What a sweet moment when your adult dog takes the rope toy to your puppy to coax him to play again! Good dogs train puppies so much quicker than people 💕🥰

I just found your channel and I HOPE you continue doing videos!! We just had to put down our 11 year old English Bulldog who was a rescue at 5 years old. She was unfortunately a "mommy puppy mill" and first week she had to have 2 surgeries, one to fix her eyes and one was optional but I felt necessary and that was to have her fixed. The vet thought so also. We are now looking at getting a Standard Poodle. I have always loved this breed and could tell you so much about this breed but I know it's nothing like living with one. I cannot wait to learn all about living with a Poodle! The fear of Addison's is real but we are looking at several breeders, so hopefully he or she will be healthy and happy! We also have a lot of experience with unhealthy or sick dogs and taking care of them. They are family, so we will deal with whatever comes our way, good and the bad. Thankfully I am lucky enough to be able to be home every day, so that will be a blessing! I know Poodles will require a TON of training...which is why I am here!! I look forward to seeing more videos! You make such interesting and helpful videos...really, really good!! Thank you again! (sorry for the novel of a comment!)

Another great video! You are one of my favorite KZbinrs for sure. I recently adopted a GSD/Border Collie mix, she's 5-months-old. Your videos have been very helpful for me and Stella. I am just starting out my dog training channel with her and really look up to you as a trainer. Thanks for all your help!

Love this! Luckily, we live in an area where so many things go on... it has a school bus stop, a church, a park, busy streets, and trains... so we sit on our balcony at least 2 times a day. I hope this really helps him.

I really enjoy the information you provide and thank you for the continued videos - Tho this one seems a bit biased toward breeders and there were some negative, and I feel, unneeded comments about adopting shelter or rescue dogs. Rescued, should be a favorite breed. Mutt, should be a favorite breed. After all, we’re the ones responsible for their current situation. Just food for thought as there are tons of benefits to having a mutt. Lots of people look to you for guidance and the first part of the video where you cover adoptions from rescues or shelters, whether your negativity was intentional or not, I do not know, as you then go on to encourage adopting from a shelter or rescue, but it certainly had an effect on me that made me questioned whether or not I wanted to keep watching. But again, the majority of your stuff is really fantastic and appreciated.

This is a really great video, and not the first of yours I've seen (I've watched quite a few so far). But you seem to cover how to start training very young pups correctly, and the situation I find myself in doesn't really apply to that. We took in a 5 month old (almost 6) border collie pup who was on her way to being dropped off at the local kill shelter. The owner called her "untrainable", which I figured just meant he didn't know what he was doing. So now she's older, has developed bad habits (obsessing over the cats, tearing up carpet, chewing on baseboards) and the worst one of all - she's completely not house trained. She is used to her kennel though, and sleeps there at night just fine. The other things I know come with giving her enough things to do, working with her daily, and I know they'll take time. But everything I used to house train our other dogs (we currently have two older dogs, a husky lab mix and a shepherd lab mix, both adopted as puppies) isn't working with her. She's capable of holding it in because she never goes in her kennel at night, but no matter how long I take her outside for she won't go, and the second I take her back inside she goes. I've got her on a feeding schedule, as I do the other dogs, and now find myself putting her outside every 30 minutes. In for 30, out for 30, because I never know when she's going to try and go, and STILL without fail she chooses to go in the house. A friend suggested to put her back in her kennel if she didn't go outside, and to try again an hour or so later. It seems like it might work, but I worry putting her in her kennel so much will just cause more problems. And I don't want her locked up all the time. Is the kennel trick worth trying on her? ANYTHING would be such a huge help!

I rescued a CBR/Lab mix from an abusive owner several years ago. The dog spent her first 18 months tied to a tree and was never able to fully socialize until finally her owner wanted to either put her down and drop her on a corner. I took her right away.. It took several years but she became a great girl who would go anywhere I went and knew all her commands. she was great with people, calm and serene. Her only issue was she was never able to accept other dogs, but I was able to deal with that. It took a lot of work and patience but I had a great friend and never regretted my choice to rescue. Sadly, I had to put her down last month at 15.5 years of age. I did just rescue a 2 month old black lab mix this week so I am restarting this journey. I am getting her DNA tested to see what her mix is and possible health issues. Do you have any advice on DNA tests for dogs?

Can you post a link to the chart you used, i could not see it. Yes those teen years, the aliens have come and traded pups. I will tell you i have decades of training and rescuing all sorts of dogs and when I started training my service dog a aussie shepherd/border collie from a working cattle farm I learned a whole knew meaning to the teen years. She is smart and knows her stuff, but she has me and i am as stubborn as she and my family likes to tire here so it works, but they are not for the average dog owner, not even close. Either breed or the cross, and she is super silly and friendly but some teen that is a ton of work, can't wait til it passes and i am trying to savor it, but some days those butterflies start flying around in that brain and the eyes start spinning, watch out, God only knows what she will do, it is better each day but ---wow. Also dog parks are not suitable for SDs you have to check them out a few times before using to be safe with what is there. Can you do more with working dog breeds? Luna is super cute with Mookie. Blessings.

What if my new B.C. pup doesn't leave my 2 much older dachshunds alone. Wants to play with them, but literally will NOT give them one second to breathe, by running circles around them and constantly licking their mouths. Even when she's growled at or nipped at. We've only had her for week, and our dachshunds don't even want to be around her at this point. She's only12 weeks old.

there was a documentary done about aggression and it proves that it has nothing to do with the parents. they showed how out of every litter there can be puppies that are more aggressive than others. they even went as far as trying to breed non aggressive dog with other no aggressive one and they still ended up with a few aggressive one in the litter. they did the same with the more aggressive one and the results were the same, they said it doesn't make any difference how the parents were its not bread into them it is just the way it works you get some that are good & some that are not. This study has been going on for over 20 years now.

Great video! Isn't it better to step in before dogs escalate their corrections? Otherwise the pup will learn to back off only with a large correction, which not all annoyed dogs are capable of, while the dog who's being annoyed will learn to immediately react in extreme ways. I would have redirected the 6 mo pit after his first unrequited attempt, since Luna was very clearly telling him to go away. If you dont intervene, then you get dogs who think its ok to harass other dogs at dog parks, and owners who think they should just let the dogs work it out.

Daria Rylkova if you know the dog that your puppy is playing with, and you know they won't harm them, then let them correct the puppy. If you don't know the dog, I would step in before. It's extremely beneficial to have a dog with good communication skills to tell the puppy what isn't tolerated, then the pup can try again, finding a more suitable behaviour.

Kristin Crestejo, CDBC Sorry, but in the example you showed, Luna and the other female had to escalate their behavior multiple times. I understand that you trust Luna, but how will the puppy learn to get the message just based on Luna turning her head away, which is what should happen. When I adopted my puppy almost a year ago, I read (ASPCA, Patricia McConnell etc) that it isnt good to let your puppy annoy your older dog, especially if the dog is tolerant, because the puppy will learn that it's acceptable behavior and get into trouble with dogs who have a much lower threshold for an aggressive vs a "teaching" snap. It seems like the more prevalent myth is that dogs should be allowed to work things out, which takes away responsibility from handlers. Imho, it would be good emphasize the role of people in dog-dog socialization & studying up on dog body language, like your videos, which I found very helpful :-).
@Krissykris1468

Daria Rylkova there were not multiple corrections. One from the brindle female and one from Luna, then he stopped. And yes, you don't want to allow a puppy to annoy dogs, but when we know all the dogs and we know they have bite inhibition, good communication, I don't feel there is any negative take away for the puppy. There are cases where pups are overly corrected the first time and this can lead to confusion. But as you saw in the clip, Luna avoided him and walked away, where he continued to pester. I think it's important for them to learn from other dogs, but it needs to be minor corrections as you saw, no fur or skin pulling , holding on, etc. Just lots of noise!

@@dariarylkova5720 I 100% agree with you, sorry Kristin I still love your channel though for the most part you do give lots a great information. At least she did not reward the behavior of the older dogs. I personally do not allow my Ruby to get snippy with any dog puppy or adult. How ever older dogs should be taught a safe zone. Where no play is allowed so if the puppy does get to annoying they can go to that instead of being snippy.The puppy was not harming the older dogs and the older dogs need to learn not to be snippy. Because if they get snippy with the wrong dog it will result in a fight. Like with my Ruby. She will play all day long with dogs at the dog park and even play tug with them, How ever if a dog gets snippy with her she does not like that one bit. I would never bring my Ruby around her dogs.
