I don't want to be a freak, or get arrested for inappropriate exposure, but comfort and minimal appearance come before wanting to make an impression on the great wide world. INFJ Male here. All I can say is "Yup!" Been married 25 years this October. My wife still melts when I start to cry at something tear jerking on TV. My appearance is that of a biker that has way too many miles on him. Laying in bed with my wife and crying like a little girl watching the Notebook. She wouldn't have it any other way. I'm an INFJ-T man, I relate to most of the traits but I must say that feeling emotions and caring for other (and cooking or cleaning) are not feminine things. You can do them in a masculine way. I don't have kids but I often feel like a father watching over my friends and relatives. Another INFJ male here. I too am hopelessly romantic. But the problem is I tend to attach to someone I like too quickly, which doesn’t seem to be a typical INFJ trait. My problem is that I have difficulty telling fantasy from reality. There were many times I got hurt because I was told by the person she was not really in love with me. That always devastated me and it always took me a long time to recover, or never really completely recovered. With those traumas in mind, I now am doing the opposite and intentionally slow things down to avoid getting hurt again. I am also an idealist and I have a lot of requirements for my prospective partner. The list is so long and specific that I think I can only match myself with another INFJ.

Don't limit yourself. I'm a romantic. I connected with the woman I would marry, both mentally and emotionally, from an early age. I knew she was out there and that we were making our way toward each other. I talked to her and told her how we would be happy together. Of course, I didn't know anything about her except that we really wanted each other and wanted to be happy together. Every once in a while, I'd talk to her at night and tell her how I was doing and how I looked forward to finally meeting her. Nothing strange there, right? The only thing there that was about reasoning was the idea that time was relative and If I thought about the future, then I would be in contact with that person, whoever she would be. No wonder that people think INFJs are weird!

Are you familiar with the different attachment styles? What you are describing sounds like possibly anxious attachment style. There are different styles & secure style is where you can end up, it's possible to get there with a little work & internal healing.

My son and I took the MB test a few weeks ago and found out he is an INFJ. It helped us so much. I always knew there was something more special about him than that average male. He is very gifted in music, had always acted more mature than his peers, and more thoughtful of others and their feelings than his peers. He always stated that he feels like he has to dumb himself down to fit in. I'm so glad he took the test so now he can see for himself, not just mom and family telling him he is special. I couldn't be more proud to have a son like him

These videos show me that I'm not alone but also make me feel more lonely. They prove what I have felt for years and recently managed to put into words, which is that I am surrounded by the wrong people, with one or two exceptions. Through experience, long before I knew anything about personality types, I learned about and accepted my true nature, allowing me to differentiate between myself and what I absorb from others, eventually learning to block those attitudes of others that drag me down. However, having to block so much negative while experiencing so little positive takes the majority of my energy, leaving too little to truly accomplish anything. I need to find the right people with whom to surround myself, but am clueless about where to go and/or how to pull far enough away from the current crowd to get the full benefit of the new one. Currently struggling to hold on to any sense of hope for such and find myself just going through the motions of life far too often.

Well, I find life has a tendency to change, sometimes quickly. People leave and come into one's life at a rate I personally find hard to fathom (but it is realistic). My advice would be to let the people who want to drift away from you do so and in the meantime put yourself in a position to meet new people and selectively let those people into your life. That's why I joined choir in college, I was tired of all the negativity of the guys I had machining class with.

As an INFJ man I have struggled all my life just to "fit in". I've had many relationships that didn't work out due to my pickyness, and as a result I've been single all my life.. From all the way back to my childhood I felt I was very different than others, but only recently did I find out I was INFJ after taking the Myers-Briggs test. I am very DEEP and I rarely encounter anyone who appreciates my depth. I've always felt I had a LOT to give and would make a woman very happy, but unfortunately all I seem to attract are users and takers, and no givers. Very frustrating.

I'm really proud of myself because I was often misunderstood by others and also myself, although I know what I like and dislike I'm ended up confused. now I can say that there's nothing wrong with me. If you are an INFJ, unsure, or have someone close is an INFJ, then please take note and try to understand as much as you can. If I had known my personality type even two years ago and learned even 10% of what I've learned since I discovered I'm an INFJ, I most likely could have saved my marriage. There were so many things that I did not know how to verbalize to my wife or know that In could tell her, and she TRULY wanted to understand, that I now know and can grasp for the most part. Seasoned INFJ fella here. I could literally talk for days about dating and women and all of my experiences. Here's a VERY short summary of what goes through my brain when approaching a woman. I go into "Chameleon Mode". Prepare to adapt to the situation. Divorce myself from negative thoughts. Remind myself not to make concessions to her natural instinct to test me. Understand that I could failure or success and that either outcome is good. Then FORCE myself to make the first move. The women I'm drawn to usually expect that from a man. And, that's usually the biggest hurdle and victory for me... forcing myself to initiate contact. Once that's done you'll fall into being the charmer that you are. All the while reading her like a book. Even if she's not interested in you initially, she will be afterwards. Women know when they're dealing with a rare person and that fascinates them.

Sounds like you have someone particular you want to approach. Expect rejection but don't assume it. Be HONEST and BLUNT in the romantic approach. Attempt to appear nonchalant. As for lowering the standard, that's on you mate, but remember, no one is perfect, including you.

as an INFJ man I crave for relationship, but when I think about the struggle I have to face I just simply give up. (struggles like: not being understand, cheated on and criticize) 〒▽〒 I am someone who thinks fully about the situation and possible outcome's(also the unexpected). So I am ready if anything comes up. And if I see/feel that there is too much of a hassle to deal with I just don't do it. Does that make sense? can you guys also relate to this?

I also relate as an INFJ Male, however sometimes you just have to stick around for people. Even though they might make you uncomfortable, sometimes you just have to take a small break and come back to that person and discuss the conflict. Even thought it makes me uncomfortable, I deal with it, and push through. A lot of this stuff is communication. And you can't shut yourself out when something makes you uncomfortable. You have to have those uneasy conversations if you want a good relationship.

@@justinh75 I understand. To be honest that's one of my weak points (to make the first move)!. I have tried it several times (make the first move that is ) but the situation became soooo awkward that is just wanted to melt (￣▽￣) I'm not a type of person who runs away from people. I want to be ready for the unexpected, but am to scared to make a unexpected situation. (basically I want to go with the flow)

I relate, the only way I got away from that was by missing out on life and felt like I was letting it pass me by. I got angry at myself for being so fearful of getting hurt that I walled up myself so intensely that I was shutting others out. If you want to have a deep connection with someone, you have to make yourself vulnerable, and you can't dwell on potential failures. It sucks and takes energy but you have to take calculated risks if you want to find someone who will stay around. It'll surprise you when you find someone who chooses to stay with you, they'll see a lot of good in you but you'll ask yourself why. Don't listen to the cynicism of you own mind, it's a survival technique but unfortunately freedom to love is in direct competition to emotional safety. Sorry for the rant, a lot of experience in a short amount of time, I would feel selfish to not share.

Personally hesitant to make the first move because more than likely on something like that it's somebody you don't know is it worth your time and effort to even put into it I'd say if you know the person sure if you don't know the person nah we want to but the drive the wheel to do so depletes fast because well we observe what they're doing for that little bit of time and quite frankly most of us know whether or not we want to talk to a person or even be around a person way before we ever meet them
