@@RobDahm R5 can do a lot more than you will ever need hopefully its better to over build and not utilize it 100% than underbuild and use 110%, I know on my Elite 2500 we have it set up to where I can put 87 in and it will pull timing and boost keeping the car safe from knock on bad fuel but if you throw in some e90 and fill the water meth, the ECU knows the octane rating (flex fuel) as well as the level in the meth tank and will put in more ignition and boost blending the maps together keeping it basically stupid proof. Gotta love having all the inputs and outputs as well as safeties.

Sterling you are so right. The amount of programming i can do to the ECU is jaw dropping. Its so customizable you definitely need a plan or goal before jumping into it. When you hear the car breaking up, haltech found that i enabled rally style antilag while testing features. Completely forgot about it haha. But its impressive what all it can do!

@@RobDahm Definitely especially running a rotary, most people don't realize that exactly how many inputs and outputs you need. In your case with the sheer amount of injectors, ignition and sensors you would saturate 90% of ecus out there and would probably have to use 2 2500s from haltech to run the engine properly. The r5 was by far the best choice for the build. Cant wait to see you dive further into it and squeeze all the potential you can out of it. The boys over at Haltech are gems have had multiple hour long conversations over the phone brainstorming ways to use their ecus as well as troubleshooting.

Holy fucking jesus christ. That's it. Done. This is my favorite build ever. The sound this thing makes is just absolutely otherworldly. I had a massive grin on my face during those straight pulls and during that popping when it was stuck at redline. Also, I'm not surprised you can hear this thing from so far. I used to work at the local airport at an expediting company that was beside the runway. 3 or 4 Kilometers away is our local racetrack and I remember being able to hear the drifting and sprint car racing from over the farmers fields. The only difference is that I could just faintly hear the echo, but your RX7 sounded like it was literally on the other side of those houses from the filmer. The fact you could pick out the minute details of the shifting from so far is absolutely nutty. I wonder what kind of dB that thing produces, it actually might be unsafely loud.

Hey Rob, glad to see you finally got the car on track. I got a few ideas: 1) Invest in wheel-speed sensors and have a look at your differential ramp settings. I noticed on launching, you spun the right front, but none of the other wheels - suggesting something might be up with the clutches or the ramps. It was definitely open on the front, putting the available power to the front right wheel, and not the other tyres which had available grip. 2) Invest in suspension travel potentiometers. You're getting to a point where you say: "The car has very predictable handling", but, coming from a performance job in F1, you need data of your suspension before you adjust any sort of spring rate or bump/rebound settings. Remember, you're nowhere near the limit. You are clearly excited, and so am I to follow the build, but "it's not my driving it's the car" - you're not a professional racing driver as much as you hate to hear it - and neither am I! We all have our limits and you're building an extremely complex car. Stay humble man. 3) Why on Earth are you engaging neutral when braking after acceleration, and then shifting down? You will shear the teeth off your gears in no time if you don't stop doing that. You're running straight-cut gears with a sequential transmission. On upshifts it should be a simple ignition cut and throttle lift (ECU-dependant with drive-by-wire), but on down-shifts you should manually blip the throttle or program one in your ECU. You unsettle the entire car by pulling the clutch, removing the feel of the road by rolling. You suddenly have no engine braking stabilising the front and rear differentials and you're gonna spin on entry, when you eventually let the clutch in again as the wheels are not spinning at the same speed as your engine when disengaging the clutch. And if I can ask a personal favour; it is called LOAD transfer. Not weight transfer. This is a basic principle in physics, and a pro-tip is if anybody from real motorsport hear you say "weight transfer" they will immediately know you're not a serious engineer or racing driver, as you evidently don't know the difference. Best of luck with the build, excited to see where it goes - just a few ideas from a guy who designs, builds, tunes and analyses F1 cars for a living.

I'm loving the content of the 4 rotor, finally after so many years of on and off the car finally drives! But that next suggestion may be harsh. The best way to improve your driving skill would be by driving a slow car fast, not adapting yourself to a fast car. Get something like another RX-8 (if you wanna stay rotary. Otherwise... a BRZ like i've got is hard to beat), no more power than this, with tires, suspension and brakes. Learn to push it, learn to lose it. I'm confident you would improve faster than by wrestling 400 to 1000hp cars on the track. (thinking about it, running lower boost on the FC would be fine too. learn to corner and brake before enjoying straight line speed, if you want to be at ease for circuit racing!) Apart from that.. congrats on the million subs daddy Dahm. It's deserved, you've pushed hard to get that 4 roturd running ;)

looks like youre hitting the bumpstops, so going with stiffer springs or a "stiffer" exchange ratio on the suspension arms would help with going around corners and not tearing the jack points down. also, its a bit hard to tell but it looks like theres positive camber in the rear which i dont recommend unless youre exclusively drifting.

He also mentioned in recent videos that the suspension is currently "falling rate", meaning the more it compresses, the softer it gets. Not ideal! I imagine that's on the list to revise.

Also, phosphoric acid on the surface rust will convert it to black oxide coating that's ready for paint or just lightly protect it. It will not eat bare metal unlike muratic acid which will continue to eat until neutralized.

1985 Audi Sport Quattro, still my favorite sounding piston engine and AutoTopNL has a good video on one if you're curious but yeah as far as pure, raw sound, Robs 4 rotor is up there. Ken Block also has a vid out on the Audi.

Let me just say you’re the most genuine and humble KZbinr I have ever met. I went up to get a picture with you on the last day (Sunday) while you were walking back from the pits. You were more then happy too and also engaged in conversation (unlike almost every other KZbinr). You talked to my friend and I as if we weren’t your fans, but as if we were your friends. You went very deep into detail on how the car had improved over the weekend, which was really cool and not something you usually get from famous people. Not to mention your mood, I swear you were smiling and upbeat the whole entire weekend. Really an amazing car to see in person, video does it absolutely zero justice, it is ear piercing, and those pops between shifts rattle your entire chest. Thanks for being such a cool guy!

It’s really cool to see Rob finally getting to enjoy all the hard work he put in to build this car and for having to deal with all the trolls over the years that said it couldn’t be done and he would never finish it. Yeah I know it’s technically still not finished but at this point it’s not gonna take to much to get it finished and besides that,anyone that’s ever built a custom car like this will tell you that it’s never finished and will always be a work in progress.

I know there are probably thousands of comments here and my comment will probably go unnoticed but thank you Rob for giving rotary a chance and proving everybody wrong. The 1M subs is just the icing on the cake, but nevertheless its crazy to see your journey with the 4 rotor from being stolen right up till now. I know I might never have the chance to build or drive a rotary like you do, but in the off chance I could I wanna build a 4 rotor just like yours and follow in your footsteps. I don't think there are any 4 rotors yet in Malaysia (could be wrong) but I wanna be the first and enjoy driving an F1 sounding car on the street! Looking forward to your future endeavours and maybe one day I'll get to see you in person somehow, I honestly think you are the most realest KZbinr and have the best car content on KZbin second to none. 🙏

I live 2 miles from Pacific Raceways in Washington State and I can hear the NHRA Top Fuel cars over my television. To be able to be heard from that kind of a distance is insane Rob, you're playing with the big boys lol.
