That's what a slim does. It is just a mid gen refresh. The same console in a new skin. The mid gen upgrade comes later with the PS5 Pro. Most consumers will not want to pay extra for an elite model so they won't even bother waiting. They will just buy the new PS5 'slim' and ride the hype train.

Price increase is not surprising actually. They already increased prices for the PS5 in almost all of the other regions around the world. This is their way of increasing the price for the US. Whether you choose the disc or digital version of this slimmer model, the price has increased. For the full PS5 experience (with disc drive and standing it vertically as advertised), it’s either going to be $530 for the disc version with the separate vertical stand or $560 for the digital version with the separate disc drive and vertical stand. Either way, the price will officially be going up.

So basically, the only real difference the PS5 Pro will have, is 8K & upgraded Ray Tracing capability? No other additional features that anyone knows of that will make it a more premium machine than the current PS5 or the PS5 "slim"... ? Improved 8K performance therefore also means improved 4K as well. Nobody is going to play at 8K. 4K 30 FPS games on the PS5 will run at 4K 60 FPS on the PS5 Pro.

I see this as all pros. Smaller, more storage, removable disk drive. Everything you’d want. My main complaint about mine is the only one available was the disk version. And I HATE the way it looks. So damn goofy hanging off the side. The obvious decision would have been to hide the disk drive in the center black part and would have made it symmetrical. Big L in that way as far as aesthetics.

UPDATE: As of 10/12/24, with the most recent Digital Foundry findings and tests performed by other early access testers, it turns out my predictions from nearly a year ago were close! I predict the Pro's GPU performance is going to be in the range of RTX 3090 Ti/RTX 4070 Ti at the highest, or since it's an AMD GPU, RX 7900 XT and RX 7700 XT or RTX 4070 at the lowest. Based on generational patterns and how PS5 is similar to RTX 2070 Super or RX 5700 XT performance. Of course, the further back the release date, the more that could change, but if it releases within the next year or so, I'm hard pressed to believe they'll put anything under the hood more powerful than RTX 4080 or RTX 7900 XTX.

It really isn't outside the realm of possibility when you consider the rapid rate that tech evolves and how both the RTX 3090 and current gen consoles released in 2020. So when you look at that projection, if the consoles launched with GPUs roughly as powerful as a RX 5700 XT, it could be the case. How else are they going to achieve true Native 4K with framerates exceeding 60 fps?

Honestly though, if you currently don't have a PS5 and are savvy with selling unwanted stuff on eBay etc. I am thinking that it wouldnt be a terrible idea to buy a Slim now and enjoy a year of amazing games and then sell it a year later to go towards a PS5 Pro. I think that is what I am going to do because I ended up selling my launch PS5 to fund a project but I am looking to play Spiderman 2 now. I know if you wait a year than technically you have spent less money overall but as long as you don't trade it in to Gamestop and get ripped off than I think it would be worth an extra year or PS5 enjoyment.

2:40 Actually playing horizontally is better. Saw a video explaining that the heatsink used in ps5 is heavy and if you use it vertically, gravity slowly pulls the heatsink metal down and you get gaps thus affecting heat transfer. In the long run it can ruin your PS5.

I’m having overheating and shutdown issues with my launch console (zero warnings before shutdown) sometimes 30 minutes in and sometimes a few hours in. I already thoroughly cleaned it and it still happens, if the issue doesn’t resolve with fresh Thermal Paste or Liquid Metal I’ll have to sell and get the Slim.

Having a higher frame rate at 4k sounds great for a ps5 pro but i don't understand how they could make that happen without it costing as much as a high end PC. A 3090 barely runs things at 60fps with or in some cases without ray tracing and that's a $1200 card. i just don't understand what they could possibly do to achieve 60+fps at 4k and keep it around $500-600.

They are gonna do a fake upscaled 4k. Probable a 2k 60fps upscaled to 4k. Native 4k 60fps is really hard even for high end gpus. But 2k 60fps has become more doable.

I remember getting mine back then😅 I searched for 3 weeks straight wherever I could night and day, then one night it appeared on an delivery app like Amazon and I bought just to be told its a mistake 😮 then 2 days after on the same platform it appeared! Looking back it's lack of availability and reputation meant I never even googled it properly. Now it's one of my most regretted purchases! It's just costed money without the benefits. Bought a LG C2 for 120 frames just to discover only 10 games run at the rate, bought a wireless mouse and keyboard to realize they don't work, I've had to but 3 controllers since because they break like you've never seen from any console ever! And for what? Exclusives 🙄 The amount I've spent I should have got a PC! If I was broke I should have got an Xbox and after all that 😮 the ps5 pro gonna force me to buy a new console which I won't! Like wheres the benefit if not cost? No applications, no web browser forced to use what they allow whether hard ware or software like its a waste!
