On single stage paint, the paint breaks down at the same rate as the compound. This forces the removed paint down into the pad which in turn acts as an abrasive to continue to cut. Clear coat is so dense that the compound gums up the pads making them to smooth to continue to cut. Dawn Powerwash Platinum is what I use to clean out the pads used for single stage paint. Rub it in by hand, then rinse out with warm water until clean. Spin dry using the polisher, apply more compound and get back at it. On some black single stage paint, I just use water on a finishing pad to jewel up.

I still like my Flex ecosystem. Using all the same batteries is nice. The batteries do ramp down some, but it’s manageable. They are very smooth with the exception of the geared orbital, but it has its place too. But I I agree with Matt on the Mirka, it’s so smooth. They definitely need a 5”.

I understand the significance of a compound and polish that wipes off easily because I’m sure the same lubricants that allow it to wipe off easily give it a longer runtime. However, What are your thoughts on utilizing McKees N914 as a wipe off spray since they claim that it won’t interfere with coating a car? usually, I’ll do a 50-50 mix of isopropyl alcohol and N914 diluted eight to one

That’s simply not true, that’s like trying to reinvent the wheel lol. What people want is smooth action with their preferred throw and mirka has done it the best but that’s not without flaws too. No lock down button is a huge one for me. Also rupes has been revolutionizing the industry for years people copy rupes lol

That’s def not true. Mirka might have a solid 3 in and Matt prefers it. I personally like it but no need for me to upgrade too it. Rupes paved the way for long throw DA’s and everyone has copied Rupes. I think it comes down to personal preference but I love the new Rupes 15. It took a couple of cars to get use to but makes the Milwaukee feel like janky and overweight. I don’t feel like I am Vibrating all over the place now. I can work faster with the Rupes.
