for the strike double lift that he mentions at 2:37, you want to shift the deck so its like an angle, making it easier to find two cards. for the push-off you do it by sight, not by feeling it. but double lifts are hard and take practice, no matter how easy youtube guys make it seem. just keep working at it, you'll get it eventually.

I totally disagree. with the push off double lift you can absolutely develop a feel where you don't have to look anymore.

I would like to personally thank you for this tutorial. I have been doing magic for about three months now and I could not master the double lift! It looked sloppy and I have messed up many times. I have mastered yours, and not only does it look natural, it feels natural, and my performances have been much improved! Thank you.

doing magic for three months can't "master" any sleight. dont think you need to master any move. the idea is to fool your spectator. lifts have to be integrated into a routine. with good storytelling and misdirection, you can get away with a lift without it being completely invisible. you just have to make every move deliberate and maintain eye contact especially if theyre watching your hands a lot. only thing to keep in mind: however you flip over one card on top of the deck MUST be the same exact way you do a double, triple, or quadruple lift. keep it natural and keep it simple.

A superb video on the double lift. It is clear and concise. It demonstrates not only the fundamental manipulations for an excellent double lift, but also shows many fine details not usually addressed. The video and audio qualities are excellent. Liked and subscribed.

I would recommend learning both a fancy double lift (such as this one) and a simple one (such as the strike or instantaneous double lift). The type of double lift you use really depends on context. If I'm going to do a double lift just for a quick flash, I think it's nice to be a little fancy with it. Of course, I wouldn't use this double lift throughout an entire ambitious card routine. I wouldn't say the Push Off double lift is bad or great, but depends on how you choose to use it

When doing the variation described at 8:34 (when you have a break), I recommend still making the push off motion with the left thumb. It looks more natural as though you're dealing the top card over. And above all, practice, practice, practice until your DL looks natural. This is a workhorse sleight you'll use for the rest of your life. We can't afford to be sloppy and expose this or we lose a priceless tool. Treat it accordingly. This tutorial, while a tad frantic, is very useful. Well done.

Gotta keep your eye on the cards, you can visually see where the two cards are... and if you pick up three, just say "oops, picked up two" then when you pick up two, it actually looks more like you picked up one

amazing video man. i literally watched this a couple hours ago and have already developed a brand new (well modified) trick which takes advantage of this amazingly subtle lift. and it doesn't matter if i accidentally lift 3 cards as i'm not great at this lift yet. thanks for the post

I used Brad Christians tutorial... At first I really struggled with this DL, and was very frustrated. The secret is very minimal pressure and practice daily. It took me about 4 weeks. Deck of cards in front of tv, over and over and over. What happens eventually is you are able to sensitise your thumb tip, so that you do actually feel two cards. I guess it's so hard initially because it's just not something we have trained to do. My first efforts were about 10% successful but now 95%. Persevere!

As a magician who has small hands, i find that the best way to do a double lift is to get at least good (6 out of 10 skill rating) and master verbal misdirection. If no one is looking at your hands at all, you can do anything you want invisibly. Though mastering the double lift while people are watching is a mile stone in becoming a great magician, beginners need to keep eyes from locking on their hands. Just my two copper.

Double lift is a hard one, but I will keep at it. Nice little move you did at 0:07 . I am new to this cardmagic, where should a complete beginner start? I learned some fake shuffles so far. I feel like a general feel and control of the deck is needed before I even think about fooling anyone...

Kammagic is a great with card magic. Maybe the best on youtube, but his double lift is second best to this one, no question about it. I'm not talking execution, I'm talking method. Kam executes his DL so well it hardly matters, but this is the definitive push off DL, and THE most natural looking.

I personaly prefer the strike double lift for one reason, it's not as fancy as the push off double lift. This relies heavily on presentation style, however if you normally don't do many flourishes and/or use a normal way to turn over one card some observant laymen might figure you out because it's suddenly a new way to turn over the card, so you should really learn some other fancy ways of turning over the top card.

how do you get two cards consistently? I'm new to magic and have been practicing this double lift a lot, and although most of the time I can manage to spot two cards fairly quickly, there are times where I'll go to peel down cards and I'll get clumps or one card will slide down and the rest will stick. it'll look pretty shitty if I'm in the middle of a trick and then start fumbling with the top card or spend too much time just going to flip over a card. any tips for getting two cards consistently? btw your videos are awesome man, I've been learning a lot from your tutorials and stuff. keep up the good work

I've always had problems with the double-lift and this really helped me.However it's not so natural to show a card like that tbh. So instead of pushing with the thumb push it DOWN with your index finger (while in mehanics grip) And just feel two cards and flip them over.

just one tip on the double lift, the way you flip the cards back on the deck is too quick, too noisy and unnatural. you should just let the card slide off to the side then just give it a little push and they won't separate. , that's just my opinion. Also, i think you should check out daryl's double lift, it's a really good one imo. Anyway, that's just some constructive criticism that i hope will help you :)

That thing about breaking your wrist to turn the card over. That's the thing I see that I most hate about people doing the DL. It's a common error I think for beginners. You don't have to do that. You can just push it with your finger and let gravity work it's magic.

Was having trouble with the "standard"(?) double, so I came up with one of my own ... and IT'S THE SAME AS YOURS! Freaky, right? Maybe we're brothers from another mother? Prob'ly not, as I am 57 years old. Oh well, it is just happy coincidence then. Anyway, I don't have experience actually performing this lift in front of people and I'm assuming (always dangerous) that you do, and that since you're teaching it, I further assume (see earlier) that it does in fact work. Anybody else out there perform a double this way?

The reason I hate sleights like this is because the cards never want to cooperate. I can't get the cards to stay together. The motion is good, but as soon as I flip the card, it sometimes slips off of one another and there's nothing I can do to help that. Are you just using a worn deck? Because trying this with a new deck would be near impossible without screwing up.

Nicely done. But please, let gravity take the double back down to the desk...i.e., flip it back down with your fingertips, instead of grabbing hold of the two and then holding the two all the way back to the surface. Your pickup is nice...your turnover, not so much. Just a tip.
