Marvel’s variant solicit for Hellions # 13 features Psylocke in a lot of her most famous X-Men costumes. Psylocke is my favorite X-Men character of all time, so I thought what fun it would be to do a definitive ranking of all these outfits!

I would much rather them being written as close friends/sisters. Like they know each other better than they know themselves... like the two spending time together with Betsy wanting Sake and Kwannon wanting English tea. I also would like to see them be able to communicate without the use of their powers Betsy should have her old Captain Britain costume and call her Britannia

I definitely think they are going to start moving more toward that sisterly angle with each other. It feels like their time on Krakoa has been a big arc first with them ignoring each other, then with them fighting each other, and now with them helping each other, so it feels like teaming up and becoming cool with each other is the next evolution for them (at least that's how I'm seeing it)

I am definitely finding myself more interested in the Kwannon character lately versus the Betsy Braddock character. Even though Kwannon is using the old Psylocke name/outfit, it still feels like she is forging her own identity through her actions, whereas I feel like Betsy is still struggling to get there. I think she will get there in time, but certainly for now Kwannon is much more interesting imo

@@GreatXMentations A lot of people overlooked Fallen Angels, but I was glad to have a miniseries focus on one obscure character and let us explore their motivations. It was character driven, not plot or action driven like most other stories these days, but that's what I liked about it.

@@Mitsu2040 Yes, I remember audibly gasping in delight when I heard that Kwannon was going to star in the series. I don't think the execution of the series was perfect, but it was still really nice to have something like it among the mass of other team-based books, and it helped flesh her out as an individual character a lot.

Oh yeahhh the flowers. What's even up with those?! I feel like I harked on that costume too much already, I can't go in with her hair accessories too. The poor girl will have nothing left 😂 I'm happy that not everyone shares my opinion of the CB design. It's always good to have a breadth of opinions out there.

I love her Captain Britain look, it references British Knights, but also the hair and flowers bring a traditionally Celtic flavour to it, something vaguely Arthurian but also nature based. It’s not so in your face British like her brother, it’s still clearly British but it’s got Anglo and Celtic cultural references which, for me, is better because most people only think of English Culture when the Celtic cultures are still very much present in the British Isles.

This was awesome!! I’ve always liked Psylocke as well but she never gets the credit or recognition she deserves. I started reading X-Men as a young teenager in the early ‘90s with X-Men #1. I’ve always only know Psylocke in the blue ninja suit, however, I’d see covers of back issues of Psylocke and always wondered about her past costumes and their backstory. Your video thoroughly and adequately explained them to me. Now so many questions and curiosities I had for nearly 30 years have been answered. Thank you!

Great video! The Hand costume is my number one favorite, but personally I feel like it’s more fitting for Kwannon and not Betsy. So with that in mind, my favorite costume of Betsy’s would probably be her Disassembled costume. I wish she kept it longer. Her first Captain Britain costume always makes me think of those Bomb Pop frozen popsicles. Other than marketing, I understand why people say it doesn’t make sense for Kwannon to want to use the name Psylocke when she wants to keep separate from Betsy, but I see it as her thinking it might be more trouble than it’s worth to constantly correct people who have known that body as Psylocke for over 20 years. Either that or she’s waiting to change it until she discovers who she is and what she’s about now that she isn’t needing revenge anymore, so no need to going back to Revanche. That’s just my take on it.

ahh nice theory. I do like it when there's a rationale or reasoning behind characters' decisions, and I definitely would have preferred her say something explicitly like this. I think the most we got from her in the comics was like "Betsy used my body, I'm keeping the name" or something vague like that, so I appreciate the fan-theories filling in the blanks 😆

@@GreatXMentations I agree. I think Betsy fans would embrace Kwannon as Psylocke more if there was an issue, or even just a panel, showing Betsy passing on the title to her. Right now a lot of Betsy fans I talk to feel like Kwannon just took it because she felt she was owed it or something. I feel like I’m one of the few who doesn’t feel that way, but I’m a bit biased because I’ve been a fan of Kwannon since the 90s when she was first introduced and felt like she got a raw deal with getting the Legacy Virus so soon after joining the X-Men, so I always feel the need to defend her. I was very upset when she died and I’m thrilled that she’s back.

I like her 'All-New, All-Different' costume the best. It may not be as flashy or revealing as her better known costumes, but it had a sleek functional simplicity that I like. I just wish they added some more purple accents or maybe some purple boots to break up the blue towards the bottom

Nice job on the list! I'd be awesome if you did this kind of costume ranking with other X-Men characters! Psylocke is one of my favorite X-Men too. Her classic ninja suit is my favorite look of hers! Kwannon is really rocking it so well in the Hellions! Stephen Segovia and Dave Curiel draw her so perfectly there! I hope she keeps wearing that for a long time! Psylocke's classic Ninja suit is super fun to wear as a cosplay in my experience as well. I really enjoyed all the X-Treme X-Men looks overall. Black and Blood Red are my favorite colors though. I kind of hate blue and yellow as a color combo so I always hate those looks LOL There are things I like about the armored Captain Britain look Betsy currently has, but I do prefer Betsy's Lady Mandurian or Outback Armor to it. Those armored looks were much more stylish. I didn't like any of Betsy's pants X-Force looks. Her Uncanny X-Men look with the purple detailing was better, but it never totally worked for me. The Revolution outfit is quite stylish with the midriff top, but it doesn't really feel like a Psylocke look to me. I do really like the Revanche look and Kwannon's return look when she called herself Nothing. They are stylish and feel like Psylocke looks! Betsy's astral plane and shadow astral plane look are fine. Betsy's pink jumper and original Captain Britain look fit with early Betsy's character very well. I would like to see Betsy in that pink, purple and black body suit she was wearing before her Captain Britain look she's currently sporting. It'd be nice to see more of Betsy's own style again.

Psylocke has been my favorite female marvel character of all time, for obvious reasons... But I really don't mind her newest costume, it actually looks nice! And the feminine light colors brings out her personality, and being captain Britain makes it more empowering. But my favorite has to be the original blue ninja version, the practicality is that her enemies are distracted! Lol you won't believe how many games I won with her on mvc2 because of the outfit and weebs I played with lol but I'm really like her newer costume from marvel ultimate alliance 3, adds a lot more into her classic look, and i feel it may be my favorite version to date, not sure yet.

LOLs, she got the "Lady Lancelot" (as Rogue called her) armour, because previously when she has worn the pink puffy sleave romper, she kept on getting knocked out in every fight (any bad guy team who wants to ambush the x-men know's, take out the telepath first, and the prev telepaths, jean grey & rachel summers had both been telelkinetics). It was also ironic she chose the time in the Australian outback to wear a full suit of protective armour, a place where temperatures of 40degrees C are common (poor girl didn't need to get hit in the head, she would pass out from heat exhaustion & dehydration). The Lady Mandarin armour is still one of the best things she ever wore!

My head canon with Kwannon is that there was always a little bit of her soul/mind intermingling with Betsy in the sexy ninja era. Hence her feeling the compulsion to continue with the Psylocke name and aesthetic.

In the Fallen Angels mini series, Kwannon revealed she was trapped in her body while Betsy had control of it for years. She was only free when she could inhabit Betsy's original body, but that never lasted long, so for the majority of the body swap Kwannon was a prisoner in her own body. It's unclear just how aware of this Betsy was. Psylocke and all the personality and aesthetic I loved about that seems to be from Kwannon. I'm cool with that. Kwannon is an awesome character! I'm loving getting to know her more in Hellions.

Yes, I think this is all correct, and from what I gather there was a lot more nuance to Spiral's little project than a straight-up mind-swap. During the Revanche/Psylocke days there was something about them both having aspects of each other, and then after Revanche died, Psylocke became "whole" (or as whole as she could have been given all the complexity of the situation). Even thought Betsy was my girl for years and years, these days I am def gravitating toward Kwannon in terms of character interest. Maybe I just loved Kwannon all along! 😮😆

The outback armor seems like something they could look back into for Captain Britain, like dive headfirst into Arthurian references if they have to, I think it'll still work. lol well I am glad that even x-treme fashion has some fans. Technically Kwannon claimed her own life before the legacy virus could formally do her in. She had Matsu'o stab her like moments leading up to her demise.

Carol is actually my fave character with Psylocke and Captain Britain being the second. Since Early 90’s. LOVE Carol was elevated to Captain Marvel because differently from every other previous Captain Marvels - Monica, Genis and Phyla (Mar-vell’s children) and even a Skrull- Carol lived the legacy since day 1 as Ms Marvel. More than that she IS half Kree, her mother is a Kree and she was close to the original Captain Marvel. Even closer than both of their children. So it was a perfect fit for her and left the Ms Marvel legacy to Kamala. Her previous costume as cool for the time where the male gaze was in the forefront. I mean she never appealed to being sexy why wearing a black suit with long boots? Her new Captain Marvel costume is AMAZING, fits her military background, it’s cosmic and has the legacy on it.

Same goes for Betsy as Captain Britain, I mean it fits her. We all know that Betsy was Captain Britain way back and that was something she always wanted to be, to follow her family’s legacy. I also like the costume, she can look beautiful and fierce without showing her cheeks. Same goes for Kwannon as Psylocke. I love this - why a woman who became famous for years with this name (linked physically to it) couldn’t be it. I think if someone deserved this legacy is Kwannon. As much as I understand the need of the blue bath suit to let people understand she’s Psylocke now, I think she deserved a very personal costume.

It will definitely be interesting to keep tabs of Kwannon's costume as her character develops. Maybe after a few years of being Psylocke, and after the fans are adjusted to both her and Betsy being separate characters, she'll decide to go for something completely different? Kwannon should be allowed to do more empathy power stuff. Her psionic blades are too much reminiscence of Betsy's power when she was in her body. Basically, the writers need to look at MCU Mantis and adapt her powers for Kwannon. Also, Kwannon needs to go solo more often. I'd like her to be a detective, and I'd love if one day her real name is revealed. "Kwannon" is a name given by her evil caretaker when she was groomed to be an assassin since childhood. That's a codename!

Fallen Angels for me just doesn't exist, pure garbage. Specially when it was sayd that Kwannon was trapped in Betsy's mind this whole time, just lies! Back when she died of the Legacy Virus the X-Men did a scan on Betsy and were certified that Kwannon was gone leaving no traces on Betsy! That book tried to make Kwannon better by trowing all the bad stuff on Betsy, like she's the villain of the story, when they both are victims. Besides that, i loved that they are separated and since Betsy returned to be Captain Britain, i'm happy that Kwannon became Psylocke! I'm loving to see them grow on their on and i hope to see them work together in the future! ❤

I liked her gala outfit. I think that that outfit with the helmet, flowy purple hair, and armor boots would be perfect. It would still have the armor aspect but with more visible light fabric and fringe. It could even be more armor under the fringe just not visible. Also if she can materialize weapons she could actually materialize some part of her armor to not always look so bulky. They could also borrow some things from the Excalibur cover where she is sitting on a throne with a queen outfit. I don't think there is a Marvel hero with royal imagery. Some kind of crown, corseted with armor and some more girly details. I like her wearing some for of British inspired armor also balanced with some monarchy inspired looks. She cant look like Captain Carter but she can't look too traditionally girlish either.

Does Kwannon have any mutant powers? I agree that Kwannon probably wouldn't choose to call herself Psylocke. I also didn't feel that Storm would be on a team named Marauders. A Morlock just wouldn't fit on a team named after Morlock murderers

The only thing I disagree with is the CB uniform. Betsy was never meant to be a ninja it’s logical (as far as comics can go). Pretend that the body swap never happened. Captain Britain is the next step. Love the flowers. Love the cape. Love the sword and shield.

This is a good point. Betsy Braddock was like the farthest thing from a ninja pre-Kwannon. It would have been interesting to see how her character would have evolved naturally without all of that. She might even have been a contender to replace Roma or something, just in keeping with the idea of her being destined to the Captain Britain mythos.

In my stories, she becomes a Psimage trained by Roma, trained to be a warrior, but not a Ninja. Jim Lee just got lucky is all.

Classic Psylocke costume with those little leather bands all over her body... Love it, but how does she get those on??? Are they tied on? Are they elastic? Haha...

Kwannon goes by Psylocke because the writers swapped them back to pat themselves on the back for anti-racism. But they didn't actually want to invest effort. They were both better off before.
