When I was a young far suburbanite and working with a construction crew in Chicago, I had the privilege of driving the company truck a half hour before lunch to pickup food for the guys from random places. One time they sent me to a restaurant to get everyone Chicago Style Dogs and they all said "Make sure all the dogs have ketchup on them or don't come back". When I placed the order, the guy at the place inflated his eyeballs and I thought he was going to kill me. I explained that ketchup was a must and I can not go back without it or the guys will be pissed. This old brickhead had no idea the guys were fucking with me. He angrily put his hand under the counter and shoved a handful of catchup packets in the bag and told me never to come back. This was over 20 years ago and I will never forget that day.

I would add a few of my own: riding a bike on the sidewalk, people taking their sweet time getting on/off public transportation (not knowing their exit) , people trying to exit a CTA bus at the front, wearing a Sox shirt/jersey around Wrigleyville, young kids coming into the city to Lollapalooza for "local culture", getting drunk/drugged at it and urinating on the ground, then saying "Well, we pay taxes so clean it up", job recruiters calling you at weird times (Sunday morning?), and some coffee shops that blast their music so loud that you can't talk or study

Well about as you said about the suburb subject it's true Even northwestern Indianans (specialty lake county IN) claim that they're from Chicago too even though they live in a different state. So another thing that I've noticed with Chicago that there two Chicago styles of pizza , the more famous one the deep dish pizza , and the lesser known Tavern-style pizza /bar pizza or Chicago style thin crust pizza , that interesting enough they cut it in squares that it also get it's name aka party cut Pizza . One huge topic that gets them pissed off on NFL is the Packers it's the biggest riverly since ever.

We call the Chicago metro area Chicagoland -- I believe the term was first coined by the Chicago Tribune. It works perfectly; when I say, "I'm from Chicagoland," city residents know I'm not from Chicago proper, and when I'm travelling, people recognize where I'm from (they wouldn't if I gave the name of my actual hometown).

@timmmahhhh
@timmmahhhh 2 жыл бұрын
There are plenty of parking garages but they're not cheap, expect to pay $30/hour in the loop or North loop during business hours. Parking at Navy Pier that's available too but not cheap. Cheapest way to park is to park in a suburb and take a train in either Metra or CTA. If you're near O'Hare you could park at the Cumberland Avenue garage and take the blue line in. If you're coming in from the West burbs you can find free on street parking in South Oak Park on the streets along the Eisenhower close to one of the blue line stops there. I live in the West burbs and I have a Prius C, in part for the gas mileage but in big part because it's a small car that gives me more parking opportunities particularly on street.

Contrary to public perception, deep dish is not the most common pizza in Chicago. Tavern pizza is. Very thin, very crisp, cut into squares. (Actually, more like four sided polygons which are square-like.) You can put ketchup on whatever you like. I personally would not defile my food like that. But if you paid for it, do what you want. Wrong about Chicago drivers. I find them much more patient than other big cities. If you are from the Chicago area (which includes NW Indiana) and you are in Europe, NY, LA, etc, it is fine to say you are from Chicago. What really pisses people from Chicago off is using tired old stereotypes. And saying Chitown.

The roads where driving slow will get you filthy looks every time are the Tristate and the North-South Tollway (355). The speed limit says “55,” but it’s closer to 80 when traffic allows. I got my sister from our Mom’s house in Minooka to O’Hare one Sunday morning (pre-9/11) in 44 minutes, giving her 45 minutes to board her plane, thanks to the lack of traffic and high speeds on the Tristate.

Yeah. I feel I won't get too many views from the UK with that title. May need to come up with a new one. More youtube friendly

Haha those Chicago dogs from Chicago, as much as I hate all the traffic and rules in Chicago, I’m glad I got to have some Chicago dogs in Chicago!

Your steak, not mine. Definitely not mine! Some Chicagoans will get upset with ketchup in any hot dog not just Chicago style. Yep love ketchup on non Chicago style Dogs.

I’m Malaysian, Kuching, Malaysia it’s quite beautiful city over there. Unfortunately, there’s barely people and so hard to find good food. I can’t believe it. I was felt like over extracted.😔

I went to college with a guy who said he was from Chicago. One weekend I was going to be driving to Chicago to visit family and asked if he wanted to ride along and I'd drop him by his family. Turns out he was really from Champaign. Pretty much anyone in Illinois will say they are from Chicago.

Another item: Chicago just plain isn't interesting. Horrible climate, and whatever you might want from a cold city can be found in NYC. Chicago's only value is being the setting of police/hospital/firefighter/lawyer tv shows. I know it hurts but it's true 🤷‍♂️
@traviskitteh

I disagree. There's so much culture and art scene here if you're willing to leave Michigan Ave. Seriously, ride a bike to Wicker Park, Pilsen or Boys Town!
@spudwish

@@traviskitteh alright, what kind of culture? The infamous Chicago pizza is the only thing I can think of, other than that there's just "generic big city culture" -> NYC.

If you think chicago is boring, you might be broke. Or, ya know..... Just boring.... There's plenty of things to do and a lot of times you don't even need to drive. You just need to keep your eyes open 🤷🏽‍♂ There's always a new concert or restaurant, or a new shop to explore, or a new park to relax in. As for the climate, eh, you just get used to it...
