Puzzles and Survival: Hero Guide.

After finally acquiring the last hero (Tomoyo) for my collection, I wanted to do a video all about heroes. The video went longer than I planned but there are a lot of heroes and I wanted to be able to explain how to understand your heroes and what they do. A lot of useful information if you still feel uncomfortable picking and choosing your heroes for a variety of situations. This guide will help you figure out how to better understand the unique characteristics of each hero. I also showcase some of the newest heroes that you may not have acquired yet. Tactical skill is a percentage of your troops damage done as bonus damage from the hero. The hero must match the troop type. Only 4 heroes of the same troop type can use their tactical skill. So if you have 5 shooter type heroes only 4 will use their tactical skill and do bonus damage equal to a percentage of the troops damage.

Hi bud nice work very informitive. Plesse can you explain where you see the effects of tactial troops skill... For example Chester at +3 has 200% tactical troop skill when in rally... But I don't see this come into effect.. Or am I looking in the wrong place.

Great question! You won't ever see the tactical skill take effect unless you watch the battle (the play button in your log - I show how to watch a battle in my zombie lair video) but basically the tactical skill is used in raids and lairs when the hero skill is full instead of using their other hero skills they simply boost the damage of the type of troop they are! So fighter heroes will cause their tactical skill percentage damage for a group of shooters for example 200% of a small group of fighters attack output. Hope that makes sense! Happy to help. Some of the characters have gone through multiple changes. And in more recent update they even added 3d animation to some of the heroes. Like many games they are trying to improve not only gameplay but the aesthetics of the game. Definitely fun. Not a fan of every change but I appreciate the effort lol.

I had a quick question regarding Requiem, and I know with your example on Levina it *should* be clear, but my Alliance was having some back-and-forth on whether the type of icon next to the Hero's name even has any effect. If I'm interpreting this correctly from your example, with Requiem, when used in battle her hero skill would boost the shooters damage?

Yes! Absolutely. So she is a shooter type hero and therefore in battle she does a percentage of unit attack for shooters. The percentage is based on her enhancement level. So meyers is fighter based so when his skill goes off in pvp battles it will do a percentage of fighter unit attack. I have a video on tactical skill damage that explains it a bit better. Quick question: Atropolis boosts only apply to santuary battles as long as she's in the hero selection for troops.. So other than defending your HQ and attacking enemy bases, would her boosts apply towards anything else, like say the zenith hub or turrets?

From what I understand Atropos' boosts do not apply while attacking or defending hubs or anything else that isnt specifically a sanctuary.

I would say get your main 5 or 6 up first then spread it out. I look at levelling like a spear point. Start with your main 1 (or a few) then as they get stronger slowly build up everything around it. Hope that helps! Thanx for watching!

Thanx! Phoenix is obtained from epic hero choice cards that are given in a variety of events during the off week of global ace commander. However she is a time limited hero. Meaning your state has to be old enough before she is released and you are able to acquire her. Keep an eye on events and the rewards until you see her available. Good luck!

I save everything that has an event. Hero cards for get hero events, gear and material boxes for get gear events even eva military and econ points for that event. But early on if you need to do a lot of upgrading to improve lair raids or battles then it might be smart to upgrade some at least and save what you can. That's my opinion.

Absolutely! All heroes have a purpose even if some aren't utilized as much as others.

One thing for newer players to consider is how you are playing. You may want to focus on heroes that help with resource production … like 2* Kento vs 2* Queenie. Listen to advice, but always consider how you want to play before leveling up every hero.

valence i really appreciate you doning this. playing about 3.5 weeks at lvl17. stopped recycling frags of heroes in my queu recently now that i get it better. have been lucky to get Requiem, Mars, and Eve. I'm playing a flat game on troops and their boosts although i tend to elevate fighters 1st. My Blue is 4-star Otto who is strong and i can ride for a while. My gold/orange is 3-star Malcolm who is maxed out and +4 now. Had to recycle some frags i would have prefered to keep, but he is dragging me down in the campaigns, having to use Eve to keep just him in it. I want Mantis but haven't seen any sing of him. how do I get him?

Mantis has to be won from specific events. Joy coin for instance. Which is going on right now. Save your coins between events until you have 50. 50 coins guarantees the epic cards needed to recruit mantis. Good luck!

Hey Val, could you help me with my hero situation? First is it important to grow all colors early? I'm over a month in and have Req2+, Eph2+, Zeph2+, Meyers1+, Tomoyo1+, Ulrik+1, Fox and McCarthy. I usually campaign/arena with the first five. I want to use Fox because she's useful but I'm shooter based and got Zeph to 2+ from events thanks to you ;). I don't have the luxury to grow both Ulrik and Fox (they're both lv 1 lol). I can start growing one as my main fives are all 210 now. But I don't know if I should abandon Zeph2+ for Fox. How would you handle this situation? Also, I have 25 5* choice cards and can also unlock Obs with a few Perf Frags. Is it better to unlock all heroes I don't own first or spend my choice cards on Eph and save the frags for when Phoenix is released. I have some Lee, Marlowe, Mars frags that I can turn into heroes.

Early on I think it's important to focus on campaign. Keep trying to grow all heroes and unlock all heroes. That's my personal preference others may say focus on getting your main troop heroes up first. But they will all come up in time. I would focus on fox over zephyr (I still have zephyr at +2 lol) but zephyr can be useful. I find fox to be more useful. Other then that I wouldnt stress too much. Focus on getting high in campaign doing well in uc and having a strong lineup for arena and a good lineup for your troops. You'll find a natural path to what wants to go up. The only time you really should worry about focusing strongly on one vs another is if you need it for something specific. To pass a level or increase your stats to beat a higher lair solo. Otherwise it's good to get them all up. It takes a little bit longer but trying to maintain balance makes the overall process a little bit easier in my opinion. Focus when you need to. You're doing great!

You can get Lady M frags from the non global ace commander events. So any event during the week between global ace commander will drop epic hero choice cards with a choice between zephyr Phoenix and lady m if those heroes are available in your state.

If you have the purple/gold battle, those purple tiles will do not damage, but does that also in turn mean that the purple hero will do extra damage as well? Or do the heros colors only boost the tiles?

The color of the hero matches the tile and the damage the tile does is based off of the heroes attack vs the enemies defense and type. So a purple hero that does 100 damage (after defense is calculated) will do 200 damage to a gold hero but only half damage to a purple. Vice versa for gold. Green blue and red do 100 damage to their own color half damage to the stronger color and double damage to the weaker color. So green is weak against red but strong against blue. Does that make sense?

@@Godlovesmatt I see what you are saying now. A heros special skill still works against any other hero. How effective that skill is in terms of weak/strong adversaries I am not entirely sure. The numbers aren't exactly the same each time as their are many factors that go into calculating the damage and only a split second to see what the number is. I'll look into it but don't know that I'd be able to say with any degree of certainty. My assumption was that similar rules applied for special skills as it applies to tiles. But that is just an assumption.

Evolving increases the ability to level up the heroes. The up arrow indicates increasing the star level from 5* to 6* (also called red star). Only 5* heroes can improve their star level once all other requirements are met (5* , +5, level 210)

You need them all and it's tough to pick. I'd say fox is extremely useful one of the best healers in the game. And you need her for meyers so I'd recommend her first. Requiem you'll get by raiding lairs so no rush on her. If you are fighter based ulrik is a good choice and a strong hero. McCarty you can get with rare earth so I'd wait on him. Mars and Marlowe are good heroes but they would be further down the list for me. If you are shooter based I would go with Ephraim. And if you are rider based then for sure take Fox. Hope that helps.

@@ValenceRing Agent X seems to be super useful against some quest that ask you to deal DMG to specific monsters since she does 99% DMG and they are always full health, is it the case?

@@superiores6972 agent x is critical for certain level of ultimate challenge as well as campaign because of her skill that does max dmg to an enemy only leaving 1 hp. The heroes that have "infinite" hp her skill doesn't work on. But there are many stages of ultimate challenge where it is extremely difficult to pass without her. Mantis is also useful for a few late stages of Ultimate challenge. But agent x's skill works the same if she is +0 or +8. Mantis requires leveling up for her skill to be very effective. So I recommend starting with agent x and then you can grab mantis. But that's just my opinion. Other players may say mantis is more useful or that tomoyo is.

Hey mate. Whats your best Campaign lineup for new players? Im currently running Dr J, Barbie, Bard, Chester, and Percival and we have just completed chapter 11. But I just unlocked Otto, and I can add 1 of the following from Hero Choice cards: Ulrik, Requiem, Marlowe, Fox, Ephraim, Myers, Mars, or McCarthy. I believe I also have enough points to unlock Varvara from the Ruins shop, and I can nearly unlock Devana from the Arena shop. Im not a whale but not strictly F2P either so Ive considered Scarlett but I dont know if she would be a big boost in the campaign fights. Not sure if I should continue with my current 5 as they are all approaching level 70, or unlock the 4 and 5 star toons and start building them up.

So my recommendation for newer players is to make sure you unlock Fox as soon as possible because she heals and removes debuffs. She is also super useful throughout the game in a variety of ways. I do recommend at least unlocking Scarlett if you are willing to spend the money. I wouldn't spend money to upgrade her as she can be upgraded with perfect frags once you have obtained her. But the only way to ever get her (currently anyways) is by purchasing her. She is the only hero that has this as a requirement. And she is a good hero early on. Outside of that I would always focus on 5 star heroes as much as possible and only focus on 4 star heroes that have either boosts that you find useful or that you need temporarily for campaign. Varvara is super useful for her boosts so if you have enough ruins coins to unlock her you should. My biggest recommendation is to always unlock all the heroes when possible and then level up the ones you need when you need them. You will eventually need or have a use for every hero. @@ValenceRing I did end up getting Fox with my first Heros Choice cards. Ive got her up to level 130 but I dont have enough Combat Manual IVs to take her any higher. And wouldnt you know it I just got 10 more hero choice cards from the recent Joy 777 event, and I am leaning towards getting Meyers with those. If I get both the Scarlett and Noah passes I think that will get me 2 more 5 star heros for under $20, so I just might do that. Im currently stuck on the last stage of chapter 14, but with those upgrades I think I should stand a pretty decent chance to beat it lol.

Dont forget if youre struggling with a level make sure you still farm ones you can win to get books and then try again as you level heroes up. You want to get to 20-9 campaign so you can farm that for a bit. But it takes time dont feel rushed. Youll get it.

Early on I wouldnt worry about specialization too much. Try to learn the events and which ones you can do well at. Then build up the heroes you do get. Once further along a lot of those decisions become easier for you. One of the easiest heroes to acquire (fairly) early on is Requiem. If you are doing well in lairs then higher level lairs will start dropping her frags and she is a great hero throughout the game. As for 3 and 4 star heroes early on they are tough to get and level up but you'll find soon enough that you'll be able to level all of them up. The best strategy I can recommend (in my opinion) is focus on the hero you need right now for a specific task. For instance beating a campaign level or acquiring an economy or troop boost. Once the task is complete and you are working on a new one you may find a different hero will work well for that so select that hero and focus on them. In this way you will always be building towards completing the tasks you want/need to and increasing all of your heroes over time. I hope this helps! I will have many more videos on heroes. Questions like this are difficult to answer because I don't know what your current heroes look like (level wise) and I don't know which heroes you do have that maybe you aren't using. Questions like this are why I started a discord server. discord.gg/BedyQM9k feel free to join using that link. But realistically any 4 star hero is going to be stronger than your 3 star heroes once levelled up. And you need to unlock all of them so while there may be an optimal answer (I'm not sure at the moment) I can tell you that there isn't really a wrong answer either.

5* perfect hero frags are used to upgrade any hero you already have unlocked. Some heroes are excluded based on rarity. You use them by going to the hero you want to enhance and selecting the perfect frags next to the enhance button. Good luck!

The yellow flags indicate that a hero is not idle. For instance when you have them in a rally or in a march or out occupying a location. Basically just means "in use" lol.

Although it is hard to confirm for 100% certainty, I think the answer is yes. Lairs are still considered zombie hunting to the best of my knowledge so his boosts should affect solo zombies or lairs.

Hey...you know you are getting serious about a game when you go to You Tube for strategy guides! Just wondering, are you recommending to keep 2 and 3 stars from early on? I've been recycling them to get points in Noahs tavern so I can buy frags for the 5* Heroes that I am try to level up...would it be better to keep the low level ones baring in mind that I don't have any kind of resource shortage (thanks to being in a very active Alliance)? I'm level 23 at the moment but really struggling to get my troop size and might up

Great question. I definitely recommend keeping all your 2 star heros (all heros for that matter) at +5. Once they are +5 THEN recycle all the frags you get for them. The bonuses they give are more beneficial the longer you have them. If everytime you build something and you have a cost reduction to that then that hero saves you that amount multiplied by how many times you upgrade. So it can start adding up into millions of rss! That's huge! Plus once they are +5 you dont even have to think about it anymore. All my 2, 3 and most of my 4 star heros are +5 so when I recycle frags it takes me no time to go through them. As for there upgrade level. 2 stars dont need to be higher than lvl 31, 3 stars no higher than 71 and 4 stars no higher than 131 (unless you use them for troop boosts). Hope that helps!

@@mad_like_a_hatter5469 well hopping to state 16 would be a big drop for you. The problem with big jumps is the amount of time lower level states have been playing the game comparatively. So you would be up against more seasoned players with bigger boosts simply based on time. I've been playing for around 6 months now. It is a disadvantage to jump down many states. Not saying you shouldnt necessarily. Just understand what you are getting into. There are many states to choose from. I have a video on immigration you should check out if you havent seen it yet. She was initially released during an event. After that she was then released into Noah's tavern. Using int. Or adv. Recruit coins can unlock her. It does appear her drop rate isn't very high. She may come back around in events or with 4* perfect hero frags (unsure how they will be released) Ultimately it's just luck of the draw in Noah's tavern for now. Good luck!

From global ace commander rewards. But she has to be released in your state first. If your GAC reward is still only obsidian then you cant get atropos yet. If the rank reward for GAC is an epic hero choice card then obsidian and atropos will be the choices

If you have enough frags to evolve her then the evolve tab under her avatar will be glowing. Select that and it will ask if you want to evolve her. Hope that helps.

It requires many frags to enhance a hero from one level to the next. So it takes 10 frags to unlock a hero. 10 more frags to go from level 0 to level 1 then 20 drags to get from level 1 to 2 and so forth and so on. When you have an in between number you will see them saved but you wont be able to use them until you acquire enough to enhance that hero to the next level. Now frags and books are two very different things. Heroes can be enhanced, evolved and leveled. Antiserum is for levelling, books are for evolving and frags are for enhancing. If you are talking about books to evolve then there are many levels of books. The basic green books (lvl 1) blue books, purple, and red. You have to have enough of each type to evolve a hero and the hero has to be at the max level to be evolved to the next stage. The caps are level 10, 30, 70, 130, 210 and 310. Some things may have changed a bit since I first started playing this game. The drops may have gotten tighter or the level higher. Or I may have misquoted which lairs she drops from. You should always be doing the highest lair possible that you can solo or join a member of your alliance doing higher levels than you. If you are the highest then consider using two or three members to do higher level lairs as those frags are important as well as the hero choice cards that come after.

I’ve been playing about a week and my might is well over 5 million. I just healed Nova today, built the Research Lab for her and a little later I was checking my extra hero frags and was shocked to see I have 8 frags for Zephyr. He is not available in Noah’s Tavern or anywhere else I have looked so I don’t know how I got them or where I can get two more frags to add him to my team. He is not included on the 5 star heroes choice cards, which sucks. Any help would be great. Thanks.

So as new states develop new heroes are released over time. You may have gotten him from an event or something even though he isnt fully released yet in your state. He also isnt in normal 5* hero choice cards. You need epic hero choice cards (ii I tink) to unlock him. So certain events will drop those type of cards eventually if they arent already.

All the epic choice cards (numbered ones) do NOT give points for events. So use them whenever you like. The 4* epic choice cards 5* epic choice cards, epic cards (from silver and gold card) and maybe perfect frags give points for the get heroes events. You also get points for acquiring Flint frags from arena boxes and points for any of the heroes you acquire from noah coins and or zombie lair boxes. Also any heroes you purchase from shops (like McCarty from rare earth etc) do give points (and of course frags purchased in the mall)

The points you get for completing daily quests goes towards alliance activity. The max points daily is 180 even though it only takes 150 to get all the daily boxes.

No as long as you donate the number of times required to complete the daily quest then it has no effect. You can donate to whatever tech you want. I will say the 10% bonus for hot tech also gives you 10% bonus in alliance coins that you spend in the alliance shop. So there is a benefit to you to do so.

They release new heroes over a certain period of time. So newer states might not have all the heroes yet. Nothing can be done about that but waiting. Many special events are the only way to initially get certain heroes.

You will get 20 ironclaw frags as a reward for completing Ultimate Challenge level 170. Also while the odds are very low you can get lucky in doomfest divination or lucky draw and win 10 ironclaw frags. Good luck!

What type of troop do you prefer using? Obsidian and fox are good for riders. Phoenix and ephraim are good for shooters. Ulrik is good for fighters. Requiem, meyers marlowe and mars are good for everyone. So forth and so on. It's hard to give a recommendation on what heroes are going to work well for you because I dont know what you already have, how you play the game or if you are trying to specialise or not. Sorry I cant be more help.

Anytime your hero is in a march, such as gathering, in a rally, or otherwise considered "in use" then the hero cannot be adjusted. Nanoweapons cant be changed and they cannot be reset. I do believe (at least previously) in-use heroes can be enhanced and promoted but outside of that big changes can not be made. I would check your gatherers. Sometimes heroes accidentally get sent to gather and if you didnt realise it then the hero will be considered in use, or "not idle". Hope this helps!

You acquire combat manuals from winning campaign stages (even ones you already beat) you need lots amd lots of manuals of different tiers to evolve heroes. The blue combat manuals (combat manual III I believe) are some of the least dropped and most needed. If you dont have a certain type of manual then you need to go further in campaign when you attempt to evolve it should show you specifically what you need and what you have. Hope this helps!

@@zachzitani4502 enhancing heroes takes hero frags which you can get in noaha tavern and from a variety of events. Zombie lairs and zombies also drop either specific frags or 4* or 5* hero choice cards. If you are stuck in campaign just focus on ones you can beat until you level up your heroes. It takes time. In the hero tab (near the bottom left of your game screen) open that. If you have enough frags to unlock the hero then it will show up there with a glowing frame. Just click the hero and you will unlock them. Good luck!

What is the purpose for resetting heroes

Well I personally don't advocate for resetting heroes. Early on it can be used if you levelled up a hero that you don't need anymore and want to use the antiserum on a different hero. Sometimes people reset heroes so they can level up a different hero they might need for a difficult level of UC and then switch back later. The main benefit late in game is if you have all heroes maxed out and your antiserum is full this will prevent you from doing a lair potentially so you can reset a hero which puts the antiserum back into your bag then you can use your on hand antiserum to relevel the hero up. And that way you can stockpile antiserum for any new heroes that are released. Just resetting heroes left and right I find is not very productive. I recommend if you need a hero for a level then just leave the heroes as they are and focus on the heroes you need. Every hero should be maxed out eventually regardless.

Hey at the beginning you mentioned the joy event if you save at least 50 coins you are guaranteed a win that will put you at 90% 60 coins put you at 100% so just save them up instead of using them

It is very vague and there is a question about what all it applies to. But what I tell people (may be slightly inaccurate) is a "hunt" is classified as attacking zombies on the world map. This to me includes zombie lairs. However in the description lairs and hunt are 2 seperate categories. I believe his hunt atk + skill applies anytime you are attacking zombies, lairs, destroyer, and special holiday monsters (rally or solo) on the world map. Some of those might not apply. Either way, it definitely helps with solo zombies and is beneficial to have no matter what. Hope that helps.

Zephyr is unlocked by completing events on the off week of Global ace commander. However your state also has to be old enough to unlock him. So today is hero upgrade day. This is one of the events that awards epic hero choice cards that includes zephyr as an option. If he is available in your state. So check that event and see.

If you already have the hero you can only see the next enhancement level. If you have not obtained the hero yet then you can view max enhancement by going to the uncontained hero tab and selecting the avatar. Hope that helps!

I did find that if you click on the enhancement level and click on the specific skill it will show you the stat at each level. Also you can go in to say Noah's tavern and click on the lower right corner of the recruit avatars then select the hero that is obtainable and it will show you a max preview. You may also be able to do this if you have a corresponding epic choice card. Select the magnifying glass then select the hero and it will show you max preview. Hope this helps!
