When I have too many books that I don't feel need to be in the room, I add them to my book giveaway bin and every Friday I draw names for a few students to take home a book! They love getting to take a book home, raises the chances of them reading at home, and gets the book out of the classroom!

I would like to say this: You are entering a new year of teaching,a year that may be frought with newfound challenges. You are a teacher,but now,you are a protector,and you Put Them First. Do whatever you have to do to teach and protect and inspire. I believe in you. I believe in all who teach. Heroes,all of you! ❤️

Can you upload the cards to TPT as EDITABLE ppt WITHOUT the images? We use Fundations as well and these cards are a MUST HAVE

Yes, of course! I’ll add those today.

For the books you don’t want that were in the classroom when you came there, is there a way you can put them in a box or a crate and store them somewhere so when you leave they’ll just be there for the next person. As a teacher I know storage space is limited I get that but at least that way you’re not getting rid of the books technically and you’re saving them for a teacher who may get that room but they’re out of your way.

Well said! Books are THE treasure. Diamonds? Bah. Gold? Bah. But,a BOOK!!! Nobody knows which book it will be,that turns on that little switch of inspiration in the mind of a child,and that propels them towards the future that belongs to all of us. ☺️

Hi! New Subscriber. Your vid was a recommendation to me. 😍 I am absolutely living all of my school teacher dreams vicariously through your videos. I love working with kids and it just isn't in the cards for me. I can't wait to see your room all set up! (the letter cards were SO satisfying..lol)

...With 24 first graders I never have room for their own book bin so I use hanging book bags. The stand comes with it or I shorten a pocket chart stand ( or clothes rack from walmart).👍

As someone who works in a library and constantly hears about "weeding books is bad", I am here to let you know that it is perfectly fine to remove a book. Use some die cits and make bookmarks for the kids, cut up the pages and use them in art projects, etc. If a book is okay but not for you/your classroom, then definitely keep it for the next teacher in case they don't have anything. But if a book is outdated or no longer appropriate then definitely recycle/reuse.

I am so happy to see you again. The emotions that you displayed at the beginning are the same that I shared with my Division Director. I am also a third year teacher in MA as well. I did my first classroom set-up along with yours. And just like you I love being my classroom. Can you share with us the printer that you are using? The colors are so vibrant. Thank you.

I had book bags last year that hung on the side of their desks and that worked really well we had a bunch of the blue bags that scholastic gave our school and I used those but this year I ordered some canvas totes from Amazon

I'm curious why you don't laminate then cut them out after?
@mariluhernandez64483 жыл бұрын
Because they split apart with the heat when they get stored and it wastes laminating sheets

As a parent, I love that you are moving away from the word wall. Sounds make so much more sense! Something to consider - get down to the level of the height of your students when they are sitting and standing and make sure the items can be seen well from their line of sight and vantage point.

WOW, I taught Fundations for my second grade classes. The cards you made are amazing. My cousin who is a special ed teacher made power point interactive Fundations lessons where students came up to the Interactive TV and would drag the Fundation letters on the Interactive tv to create words. They kids loved it and it made Fundations interactive. Your cards look great. Good job

If you have a school storage area I would just box up those books and write first grade extra books on it and store it out of your room. *if you can*

You have to sort the books anyway. Just put the ones you don’t want in your library in a tote and ask the school to store it outside of your classroom

I found it funny you mention being lucky on Friday the 13th with the free guacamole because I broke my toe trying to move a table at school. The table landed directly on my toe and it broke. So we definitely didn’t have the same day 😂 Glad your day was better than mine. (My toe is getting better slowly 🙃)

For the books that you're not crazy about that belonged to the room, I'd just box them up and put them in the closet. I did that so that a new teacher would have something when I took my books.

I realize you've already finished the cards, but why didn't you laminate first then cut that way you'd only have to do the edges once.
@puttingthemfirst3 жыл бұрын
I prefer to cut prior to laminating so that I can leave a seal around the edges of each piece when cutting after lamination. Things seem to hold up better that way - with less peeling!

Do you have a Lakeshore? Ours sells Stikki Clips! And the wax, too. Also, the mesh zipper bags could be a good option for book bags! They’re easy to clean and are durable.

Remove the books your kids won’t read from your library. Store them if you can, or pass them on. It’s harder for kids to find “just right” books when there are too many books.
