Same, I'm a mechanical engineer and my daily driver is a Seiko Solar divewatch. Mechanical movements are cool, but how a photon-driven watch functions isn't any less intresting or cool to me, honestly, I think it's even more cool.

As the poster of the question, I totally thought the answer would go down the direction of the railway engineers or a military aspect (royal engineers, naval navigators, etc.). But yes, as an engineer (and always will be) I do think that a no-nonsense time and date, dependable time-keeper through thick and thin is the definition of an “engineer’s watch”.
@Anirossa2 ай бұрын
@@mclovinhawaii3905 Can only speak from my own experience as a young mech. engineer. My mech. engineer professors more or less all wore chronographs, students in my class had mostly smart watches, G-shocks and also remember one having mechanical prx. What I have seen in wider terms from engineers however, is that we seem to be drawn in by very functional watches, so watches that are very easy to read or have great functionality. Personally, I am extremely drawn to the sinn 556a, Laco, Stowa, IWC as well as some glashutte original watches.

With regards to grail I’m more vintage inclined, and recently I’ve been trying to find at least one grail from every decade (or even an inspired re-release) starting with the 30s. Some of my personal choices would be… 1. Gold plated American watch from the 30s (depression/prohibition era) 2. WW2-era pilot watch from early 40s 3. My father’s birth year watch from 50s which I was able to acquire a couple years ago 4. Casio calculator watch from the 80s which I was also able to acquire recently in good working condition. 5. Still confused about 60s, 70s, 90s and 00s. What are your thoughts?

I love the collab vids. I always gain knowledge from you two. I have a small KZbin channel where I do a mix of Watch reviews along with other items that I dig. But wondering if I should mainly focus on 1 type of content? I feel like mixing things up feels creatively right for me but of course, I want to grow. Question: It seems like I hear so many Rolex owners say that buying a watch that looks like a Rolex model (Sub, DateJust, etc) means you wish you had the real thing. But for the past 75 years, Rolex designers have engrained what a watch should look like into our culture. So much so that its hard for todays watch designers to come up with something that strays from those standards and still becomes iconic itself. Like the Bel Canto or most of Chaykins designs. What are your thoughts on watches that look so much like Rolex models? SeaStar, ProMaster, Hydroconquest, Tsuyosa, PRX and so on?

As an engineer, an electrical one, I'd say it's the quartz/digital and to a degree, the Seiko Spring Drive watches. Can't beat the utility of a quartz digital, much closer to the ideal of solid state. Toss in solar power, for the win.
