In Canada, Strategy for Patient-Oriented Research was established to emphasize the importance of partnership between members of the public, patients, researchers, health care providers and other decision-makers in health services research. The objective is to improve health for Canadians.
Members of the public and patients are individuals with personal experience of a health issue or health care situation, including family, friends, and caregivers. These individuals bring their own experiences and critical expertise to the health research process. While the public and patients are experts based on their lived experience of a disease, health condition, or health-related situation, researchers and clinicians are trained in clinical and health research.
This Friday seminar with Dr. Maria J. Santana will present and discuss the evidence related to public and patient engagement in health research and its impact on health services research and healthcare.
