My sister made me the sweetest video about this topic. She went back and found VHS footage of me as a kid making movies, narrating footage, "directing, acting and producing" little films and she put it all together in a video she surprised me with. I've been a photojournalist/videographer for almost 8 years now. We definitely show our passions as children 🥰

As a kid my brother had a chalk board in his room, I used it to teach him letter names and sounds. I also taught him shapes and cool things you could draw using simple shapes. He knew how to read and write when he entered kindergarten because I just kept teaching him everyday when I came home from school. I teach kindergarten now.

When i was a kid growing up I loved listening to music, singing and writing. I was in choir and still am (I’m 17) and I’ve written a bunch of songs but haven’t released them bc my mom don’t approve of my dream. My therapist says I’m very creative and I “know my way with words”. I would love to sing in a pub even if it’s small bc that’s what I love to do is sing. :)

That’s funny, I was the complete opposite but I’m going into a similar career field. I was terribly shy and anxious as a kid, and I lacked social skills (due to my autism). But once I trusted someone, I’d talk their ear off. I was so lonely and I wanted to be heard. I desperately craved affection and safety due to my abusive and tumultuous childhood. Now my goal is to work as a therapist for special needs kids like me. I work as a daycare teacher now. I want to help those kids learn the necessary skills that I struggled with and had to learn all on my own. I want to make sure they know I care about them, that they have somebody who can make them feel safe and loved and heard - all things I didn’t have as a kid.

This is 100% true! At 18 I was this tiny girl fresh out of high school who applied for a job as a 911 dispatcher and just one part of the hiring process was a panel interview with 5 people that had been in the field double the time I'd been alive. I don't remember what was asked but I replied that as a kid people would always question me and push me to show me emotion, break my calm composure for a minute, just react more. My mom would get annoyed that I didn't cry and gush over holidays or gifts even though I was very appreciative, I just wasn't emotive. But this demeanor is perfect for a dispatcher who never knows what's about to hit them over the phone or radio. One of the interviewers laughed and told me he was told the exact same thing as a kid so me saying this really struck him. I'm 24 now and still absolutely love dispatching.

We really need people who are called upon to be nurses because it’s not an easy job to say the least. I was an RN for 20 years and had to stop working due to health problems. I miss my job because I was good at it and was called to the profession after we helped care for my uncle who was paralyzed from the neck down in a car accident. I had to use the Fireman’s carriage to get him from the bed to his electric wheelchair when I was in my early teens. I went to nursing school when I was 19 and first became an LPN and then went back to school and became an RN when I was 27. I mainly worked in hospitals doing Medical/Surgical, and was a House Float where I wouldn’t know where I would be working until I got to the hospital. I realized how good I was at “winging it “ and did a travel nursing assignment twice. If you’re a genuinely caring person and not afraid of hard work, we desperately need nurses because many of them have quit the profession. There’s many places to work so you won’t have to work weekends and holidays and nights unless you want to. We really need people at the bedside who can handle the stress and who can learn to manage their stress in a healthy manner. It’s not an easy job but it is very fulfilling to know that you helped someone to be comforted on one of the worst days of their lives where they were in pain and have had surgery or been told that they have cancer, or you made their last hours on this Earth peaceful and managed their end of life symptoms with your care and compassion. Good luck to you and whatever you decide to do.

I always wondered about the world, even as the tiniest little toddler i was curious and learned so quick. When i was old enough to bake cookies with my grandma, the curiosity expanded to "what does every ingredient do? Why does it do that? What could i replace it with?" I watched those videos about food being made in factories and was fascinated. My other grandma would tell me stories about traditionally made food in 1960s yugoslavia countryside, drinking fresh milk and only eating meat on sundays. In quarantine i was so anxious and depressed, and only kneading fresh pasta dough seemed to calm me down. Then i wondered about gluten, how it connects into this intricate web and gives bread and pasta that amazing texture. All these experiences helped me realise that I was always meant to be a food scientist, and now I'm studying it and love every single class, lab and exam and very excited for the future.

My less obvious hints were probably my love of just watching nature. I would go outside and just watch the birds, squirrels, deer, foxes, skunks, etc. roam around and interact with the world (sometimes each other). My mother, who was in nursing school when I was a child, wrote her final paper about me in her child psychology class because I “just looked at the world differently than anyone else and always at my own pace”. I’d never intrude, the nature documentaries I watch always emphasized how much humans threaten wildlife, so I just watched and drew and wrote about it. Over 20 years later now and I’m a veterinarian. Almost like I mixed my love of nature with my mother’s love of medicine❤ I still love to take moments to sit and just watch the world happen. Harder these days with my busy schedule but sometimes I’ll sit in my car for a few extra minutes before starting it or pause before walking into the hospital just to watch life do it’s thing for a moment

odd question if you dont mind me asking but how did u get started professionally as a bench jeweller ?
@user-jw7bc1yp1n
@user-jw7bc1yp1n 11 ай бұрын
@@eira839I love this question! Okay so there are three ways you can get started: 1. go to a jewelry school 2. find someone willing to take you on as an apprentice 3. teach yourself. I went to jewelry school & got a job pretty much immediately after. The school gets contacted by people looking for bench jewelers so we’re able to get help finding a job. You’ll most likely have to move for school & your job so you’ll have to be okay with probably leaving your current home. Schools typically range from $10,000-$20,000 & last for 1-2 years. There are also studios that let you rent a workbench & usually offer classes for the individual skills. Another way to get in is through a watch making/repair school. There’s a 2 year school in Miami, I can’t remember what it’s called but they only take 6 students a year. It’s free so you won’t have to pay for tuition or materials but you still have to pay for housing. In jewelry, connections are what can make or break your career. You can’t be an island. Talk to the jewelers in your town, see if you can get a part time job helping behind the counter until you can go to school (if that’s the rout you want to take). You may not learn any bench skills but you’ll learn the administrative stuff like how to document & report gold bought from customer. If you really like that store, ask if they’ll take you on as an apprentice. It’s a big time & money commitment for them so don’t be surprised if they’re a little hesitant but it never hurts to ask. If you want to teach yourself, it’s absolutely possible but it can be really REALLY expensive. If you want to take that route, most jewelers build their own bench or buy one secondhand. There are lots of secondhand tools on eBay too but the bigger machines are going to cost your a pretty penny. Whatever you choose to do, Complete Metalsmith by Tim McCreight is a book most jewelers use as a cheer sheet throughout their entire career. It has all the basic tools & metal knowledge in one place.

Definitely don’t worry about it just yet! So many people think they know until they go down a completely different path. Most people I’ve asked this question to have said they want to be doctors, but they’re probably not all going to be doctors. It is completely fine if you don’t know yet. Some people don’t know until years into college, and you can absolutely change what you are studying once you’re in college. Just enjoy being a teenager right now, it’s much more important than knowing what you’re going to be once you’re an adult

I might sound rude but i dont know how to put a good tone through text, so sorry 😅. as someone who graduated from hs a year ago and isnt in college or studying, dont stress so much over careers. the education system puts so much emphasis on figuring out your 'calling' or your career at an extremely young age, especially in hs, for no damn reason. you cant be positively sure of what youll do for the rest of your life at age 18. The truth is that so many college students change their major at least twice, or turn out to not use or be satisfied with their major when they graduate. you wont immediately get a well paying, good schedule job when you graduate, theyre picky with their requirements. And, you can get into a good school without having to be in AP or IB classes or clubs or sports, just because you go to an ivy league, doesnt mean you automatically get the job. Very little do jobs care about grades and GPAs. If something interests you as a job/career choice, look into it (wages, locations, requirements, life styles, schedules, hardships/issues, etc.), but dont fret. were young and still experiencing life. dont let dumb and ignorant adults pressure you. youll figure life out throughout your years

I was an avid reader as a child. My mom found me in the shop once ‘reading’ a car magazine and I remember a comment about how much I wanted to read that I was willing to read a car magazine before getting whisked away and later taken to the library. What I didn’t understand at the time or have the words to express was that the layout of the page was incredibly fascinating to me (I still remember what it looked like). A year or so later I asked where the people were who were talking on the radio, and my mom being very focused on giving us life experiences, took us to the radio studio to watch the people. About two years later I developed a keen interest in a newsreader who is often hailed as an icon where I’m from. I couldn’t understand what made him important enough to be in my home and all my friends’ homes at the same time. In my five or six year old brain I concluded that it’s because he was wearing a tie. I’m a multimedia journalist now.

@@equalitythankyou3480in my country it's easy, since I'm in an art school myself I know a bit about how it works. You just apply for the job with your portfolio. Sorry if this is dumb and obvious lmao. You show them your work, if they think you're good enough, you'll get hired. You can just be visiting faculty too and need to come conduct classes twice a week. I got this information from my own art instructor, who's working at three different institutes. It's the same as being a teacher of any other subject basically, except you don't need great teaching experience or exceptional communication skills, at least in my school.

@@iamyourmother47you don't need a goal to create and express emotion! art IS humanity. I think you should pick up your medium of choice (or a new one, you never know if it will be your new favorite/inspirational) and make something. make something that feels good, release something that feels bad, and don't hold yourself to too strict standards.

As a kid I was always in the kitchen as well, not only helping out relatives but experimenting and creating my own weird stuff from scratch. And as I grew older cooking became my way to explore the world without traveling, since I lived in a very little rural village and couldn't try out different experiences and flavors. The rare times I visited a bigger town or city the first thing I would do was going to the ethnic supermarkets to stock up on ingredients I couldn't get where I lived so I could try out recipes in the following weeks. I remember the desperate searches for glutinous rice flour, mango, cardamom, cilantro, lavender, seaweed or tamarind. I would whip up meals and desserts for my friends and some of my fondest memories are of the times we all cooked together. The kitchen was my special place. So yeah, I just recently dropped everything and finally had the guts to enter the food service world after a couple very unhappy years at university and I'm the happiest I've ever been. For the first time in my life I can see a future for myself that doesn't look miserable, I'm making serious plans and I'm so excited for what's to come. I think I always knew that was the road I was supposed to take, it was already written. I just made the mistake to let other people's opinions and my own insecurities get to my head for a while. But the exact second I finally set foot in a professional kitchen my gut definitely knew I was in the right place

When I was little, my brother fainted. I was upstairs during that time and both of my parents weren’t home. My little sister called me, because she was with him. I went downstairs just to find him on the floor. Firstly, I calmed my sister down. Then I asked him questions like if he heard me, but he wasn’t conscious. I checked his breathing, his mouth (crooked or not) and heartbeat and fortunately they were fine. Also, I knew a few things about seizures (I think I read about it somewhere), so I checked if he had any symptoms. I remembered back then that sometimes when people have a low sugar level, they tend to faint (totally not speaking out of experience😅). So I looked for anything that’s easy to eat aka a banana and asked my little sister to get a chocolate milk. After I fed him the banana (tried to make him band over so he wouldn’t choke), he started to get conscious (mumbling). My brother used his arms (with support ) to drink the chocolate milk. Not long later he was able tot respond to my questions and I let him sit on a chair. I called my parents and when I was informed that my father was on his way, I went to school because I had a test 😭 For some reason he was unconscious for way too long. Afterwards, my mother told be that if someone loses consciousness for more than a few minutes, I always have to call the emergency lines. He was definitely unconscious for more than a few minutes but fortunately it ended well. I wasn’t sure about what I wanted to become later, but currently I’m trying my best to become a surgeon. Memories like this are so detailed and now that I look back, I wonder how I was able to stay calm.

As I was working out with my dad. (I wanted to be a boxer) I ended up cutting myself 6 inches down the leg. Dead front of my leg, I looked down and saw my white muscles and pink tissues sliding down my leg with the blood and everything! As my family rushed, my dad was the only adult and his anxiety was already bad (that's why I joined him to work out) so I offered to wrap myself. I also extended my foot and moved my ankle to make sure I didn't cut the wrong thing. I limped to the car, and talked my dad down and everything. Now I'm about to be a Physical Therapist

Absolutely. I used to ask this same question. I loved playing with fake food and painting. I now love cooking and making art just as I did then. I believe a lot of us are the person we will always be. We learn, and evolve but never truly change.

I was an artistic kid. None of the talent but always with the pencil and book. I draw on the walls, I love drawing on paper, I had exercise books I made into drawing book even at 8 years old. Now I'm studying to be an elementary art teacher (which is a decent career in Malaysia). Now I'm pretty much the talented art kid in my class. They'd sarround me, ask me how to draw stuff, compliment me and talk about how "talented" I am. It feels so fulfilling being able to get this far and being acknowledged for it too. Growing up with parents that didn't want me to do art, I never thought I get this far. I thought i'd end up being diswon, broke, untalented artist instead of "parents proud" "people see me as an art prodigy" and "financial stability while still doing what I love". It's honestly amazing. So yeah, i knew i like art but when I was 13, is when I decide to somehow make a career out of it.

At 5 years old I KNEW I was going to be a nurse “someday.” I would play with a Gray’s Anatomy book and flip the clear plastic pages of systems; (skeletal, muscles, veins, arteries, skin) over again to see how each body system was built in the human body. Years later, after many different jobs, trials and errors, I started nursing school at 31 years old. It totally changed my life and the life of my family. It was something I should’ve done all along but I needed the 25 years before I got there to learn about myself, the world and how things worked before I could settle down and pay attention to my life’s dream. Three nursing degrees and 30 years later - I’m still as happy as a clam! Nursing was good to me all these years. It afforded me a life beyond my wildest dreams! The ppl skills I have that help so many came from the “trial” years. Absolutely nothing we experience in God’s realm is wasted! ❤🙏🏼

I wrote my first short story when I was 6 and I loved to play "classroom/teacher and student" with my friends on sleepovers. I'm a 2nd year college student now studying English Honours for my bachelor's degree aiming to be an English proffesor and I already have a self published book of poems. I'm pretty proud of what I've done and am about to do in my life ❤

This is so true! As a kid I was always playing "English teacher" by giving my sister and my mom spelling bees during commercials when we'd watch TV as a family, and I would always be "writing a novel" in my little notebooks as a child. I would annoyingly correct people on improper word usage all the time in my youth too (I was insufferable LOL) and now I'm a professional editor! I've had several moments in the past year or two going "... How did I not know I should do something with language..?" haha. It's so funny how we miss these things.

@@buckshot1488 I'm a freelance literary editor! So I do just about everything, as long as it has to do with the English language. :) I'm a huge nerd so I love being able to do stuff for fiction authors, but I also do some writing for hotel companies and data entry/proofreading, or stylistic like consistency and flow for world settings for people who are creating them for novels, games, TTRPGs, etc.! It's hard to pay the bills sometimes because freelance is its own mountain of problems with inconsistency, but I'm super happy with what I do!

I got a toy microscope (it worked normally, but the magnifications were pretty small) when I was a kid. Plus in 4th grade we had a task to observe a monogenic trait in our family (it's been since disproven as of genetic only) so I walked around family members and pestered them. Now I'm a medical lab scientist. So yeah, fairly obvious.

Due to reasons, my mom didn't really have that much emotional bonding time with me and my younger brother as kids. I would read his night time stories and put him to bed, sort of. I also loved reading and reading to people, which still holds true in my job as a daycare nurse. Taking that path was actually a surprising turn for what I had planned for my future as a teen, as I wanted to study psychology, didn't really think of going into a job where I would be confronted with a lot of people (as I had been really introverted and awkward) and didn't have a lot of contact with kids since there were none in my extended family. But as I'm writing this, I realise that the joy of little things I have come to appreciate such as teaching a kid how to tie a knot so he can hang up his drawing himself and seeing how proud he was of that, has rather been rediscovered within me (and any person). Though I do remember learning about how a nuclear explosion comes to be in a science show and then telling a friend jn great detail about it at a birthday party may have also been a little hint about liking to teach:)
