Thanks Paul! There was a bunch of modern rubbish under the floor (filled the waste bin 2x over) and 30cm of river silt from a flood ~50 years ago. This alongside the plumbing and electrical didn’t make for easy detecting 😅

Pls tell us you found coins under the floors lol , the ones that fell through wooden planks wouldn't be deep , probably just under a pile of dust

A few modern coins. There was a massive flood 50 years ago, which left a large deposit of river silt, roughly 30cm deep. So anything old would be under that unfortunately.

Many thanks for the clear contribution about the removal of asbestos in self-performance! Unfortunately, there is still a lack of information about the many possible uses of asbestos and about which work can be carried out by the customer and with which safety precautions. If you suspect asbestos in your house, too, better to be safe than sorry: a small material sample, which you can easily take yourself, can be used in a professional test procedure to determine whether building materials containing asbestos have been used in your property. If this analysis confirms the suspicion of asbestos, then the following applies: Have any kind of gutting and renovation work carried out exclusively by service providers with the necessary certificate of expertise. Only then can you be sure that no accidental contamination of living spaces, clothing, etc. with asbestos fibers has taken place. Stay healthy!

Jacob the builder..Awesome mate didn't know NSW building laws allowed you to remove your own asbestos??? in Victoria you have to be licensed.

Haha thanks Jim. Yeah in NSW it’s up to 10m2 without a license. Then homeowners can opt in for further training to remove more.

It's good to see you wetting down the asbestos before removing it to reduce loose fibres from falling off. When you handle any glass fibre insulation it's best to wear as a minimum a face respirator. The manufacturers happily state that as it's made of glass it's inert or not poisonous, but what they don't want you to know is that the bonding agent is carcinogenic and the fibres themselves will cut through your lung tissue causing your lungs to scar up and harden over time, resulting in diminished origination of your blood. Or in other words, like silicosis. I'd recommend you get a good set of knee pads. They can be expensive and sometimes uncomfortable, but if you don't your knees won't like you by the time you hit your mid 40's to 50's. Plus a good pair or two earmuffs and protective eyewear - glasses and goggles.

Thanks for commenting Brett. A lot of modern rubbish, filled the bin twice over haha. There was a huge flood roughly 50 years ago, which left a thick deposits of soil and silt under the house. So nothing old was found unfortunately.

Surprised you didn't get the detector out to check under the old floors - so were you reusing the old boards or selling them? Have you found anything interesting - apart from the original weatherboards?

There was a large deposit of river silt under the floor, from a flood roughly 50 years ago... this was 30cm thick. There was also heaps of modern rubbish unfortunately. The original floors will be used as decking boards, and any that remain will be sold/donated. I found that the hearth below one of the kitchen fuel stove was actually a huge sandstone slab, seemingly salvaged from an older building (it had decorative curved edges, which were placed face down).
