Just had our first cockatiel hatch today. My female layed 2 eggs, mom and dad are feeding. The crop appears to have some food, I don’t want to interfere with mom and dad feeding but when should I. Any help is appreciate.

I have found over the past 30 years that this works the best 1. lots of clean, fresh air 2. The correct light 3. Keeping the cages as clean as possible. 4. Fresh water every day 5. Im lucky enough to have a private aviary. So the breeders get lots of privacy. 6. Most importantly, great food. All my breeders are on pellets. Hope this helps. Kevin

i just got a two week old cockatiel on Saturday.....he is eating very well and i am feeding thru the night. i have hand fed in the past successful. But this morning after his feeding he has started to having his neck shaking off and on....as if he wants more feeding..but ..the motion is looking like he needs another feeding but it is like a shaking motion rather than a feeding time...i have never seen this before....is this an indication of a problem ? he is still chatting with me and moving along ok and his droppings look normal. Can you give me some advice please ..he is precious and seems to have a beautilful personality....

What could you feed a baby bird a few weeks old if you run out of formula? Could you make your own?

i just wanna ask though, i do have 3 egg got hatched and the parents is not feeding them, now the first egg is already 9 day old but the 3rd egg just hatched today should i handfeed them right away? need some advise thanks.

I'm not sure if I understand your question fully. Are the parents not feeding any of the babies or just the newest hatchling? You can try to supplement the one they are not feeding, or you may pull that baby. If they are not feeding any of them any longer, then you would need to pull them and start feeding them all. Hope this helps.

Hi ! I have a Question my 10 days old baby cockatiel is having” angel wing.”He was in incubator and i have noticed today that his wing appeared to be Angled so it sticks out awkwardly instead of being flat against his body. It also hurts him/her when i touch it. How can I fix Angel Wing ? Help me out plz.

Most likely that wing has been Injured. Not much I can help with unfortunately. You need to seek an Avian qualified vet. Best of luck with your baby. Kevin

Without seeing it, I can't really comment on that. I do notice on ours little black spots right before a pin feather breaks through. My question is, does it have other pin feathers starting? Kevin

If the crop is not emptied over night there could be several causes, over feeding, temperature of food, temperature of brooder. Most important though is if it is not emptying then you need to see an Avian veterinarian, once sour crop happens the baby will need medication to overcome it.

How can you tell at birth that it's a boy?? My local bird shop has no clue and telling me to pay for DNA tests for several birds to find out. 😮‍💨
