Similar concerns with my 4 year old dog and the 8 month puppy I have just re-homed. My older dog is very gentle but gets frustrated with the puppy. Trying to do what you are suggesting here. Sometimes the older dog drags the puppies bed outside - pretty funny. I do worry about crating the puppy too much though - I let him out pretty often for some brief training or play. Tricky finding the right balance.

Thanks for the reply even though it is 5 or 6 weeks late. Keeping them apart was not working because of actually they'd have to be together. I take them for walks and do things in the park and he would do it everywhere. The final straw was when he almost drowned my old dog when I took them swimming. Because he was attacking him even in the water bringing him under. Didnt want to use the towel And I don't need to anymore. I only hit him 2 times with the towel. I knew and he would attack by the look in his eyes and I would say no just as he would lunge. For the next week or so all I had to do was show him the towel and he found something else to do. Like I said it's not something I wanted to do but I could not let this go on. My old dog has Arthritis, Which is why couldn't be jumping on his back, But they play like puppies now.

kickn-aDead-cat ... the pup needs to learn No ASAP. Suggest a slip lead on the pup with a leash pop w a No as Robert describes elsewhere ... repeat as necessary. You might combine this w a flexible hose or riding crop to gently but firmly push the pup away.

Hello Robert I have 15 month old mix breed golder retiever/sheppard rescue dog. I have her 6 weeks. She is very kind and submissive. At first she was scared and did nothing but lay in the corner. Now she is playfull, walks nicely on the leash, not scared in traffic anymore. I started training with the basics a couple of weeks ago, sit, lay down, stay wich goes OK but when she doesn't understand what I want she shuts down. Either sits and doesnt look at me, or goes away to a corner. I try to keep the same tone in the commands, I don't get frustrated or angry. I try to keep everything fun and playfull. What do I need to do when she shuts down? Or do I need to stop the training sooner so she won't?Thank you very much. Benny.

I have 4 Shelties, my 4 y/o Alfa is obsessed with the 2 year old pup. He goes wherever the younger one goes, controls him, plays with him, stares at him nonstop. His anxiety is off the charts, the younger one doesn’t care that much but it’s sad to see my oldest with no personality except focusing on the other dog. Please help!

Do you believe in e collar training ? What do you think about the company off leash K9 training they seem to have great results. We have a 3 month old Great Dane and we really want to get her obedient and discipline and we fear we are being a bit loose with her. Any advice ?

Having trouble with 8 yr old weim and 5 month old weim. 8 year old has her own get away-needs a break room, but puppy will not stop jumping on her for months now. We are consistently disciplining puppy. Telling her she is bad and making her sit and stay away from her. 8 year old runs to her safe place. It’s just an awful situation! It’s aggravating for All! Any suggestions please?

I'm about to take a 15 month old German Shepherd that is a moose hes bigger than my full grown Male pyrenees. I live in the country on 20 acres and have a little dog training experience but its limited. Hes been over several times and plays with my male and female pyrenees and my male isn't aggressive at all my female is almost 2 is more aggressive than the male but I dont see that being a problem I just dont know where to start or what would be the best first thing to start and stay consistent with him cause he hasn't had any discipline and is full of energy. Any advice or great books to read or videos of yours to watch or any others would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I have a 3 year old female German Shepard,American Staffordshire Terrier, Eskimo,Australia Cattle dog with a little lab thrown in the mix, DNA tested, she listens well and is very smart has been through obedience school and we practice a little every day to keep up skills. We have owned strong willed dogs in the past. So we are not without some knowledge but we are having an issue with her and any delivery trucks, mail person,or other dogs being walked outside of our house. I know she guarding her house and pack. She rarely has issues with other dogs outside of the home. Only when another dog becomes aggressive towards her, she gets a little mouthy, but we quickly move her out of the situation and de-escalate. We can go out to eat or walk downtown, always on leash, she listens well and has proper behavior. But as soon as one of these truck etc. drives down our street, She becomes so focused on what going on and will not listen to us. Barking, jumping on the window and once ran down the driveway into the street. It is not possible to keep her fenced in because of how the property is, she never goes outside without someone being out with her, We have tried distracting, crateing, grabbing her by the scruff of her neck and telling her to leave it, we do not believe in hitting a dog, but it’s so random when these delivery trucks come and the event happens, (but it’s daily) She is properly crate trained and likes going in there, she prefers to sleep in it at night . We are considering the use of an electric collar as an aid? Could you recommend some videos or books, for proper training or if you have any other suggestions I would greatly appreciate them. Thanks

I would make her sleeping area smaller. Get rid of the news paper altogether leave just the bed. You may have to schedule midnight alarms to get up with the pup for a few weeks until she gets it. At 11 weeks your puppy is still learning where to pee and poop and has little to no bladder control, like a human baby...be patient and consistent.

My older dog is a 7 year old female siberian husky Puppy is a 9 week old german shepherd, girl Old dog is a male mini schnauzer, I think he's 11 going 12 Puppy is submissive to the husky outside, but inside she tries to Puppy bite her, husky hates that so I'm doing your advice, Puppy seems to understand that the husky is higher than her in ranking But she is going to be bigger than the schnauzer in a couple of weeks so clock is ticking, Puppy doesn't seem to respect the old dog. Is it because he's small? I need her to stop yet the neck thing is not working, she can hurt him in a couple of weeks since she will be a large dog

I’m the guy that Robert was talking to for this video. No matter what I did he would not stop jumping and biting my old dog. He almost drowned my old dog when I took them swimming because he would jump on his back biting him and dragging him under. And the old guy has arthritis so jumping on his back is not doing any good. Grabbing him by the scruff of the neck and shaking did nothing he went right back to it. I can’t keep them separated constantly. So I used the towel wrapped up. I only had to do it a few times in the next few days but it worked. Now if I see him getting into that mood all I have to do is show him that towel. It only took a few days and now they play like puppies. It may not be the preferred method but if my old dog could talk, he’d say thank you.

@@kicknadeadcat please can you explain this towel method in detail it would be a really majestic help sir..please let me know
@kicknadeadcat5 жыл бұрын
Anuj Budholia its not rocket science. Roll up a towel, put rubber bands on each end to hold it together. Timing is important. When you see he about to attack, calmly saw no, then hit him in head head with it. If he is already doing it you can still do it. But stoping them before start seems best. This also works for excessive barking in crate. I just hit the crate with the towel, not the dog. Like I said I only needed it for a short time. What I think is, the dog doesn’t understand he is doing something wrong until something extreme happens. Now 5 weeks later, All I need is no or stop what word you decide to use. The other thing I got to stop immediately was his jumping from couch to couch like a maniac. I just needed to show him the towel and say off. He is still aloud on the couch but only in a certain section but no jumping and running on it. He is one of the smartest dogs I have owned. Knows all the basic commands, now working on recall from long distances with e collar. So far he has gone 100 yards and recalled.
