She's qualifying all of these because further investigation may reveal there are other reasons for these tells. A man might be taught by his parents to always have a firm handshake, which neutralizes that as a clue. Or say you meet someone at a cafe & they are brusque with the waitstaff: it may not be due to personality, but because that person is preoccupied with some important matter. (This would be the case with someone who is brusque with the waitstaff yet leaves a generous tip.) These are all bits of a puzzle, which needs to be assembled & studied before any firm judgment is made. None should be used in isolation.

it's extremely telling. for the same reasons as how people treat people who can't talk yet &/or of other species is: these are all opportunities to show empathy without the motivation being an expectation of the usual levels of accountability. unfortunately, the best tell is how someone treats someone whom they have good and used to them plus locked into a sense of personal loyalty & a marriage contract with no good prenup.

For each point. 1. Most of my friends and family are quite a distance away, and I don't like to seem like I'm avoiding them by not texting back as soon as I can. 2. I try to be friendly and polite to others in general. 3. I wear gumboots around home, especially in the paddocks, because it's safer (especially when the brown snakes are out). I wear comfortable runners if I'm going into town or something. 4. I tend to watch a person's mouth when talking with them, rather than their eyes, unless I know them well. 5. I don't like shaking hands. I find it uncomfortable. 6. I'm very punctual, if I have a say in it. 7. I definitely check with others if I'm grabbing food or beverages if they want something. I also check if there's anything I need to do then or soonish before I start anything that's going to take a while. I also consider surprising others if there's something cheap and I have enough change. 8. I don't think I put others down, but it is possible that I do so accidentally. If it gets pointed out, I will apologise... and then potentially mess it it by trying to spin what I said into something more positive. 9. I close my eyes when drinking out of a cup. What does that tell you about me? I'm curious.

Bro, I always treat service staff well. I know what it’s like to work hard, so I appreciate and respect everybody. Cashiers, receptionists, wait staff, everybody. On the very rare occasion that I go out to eat with mates, I always ask for things politely, wait patiently, clean up after myself, and if the staff are super cool, I’d leave a good tip (we don’t really tip here in Australia). People appreciate the little things, especially when it seems like some people often forget to treat you with common decency on a regular basis.

And I never want a person to have that feeling.
@iampomegranates3 жыл бұрын
I wasn’t abused but I still feel like that’s a cultural thing. It can be nice to get people things if you have the money and there’s no reason not to, but some people weren’t raised to believe you should always get gifts for others even if you can hardly afford what you get for yourself.
@covahsmusicvault89533 жыл бұрын
@@iampomegranates Nobody should ever feel they must gift to someone. My adoptive mum was very cruel to me yet she "bought" so-called friendship with others her whole life. She even did this with my own children. It got so bad that when she was w/o a job, she refused to visit my kids because she felt she had to bring them a gift each time. When she finally showed up 2 months later, my daughter answered the door and refused to let her in because her mei/nana had NO gift. I wanted to be angry with my daughter, but I realized it was NOT my child's fault...it was her mei's. This is why I deeply wish others to know that your existence in someone's life is priceless on its own. Never let anyone make you feel as if you must pay to be around them or be their friend....such expectations are NOT friendship! I hope this helps anyone that is in doubt of their own self-worth.

Punctuality is a good way to show consideration for others, rather than letting them sit and wonder what happened to you, if you're going to show up, etc. and wasting their time, especially in a professional type of situation or regarding appointments, as a lackadaisical attitude toward being on time can be indicative of unreliability, regardless of how much stuff you've got going on; at least call and let them know if you're going to be late, which is indicative, again, of consideration for the other person. With eye contact and handshakes, some people are still taught to make eye contact as a sign of respect, and to have a firm handshake, because first impressions and stuff. Because of this, firm handshakes and more eye contact are more common in business settings. A person will also make more eye contact with someone whose company they enjoy, even if they're introverted. This also applies for the drink thing. If you're having a conversation with someone, they're more likely to look at you over the rim of their cup while taking a drink. I've done this a lot by accident with people I liked or whom I wanted to like me, but when I'm alone I look down at the drink with my eyes half-closed. Also remember, when the video lady mentioned looking over the rim as a sign of awareness: it might be that the person is keeping an eye out for someone/something, or they might be on edge. Be sure to look for other body language signs, such as the direction the person is leaning/facing, tense shoulders, or narrowed eyes in order to get the whole picture.

Oh, I guess the extroverted introvert label really does kinda fit for me. I'd consider myself an introvert, but off the top of my head, the eye contact, handshake, and cup drinking things really resonate with me, although the eye contact and handshake things are partly due to being raised to be polite in the traditional Korean sense.

I grew up homeschooled, so I was taught similarly (didn’t have a lot of friends so my dad would teach me handshakes and such), and consider myself an extremely introverted extrovert lol Edit: I’ve since learned that introversion/extroversion doesn’t correlate with social skills or even the desire for a social life, but correlates with how energized you feel around people. I’m definitely an extrovert, and I have social skills but I’m painfully awkward 😂

I LOVED the thing about the cup, I find I look all the 3 places mentioned. AND that these are indicate of my mood. But most commonly I tend to look inside, but usually outside and then inside. First to see if anyone is watching me drink and second to see how much remains in the cup.

The shoe bit is clever as hell. I used to wildly insecure, in a constant state of internalized pain. I wore dress shoes all the time. They were relatively uncomfortable, but I did not want to wear anything else. It's cool because as I got older I put away many of my dress shoes, and currently wear a pair of shoes that are very comfortable. I really never thought of that until now.

Thanks for realizing that like most people think, it isn't just "that damn phone". My phone is my escape. Online I have a broader pool of people to choose from, and it's way easier to find people my age that I really like than it is to find people in my small community irl where I have scars down my arms and am awkward as all hell. I've found amazing people that I connect with and that are easier to share with/get to know than people irl. They make me feel validated and loved as much as anybody. Yes, I have educated myself on online safety and keep myself safe. Yeah, drama happens online and friends are lost. But guess what? It happens irl too. Or sometimes I just need my phone to help take my mind off all the crap going on around me...

I think there is a difference between being an introvert and being shy. I'm also an introvert but I noticed by having better posture, learning to keep eye contact e.g. the shyness (I don't know if this is a word, I'm no native English speaker, sorry if it's nonexistent) gets lesser.

True. It's also possible that anxious/neurotic people might have a firm handshake cuz the (seemingly) simple act of shaking hands trigger some degree of anxiety, which have made 'em investigate how to "properly" shake. ...I'm just guessing tho. I've def never googled that, eheh.......

#4: Eye Contact Autism - Those who are Autistic, even high-functioning Autists, find it VERY difficult to look even loved ones and friends in the eye. We fear it. Meeting someone in the eye means making a connection of a sort that we find very uncomfortable, even abrasive. Sociopaths - These people don't give an F. You know how someone says if a person blinks a lot they're lying? Or if someone stares at you too intently, they're lying? If you want to know if someone across the room is watching you, fake a yawn, and if they yawn, they're watching you? These tricks do not work on a Sociopath.

Autistic person here to say that the system of functioning labels are (finally) becoming out of date due to it being from a eugenics view of autism, as well as not actually being sufficient in describing the experiances of autistic people. Yay for us! Some people when hearing this default back to calling 'high-functioning' autistic people as having 'Aspergers syndrome' but I strongly discourage that; calling on the name of the nazi scientist who, having experimented on us, decided to name us after him (no he wasn't even autistic himself) ain't a good look. My recommendation would be to say that "even those on the spectrum who take to communicating through social interaction very effectively" since that's the specific trait you're talking about. Hope this helped! :)
@notmyrealname43633 жыл бұрын
@Delta Tha Fella I sorry I came across that way. My meaning was that it shouldn't be something that other autistic or allistic people should label us as, it's something for us to decide for ourselves and to say that as an individual you are ok with that label, but that it shouldn't be assumed that someone is comfortable with that. There is definitely a culture and a community that we as autistic people have and aspie has been a part of that. I think that should stand on its own separate from Asperger. It's something that belongs to members of the autistic community that is about #actuallyautistic people and not some N*zi. It has it's terrible origins, but it's more so about community, than said origins or just another way of saying aspergers. My intention wasn't to imply that it's wrong or bad, only that it's wrong to apply it to people in the same way as aspergers syndrome (outdated terminology), but instead as something that some members of our community find comfort in- beyond any reference to specific diagnostic terms used at any given time.
