You are the man. I commented a video yesterday about loosing all hydrualics and you said about checking the splines on this shaft. Well i watched this video on how to remove it and when i did i found the plug back against the cover and the snap ring in pieces. No sign of an oring. So that let the long shaft slide back out of the engine splines. Now i need to what size o ring and snap ring i need. Again, thank you so much you have no idea how much time you saved me.

Thank you so much for posting this video. I had a stripped PTO shaft and hub on my 1850. I had split the tractor in 2 and this shaft was still holding the 2 halves together. I was dumbfounded until I found this video 5 minutes later. You were my hero that night 👍🏻

I used to work for a White/Oliver dealer 15-20 years ago. I still have people find me somehow and ask me how to get that shaft out. I can usually talk them through it on the phone but about a year ago a guy had been working on it on and off for two days and could not get it out. So I went down there to take a look. He said he would give me $100.00 if I could get it out. (He did not disengage the PTO lever so you could not line up the spines!) I pulled it out on the second try. I did not take his $100 bucks but we all had a good laugh.

Nice video very help full. Now I’m wondering we’re I can find a good used or new long shaft? Also the flywheel spline piece I don’t know what that one is called. Any information on finding these parts would be great.
@ThatOliverGuyChris4 жыл бұрын
Agco still offers them and A&I has aftermarket versions. A&I is about a 1/3 the price, but I haven't been impressed with their quality. So it comes down to how much you use it. Depend on it to feed animals? I'd buy the Agco one. Going to drive it in parades or light duty stuff? Put the cheaper in.

is there a end play spec on the shaft once its all installed? with the snap ring installed, i can move the short stubby shaft back and forth about an 1/8 inch.
@ThatOliverGuyChris7 ай бұрын
I don't know of a spec for that, but that's fine. On the 50 series and later that has pressurized lube oil behind it that pushes it against the snap ring.

@@ThatOliverGuyChris thanks, actually it's about 1/4 inch, didn't know if that would be excessive and cause any problems, the shafts are in real good condition.

what would i need to attach a hydraulic to the back of this shaft so i could operate the loader and use pto at the same time?
@ThatOliverGuyChris4 ай бұрын
If I was going to do it on a 50 series, I would find a used casting and shaft, just like what is on the pto. Then you will have a top shaft to put a pump on. Just remember, the top shaft turns the opposite direction of the pto, and at the same speed as the engine, so that is probably going to change which pto pump you need to do this properly. Maibach Tractor should have everything you would need to get the job done. Google the name, you'll find their contact info.

Chris, there is a 1855 on Tractorhouse that says pto keeps spinning when not engaged why? And is this the same procedure to fix it.
@ThatOliverGuyChris3 жыл бұрын
The clutch discs are warped, and the pto brake is shot. I've got a video on rebuilding an 1855 pto, but you also need to remove the pto shaft as outlined in this video

Mr Losey, I am working on an 1800 b model. I am changing and replacing the hydraulic pump drive gears. Do you have to take off the transmission cover that the shift lever goes through? My book doesn't address this procedure at all. Thank you for your information and time.
@ThatOliverGuyChris3 жыл бұрын
To do it right, you'll need to pull that cover as well. The gears are all under the hydraulic unit, but to change the front bearing for the middle gear you need access to the front compartment.
@terenceblanchette90593 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the info. That was what I was thinking. I have done a similar procedure on other brands but this is the first time I've done this on an Oliver.

So I have a oliver 1550 and the rear end coupler sprocket and the engine sprocket wont line up so I cant get the coupler chain on??? Any advice?
@ThatOliverGuyChris5 жыл бұрын
Do you have the right motor mount bolts? Two of them are 1/2", and the other two (right rear and left front) are supposed to be 9/16 bolts that act like dowel/alignment pins. I can't tell you how many I have come across that have 1/2" bolt on all 4 corners, which will allow the engine to sit a little crooked. With new sprockets and chain, things have to be pretty close to get it together. Slide the sprockets right up to each other and you should be able to feel if one is higher than the other, or left or right of the other.
@baitswithnate76155 жыл бұрын
I would have never thought of that, the engine sprocket is higher ba a little bit so your solution might solve my problem.
@ThatOliverGuyChris5 жыл бұрын
There also might be a bolt coming up through the frame to support the bottom of the hydra power. Some have it, some dont, but it is there to adjust the hydra power up or down to align those sprockets.
@baitswithnate76155 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure mine does not have the bolt.

What can cause these shafts to get hung and not come out?
@ThatOliverGuyChris10 ай бұрын
It's usually the bearing, but I have seen ones that have gotten rusty on the inside and don't want to come out of the splines. Sometimes tapping with a hammer while pulling helps. If you have an old pto shaft or yoke you can put on, that really helps give you something to hit or pull on, without messing up the splines

Just the two, Herman and the 1650. There were only 18 1750s with FWA, and I don't think any of them were equipped with Terra Tires. I'd love to add a 1750 FWA to my collection, but I think that is going to take a generous dose of luck to make that happen.
