Have you thought about having some custom made to the same spec? Would this work? I've just found a place that does custom drumsticks - the London Drumstick Co. (I tried to post earlier with the link but it hasn't appeared.)

Yeah just checked the site: londondrumsticks.co.uk/product-tag/7a/ So I did it!!! I custom designed my stick to the specs of my current stick, the Calato Regal Tip 7AN. It's a 15" Hickory stick, with a diameter of 0.510" and a tapper edge of 0.230 with a Nylon (Teardrop) tip. @@BarryBangemout Wow - that was quick. I thought that you might have to send one of your old ones for them to copy. I really hope that it works out OK. I was thinking that so long as the wood is correct, (right density and hardness) and the size and shape is correct, it must be possible to make the same thing. (Please don't blame me if it doesn't work out - I am not recommending these guys - I've never heard of them until I Googled "custom made drumsticks" yesterday - I was just trying to help!). It all sounds good so far - as you say - fingers crossed!

@@BarryBangemout As a "backup" idea, could you modify sticks that are currently available? If you can get some that are the right diameter to begin with, it should be possible to adjust the taper with a file and sandpaper. Or even if you had oversized sticks, it might be possible for someone to machine them down to size for you, but this might be more difficult because the tip is already formed. (I'm neither a drummer nor a woodworker, but I can usually come up with ideas - however impractical!)

@@Lenovo-vz7ln Hey Lenovo2013!, No not at all! I think this was a good risk, as you stated, if it all is "THE" specs, (wood type, diameter, tapper, balance, etc...) How can I not roll the dice on that! :) Besides, it really wasn't as expensive as I initially perceived it to be when you first mentioned it the other day to me. Along with my custom order, I also sent several key members of that company an email depicting all the aforementioned. Hopefully I'll receive some positive feedback next week. :) Thank you so much for helping! :)

I totally feel your pain. There is nothing like Regal Tip. I used the 5B. Perfect weight and feel. Plus there is something about the finish… never feels slippery. I’m using the Zildjian 5B dipped. Not bad. Holding out hope for a Regal Tip comeback

Hi slo! Yeah, it's truly been a nightmare to say the least... for YEARS this has been going on! After exhaustively searching for a replacement, as I totally gave up on Calato!!! and I'm a dealer too!!! then one of the subscribers told me about the London Drumstick Company in the UK. I had them "try" to make me the replacement according to the specs, but after TWO custom purchases, it still was not right. It was their mistake, as they did not follow my specs and just duplicated a bad spec. They were nice enough to discount a, now final attempt to get it right. I have a few posts in the main channel comment section and in the PSA posts about it. I should have the new batch in a couple of weeks. Keeping my fingers crossed! :)

I was going to suggest custom made, independent outlets etc but it looks like Lenovo2013 has come up with a solution that you're looking into - fingers crossed and keep us posted on any progress. Failing that it will have to be good old-fashioned improvisation. We all know the Tony Iommi story - he didn't have to deal with discontinued strings or picks - he had to deal with losing his fingertips!

Hi Charles!, OMG! Well said, Impeccable logic and wisdom! :) I feel foolish to complain about pending doom if I can't get my sticks, shame on me! :( For now, at least I'm tapping my sticks up like I did as a kid :)

***UPDATE*** So, I've been corresponding with the London Drumstick Company (LDC) regarding a replacement for my Calato Regal Tip 7AN. The spec were approved, and I was ready to pull the trigger on this order (order details in prior post below). Then I received an email stating that they would not be able to provide a Nylon tip to the sticks. This was a tremendous disappointment, to say the least! As a last ditched effort, before officially cancelling the order, I asked if they had an alternative solution or manufacturer that could help. No answer... started my search again for other drumstick makers. Came across a few independents who really make beautiful custom sticks, but were either WAY over priced or just not making a stick to spec. AND I believe they ALL cannot provide the Nylon tip!!!! That's it! Dead End!!!!! :( So, in a desperate moment, I resent my Email to LDC, regarding any alternatives. This is what I received back today!: Hey Barry! OK,we have sourced some nylon tips, and we'll make these for you. We can't copy the same shape as Regal Tip, but they won't be far off. Best, Will This was my response: YES! YES! YES!!!! Let’s do it !!! Please proceed!!!! 😊 Will update as soon as I have more! :)

So I just got confirmation of my order with LDC (London Drumstick Company). I went over my order specs with them in an email to confirm all is a go for production. Hi Doc!, No, not yet, I've been buying and trying dozens of sticks... None even come close to that milling diameter. Let alone in Hickory and 15" with a Nylon Tip. :(
