the majority of games in moments like these just would resolve in an arguing and then some confession and the kiss, or the route of tidus comforting her and a pure kiss, this was a moment of crisis for them (specially yuna) they feel doubts, fear, desperation, sadness, excitement, joy, love, all in a couple of minutes

Bro this game released on 2001 yet they’re so ahead of time . the plot ,the storyline , the mechanic , cutscene , the puzzle in trials and small details like when ifrit using hellfire the ground changes based on where we at. Truly masterpiece and im grateful they did a remake of it .

I consider myself a pretty strong guy. Not much rattles me and I'm usually well composed at all times. I've played hundreds of games in my life, and many Final Fantasy games dating back to the original NES. This scene.....it really got to me. The surge of emotions and the build up to it. I teared up when she says "I can't....I just can't" Then when Tidus tries to comfort her and the kiss..... I cried like a baby and had to pause the game to re-focus. The woman I was dating at the time watched me play and was equally teary eyed, but smiled at me, asking if I was ok. I'm proud to say I married her about a year after that. I would walk through the fires of hell just to see her smile. May sound corny, but every time I play this part, I still get teary eyed. The ONLY other game to do that was the ending of Red Dead Redemption 2.

When I first played this game I was probably around 8/9 years old. When I say play, it was more so sitting beside my older brother and watching him make progress and get through the bosses and hard parts that I could not handle. At the time, we played many video games, but this game was different. I can remember watching the cut scenes and being absolutely mesmerized by the graphics. The story, the characters. I can remember not being able to defeat one of the bosses and eventually not playing the game anymore. I am now in my mid 20’s replaying this game , being able to understand the strategy, the magic, etc etc. It has been an incredible flash of nostalgia, and also a joy to be able to discover parts of the game I never saw. In particular, this scene is one of the star moments of the whole game, and I must say it is one of the most beautiful moments in tv/movie/ video game history that I can think of. They really went all out when developing this game , and although it is just a video game/ fictional story I think it can teach all of us so many things about love, bravery, belief, struggles- you name it. The story just about includes every type of emotion. It is a pleasure to re-play it after all these years.

How could Tiuds and Yuna (or any of them for that matter) return to a normal life? They’re all fugitives on the run. And even if Tidus did find a way back to Zanarkand, they’d be nothing left of it, as Sin had already destroyed it. The time for them living a normal life has already come and gone!

beng1603 I think in that moment, they were both dreaming of things that could never be. That lake was a brief respite from their weary travels and harsh realities. Who wouldn't envision a future that doesn't involve the one you love sacrificing herself for the good of her people? One where you can both run away to a land that never sleeps, far from responsibility and the pain your every day life brings. They both knew none of those plans could ever happen. That's why Yuna was crying. Sometimes all you can do is give yourself is a moment to dream of things that can never be.

@Loven Tidus Well this comment is obviously late, but Tidus is not from 1000 years in the past. He is nothing more than a dream, and the Zanarkand he is from is also a dream. These dreams are based on the memories of the Fayth, who became Fayth in an effort to keep the memory of Zanarkand alive after Bevelle destroyed it and killed nearly everyone. So yeah the dream Zanarkand is based on the Zanarkand from 1000 years in the past, but it is not real. It is only a dream. The cutscenses in the game explain all of this of course, but I know I myself zoned out on a few of them my first playthrough, and I didn't have a complete understanding until after the third or fourth time playing the game so I suppose it's easy to miss. Anyway I just wanted to clear that up.
