I have loved having birds all my life! I'm a retired nurse and really want to establish an aviary. I was a labor and delivery nurse and it seems I still love the miracle of life! I absolutely love your videos! I have a bonded pied pair and a pied male and a grey female. I also have my pet baby girl who is a white faced 5 yo. She's my baby and I constantly am training her to do new things! After hormone rage I plan on doing the same with my other 4 so at least, I can handle them. Three of them were hand raised but my male with the grey is wild. I'm working on trust with him. I just found out I have a couple of babies with yellow fuzz. I'm so excited. I built your brooder and have watched all your videos. I will pull them around two weeks because the pair are doing such a great job! Thank you so much for all the information. I feel confident after watching your videos on what I need to do to raise these babies up properly! Thanks again! Terri

How long do I keep my newborn baby in an incubator?
@Bird.Squawk
@Bird.Squawk Жыл бұрын
Some incubators can double as a brooder. As long as the baby is not crowded and you can control the temperature you can use it as a brooder.

Love your videos!! Thank you for the time you put in! WE have1 baby that was splaying legs but we fixed it. He is 14 days old. Parents don't feed him much so I took over. I worry about him not holding his head up all the time yet. Not sure if it is normal. He walks a few steps and then puts his head down. Considering taking him to the vet but there are not may bird vets around. I think his legs are weak. I put him in a tea cup at night to see if it helps his leg strength. should i put pipe cleaners back on?

I have a pair of cocateil and they seem like they are adult they are mating and going to lay egg both male and female are going in the nest box. I want to ask is first breeding of cocateil is always a fail and if a baby hatches out of a egg should I handfeed him from that day one?
@Bird.Squawk
@Bird.Squawk Жыл бұрын
They can certainly be fertile eggs, we have videos on the channel on how to check the eggs to see if they are fertile. It is always better to let the parents feed if they will. We keep a watchful eye on the babies in all our nest boxes by checking them daily, on new pairs of parents maybe a few times. You want to make sure the parents are setting on the babies for warmth and check to see if they are feeding them by looking at the crop as well.
@CricketLover-wm5dd
@CricketLover-wm5dd Жыл бұрын
@@Bird.Squawk actually those were fertile and chicks also came out but 2 of them expired because parents were not feeding. I took one out for handfeeding and I have been handfeeding him 3 days from now and he is 4 days old. What is the probability that he will survive. Now he looks very active and eat vey well. Plz tell

@Bird.Squawk

Not recommended, but yes it has been done. we just see too many defects, mostly balding. IMO its still too close in DNA line. Great question.

send pics.... would love to see it. I just pulled another two week old and I set the brooder at 80 degrees. Too much heat at that age and they will dehydrate, too little the food wont move. keep an eye on them.... sometimes its a fine line. Thanks for watching! Kevin

Hello there. I have a question, I got a baby cockatiel, about three weeks old given to me. It's eating right and pooping right and it seems healthy and active for little thing, but there seems to be a bulge on what I think is it's crop. I say I think, because it's more situated on the left part of my bird's chest. Is that normal? The breeder who gave my the bird says it's normal and that it's something that will go away when the bird grows up, but I just need to be sure.
@Bird.Squawk
@Bird.Squawk Жыл бұрын
Without seeing it it's hard for me to tell exactly. However I will say that a bulge on one side of its crop is not normal to me. Again, I would need to see it before I could definitely make a better comment. Kevin. Please keep me posted on this one.
@spoopyd.8910

@@Bird.Squawk Ah yes. It seems that was just slow crop, I don't know why it was like that, but I just spent sometime massaging their crop as gentle as I could for a few night and watched it after it ate. It's gotten better now. No more bulges

This is typically because of heat. some birds are just more sensitive to the heat of the food. An before everyone gets upset.... it happens, its happened to all of us at some point and may happen again. good luck. Kevin

Awesome videos! Shoutout all the way from sunny Singapore! 🇸🇬👏🏼 We would like to seek your expertise and/or ask for your pro tips for a cockatiel with 2 owners. My wife and I. What are the key concerns and how do we train our bird to love us both? It’s loving now, but we just wanted to be sure, long term. Background: we are first time bird owners and we got our cockatiel from a neighborhood pet shop. It’s been almost a week with us and it’s approximately a month’s old. Name of our cockatiel: Dustie. Thank you so very much and we look forward to your reply. D&J

Congratulations' on your new baby bird. Equal time for everything.... from holding, feeding to cleaning the cage. equal time.... after that its up to the bird. if you feel like the bird is taking to one person over the other... that person could back off just a bit so the second person has more time with the bird. and even after all of that... the bird may choose one person.... keep us updated. most importantly enjoy your new baby. This could be a lot of things. I would need to know a lot more information before I would be of any help. I'm in the process of setting up a private line that I can hand out so we may talk over things just like this. My first thought is to separate this pair. If they're not having healthy babies it may be time to put them with different mates. I've done this many times and solve the problem. Kevin

All three of my babies hatched. The youngest turn a week old on Monday and the oldest will be two weeks old tomorrow. The youngest baby looks a lot smaller than the other two. Should I be worried or is it just because it’s 4 days younger? The parents are currently feeding the babies.
