How come nobody used the MiG-29? It has the best power:weight and rate of climb of and super-fast to spin up.

Probably due to MiG-29 being low fidelity plane so it's far faster to spin up like all FC3 planes lacking many systems. But MiG-29 9.12 full fidelity is coming to DCS after Black Shark 3 update!

@@bazej1080 given that they were skipping startup options for fast spinup and using keyboard shortcuts on all the planes anyway, I'm not sure that is a valid argument.

@@gordan79 To start full fidelity MDD F/A-18C, even ommiting all unnecessary systems, you need about 1 minute. To start low fidelity FC3 MDD F-15C you need some 15 seconds... There is a massive difference. IRL both need about a minute minimum.

To make this more equal for every plane why not do a variation with the planes hot? This way FC3 planes don't get an advantage with hot key only start up, and the winner gets it purely though plane choice and skill.

now you need to do a scramble alert comp.. where its total time to start, take off and intercept the bad guys identify and land.. ALL team members must land with out crashing for time to count !

That was bollocks about anti lock breaks. ABS doesn't stop a vehicle in less distance, it only allows the vehicle to be steered whilst under braking. L9cking the tires in the dry is the quickest way to stop a vehicle

Ha you did much better than me in the 18 :) at least I didn’t stall it though but I’d damaged my wing taxiing so it broke off on the headbutt so I did end up falling out of the sky in the end.

Yes that was my strategy with the F18 actually i probably started rolling with the right engine somewhere around 50% rpm, if hadn’t have put it into the grass while taxiing (damaging my wing hence the fireball on the way down) I would have taken off maybe 5 seconds earlier, I think maybe the left engine was getting up to speed as I was getting lined up to takeoff. Of course the rest of my attempt didn’t go as well :)

oh come on. You should have to stay on the run way when you land. and you should have to use taxi ways. If it was me, and since it's not against the rules, you could just taxi straight out and take off!

The rules were that you had to takeoff and touchdown on the runway but not necessarily to finish on the runway.

Hi Cap, is it possible for skilled DCS pilots to fly low just by using ground radar to avoid obstacles? E.g. canyon run without AAA or SAMs but with clouds and fog and zero visibility. I recently tried on a multiplayer server but only managed to smash the Viggen into some mountains (much to the annoyance of my team since a/c resources were limited on that server). Viggen or JF-17 might have the best AG radars. But maybe F-5, Mig-21 or F/A-18 would work, too?

Will investigate but the only plane that I know of with ground avoidance is A-4.

Many thanks, Cap. Viggen has a ground avoidance mode (default key mapped to "O"). Viggen is a nice module. Not too complex, quite capable. I would pay for a dedicated A2A version with better AA radar.
