Hi nate, im about to get 2 female german sheperd/husky mix and i love your training tutorials! Do you have any tips to make the females be friendly with each other since people say the y most likely will fight. P.S. They are going to be 7 weeks old
@NateSchoemer4 жыл бұрын
They should be fine if you get them as puppies and they grow up together. However, they can still end up fighting with each other, just like kids do. Just be sure to feed them separately and don't leave toys out when you're not supervising them. Often when dogs that live together fight, it's because they are fighting for food, toys, or attention. I hope that helps. Cheers!

How do we get our dog to stop chomping (letting go) and start locking on the jute when training?
@NateSchoemer4 жыл бұрын
Have your pup on a back-tie and be sure to keep the toy active when the pup is biting the toy. If the pup lets go, then tease him with the toy. This will build frustration and make the dog want to hold on more. You can see a small example of this in my barking video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fpa5iICZrMeZZ9k

Hey Nate, I picked up 7-month Rotti at the Humane Society 2 weeks ago. He apparently had some training. He always seems to have his nose against my hand but not sniffing or licking. Apparently, the original owners may have used this type of training method. I'm assuming he will stop nosing my hand as we progress using this training method? I've used clicker training on my German Shepherd and Rotti that I had but that gets faded away with YES as a reward and quick pet and or playing tug. What I see here is hand is used to lure and mark what you are looking for. Similar to a clicker but yet a little different style. Clicker marks than reward with kibble. Clicker gets phased out. The hand is always there. How do you get them to stop focusing on the hand so much? It works so I am using it. The only thing I can think of is phasing the hand away using the reward such as a toy and keep hand out of reach, arms crossed or in pockets. As it stands right now is that when I throw a kibble about 4-5 feet pointing where it is at, he stops at my hand looking for something. We are starting to work this out but it is taking a little time. Seems to be a lot of focus on the hand all the time. So the point is, how do you phase out the hand completely other than using it to direct a command? This is the first video of yours I've seen and it deserves a big thumbs up. Perhaps you have a video on phasing out the hand? I like this style. I will come back and see more. If the others are as good as this one, I will share them on places like Facebook and e-mail.

so how many hours of training does it take to get consistent behavior thru shaping and luring? Ok, yes, I know my dog has rear end control issues. But its difficult still to get her to remain close (mediocre dog, not good, forget great, but LOTS of fun)
@NateSchoemer3 жыл бұрын
There're too many variables to give an estimated time of training required. Each dog will learn at a different speed, not to mention the trainer's skill will affect the speed of the training as well.

What age did you start training you dogs; what brands dog food do you feed your dog
@NateSchoemer4 жыл бұрын
I start training them when they are 8 weeks of age and I use mealtime as training time. Meaning, I make the dog/puppy work for every bite. When they work for it, it increases the value of the food. With a puppy, I will often start with a high-quality dry food during the training process. I also usually give the puppy raw goat milk from answers, to help ensure the dog is getting enough quality nutrition. In addition, I train with freeze-dried dog food, but that can be very pricey. Usually, a high-quality kibble will be okay. I transition them to raw when all the main training is completed. However, I do continue to train the dog for the entire life of the dog. It’s just as important and playing and bonding. Lastly, you can use dogfoodadvisor.com to help you pick the right brand for your pup. I hope that helps and if possible, consider supporting my channel. Thanks! :) www.patreon.com/NateSchoemer

Is there a reason she isn't marking the behaviors when she is starting the session with heel, sit, down etc?
@NateSchoemer4 жыл бұрын
When we are trying to capture a behavior in a dogs mind we have to reward them with either the primary (food, toy, affection) or the conditioned (Marker) reinforcer within the first second. If you are able to deliver the primary in the first second, then you don't have to mark. :)

One way you can teach it is to condition a double or triple tap working level on the e collar or clicker for the desired position then layer it with timing as in indicator.

What do I do when my dog doesn’t seem to care about praise, food, or toys? She is a lab that is 2 years old and hasn’t had much training so she will look at me but doesn’t want to follow a lead with treats or praise or toys...
@NateSchoemer3 жыл бұрын
Either leash pressure training: kzbin.info/www/bejne/b32bpX5torh3Z5I Or build your dogs food drive. Here's a small section from my dog training manual, that I believe will be helpful. Before we start training our dogs, we must know what motivates them. With any dog I start training, I like to begin with food and luring. Now, something I’m often asked by people is, “How do I train my dog when my dog doesn’t have any food motivation?” First, let me start by saying that every dog has food motivation, what varies is how intense the food motivation is. If you have a dog with low food motivation, there are techniques that you can use to increase that food drive. Most dog’s low food motivation is caused by a few things: Either the dog has been overfed, free-fed, given very high value food such as cooked steak, or sometimes just feeding out of a bowl can cause this. As a result, the dog just doesn’t care that much about getting fed as a reward. A common technique that we like to use to correct a lack of food drive is food deprivation. For this you will want to use mealtime as a training time. Bring the dog out and offer food to train, if the dog is not interested, no big deal, put the food away and try again at dinner Again, if the dog is not interested, put the food away and try again the next day. Continue to do this until your dog is willing to work for the food. Be sure not to give the dog any food between training. The dog has to know that he will only get food that he works for. I’ve used this technique on dozens of dogs and it’s worked every time.
