Nice! My family has an heirloom pumpkin cake recipe not too different. It does call for the buttercream type of cream cheese frosting, but I'd love to try making this kind of frosting sometime since I don't like overly thick frosting, either. It looks like it wouldn't be incredibly sweet frosting based on the proportions of the recipe, which is always nice, too. (I have sort of a love-hate relationship with frosting lol.)

I think there are many egg substitutes such as flax seed egg or apple sauce. I've never tried any however so I'd recommend doing some additional research!
