Ok but this game is actually very interesting to watch with these two players, because they run counter to one another. Dan keeps things tidy, taking the small wins whenever he can and his board stays clear as a result. Arin plays the long game stacking up for a big combo, he risks a lose condition for the sake of sabotaging his opponent further down the line. The thing is that both strategies have overlap. Dan will sometimes luck out into a big combo which messes with Arin greatly because he's already risking so much space. Arin's strategy clutters Dan's when he does land the big combo which makes Dan's job more difficult, he's not used to dealing with so little free space. However these games are about win/loss conditions, that's how they end, so ultimately Dan's strategy pays off greater because he's able to dig himself out of a bad situation faster than Arin. If the game was timed and point based, Arin's strategy would win because of higher point totals.

if you think about it is like a metaphor of life, Arin is thinking too much about the future so he is not prepared for the present moment, but Dan is so in the moment that he doesnt have a second plan for the future.

It's because the Puyo Puyo player will always be disadvantaged to the Tetris player because garbage tetrimino's can give the Tetris player an instant Tetris.

It's not that simple. Puyo players can take advantage of garbage blocks to set off even more chains as well. But generally it seems to be agreed upon that a Tetris beginner will wreck a Puyo beginner, a Puyo intermediate will wreck a Tetris intermediate and then a Tetris expert will wreck a Puyo expert again. But in this mode they were both always playing the same game so that's not even something that matters here.

I think that mode would be much more interesting if instead of just swamping between two different games (Puyo and Tetris), they actually swapped the blocks from Puyo to Tetris, and Tetris to Puyo. Then, you'd have to think your moves ahead considering the placement AND the colors...

Jesus, Arin is so overly ambitious in Puyo. There were lots of times when he could have gotten 2-combos, but saving them to try to make a 4 combo really fucks him hard. Also, I didn't know THAT was the meaning of drop it like it's hot either. So Arin is not alone :P

Watching Danny win is like watching an episode of Game Grumps where Danny wins. You're not sure how its happening, but you constantly question why it is. Danny just matches 1 combo patterns and occasionally gets lucky with a 2 combo and yet SOMEHOW he overcomes Arins barrage of combo's. Admittedly Arin gets over zealous and trips at the finish line, but it truly is a marvel. Defense > Offense = Danny > Arin.
