Regarding your closing comment about tackles in rugby vs football, I absolutely agree that they hit harder in the NFL but I think the reason for that is because in football you know the guy isn’t going to pass. In rugby you can’t line a guy up and smash him into next week because you have to be prepared for him passing or kicking the ball so you often commit to tackling much later.
@JayTeejee54711 ай бұрын
Harder hits in football because helmet and pads make the players feel invincible. As a result full speed head first. Rugby players are definitely better form tacklers.
@dcbbot11 ай бұрын
Both those reasons plus the average time fo continuous play is ebtween 7-14 seconds, before a massive break between downs. The NFL si built for short explosive bursts. Try tackling full on when you've been running arund between 1.5-3 minutes contunously with much smaller breaks in the 70th minute of a game. As regards to the sprots science, if he's referring to the espn special they had a semi pro american rugby player compared to a top class NFL player. You can already see what's wrong. You've just got a vastly different calibre of athlete. It'd be like the BBC doing a comparison using the hardest hitters in the English game versus people that play Gridiron in the UK. So the ddifference was a lot mroe exageratedd in that experiment.
@QSNgg11 ай бұрын
You're 100% right about that. I feel like rugby also does a great job of protecting their players and enforcing more fundamentally sound tackling In American Football we can hit you pretty much anywhere without penalties (except for headshots). So it's definitely more violent and dynamic in that respect
@QSNgg11 ай бұрын
I can agree with that for sure. Rugby does a great job enforcing solid form tackling including wrapping up players

The guys who excel at 7s Ruby are always an absolute menace in the 15s game - it's a unique set of skills. Cheslin Kolbe and Kurt-Lee Arendse both came up through 7s. Also check Kwagga Smith - the Springboks use him as an impact player late in the game (he's never in the starting 15). Often referred to as "the swiss army knife", he doesn't do the sexy stuff - you seldom see him score a try. But he can play just about any position, forwards or backs, and he's a busy body causing all sorts of trouble for the opposition. A real impact player!

In gridiron you would try to decompartmentize, those athletic abilities...BE good running backs, wide receivers, BUT, THEY CRAVE the ball, all the time in play . My personal opinion on the whole NFL vs. Rugby comparison videos, is that they aren't really representative. While some parts of the game is the similar, the games are far enough apart that you cannot really compare them apples to apples. I like to watch some of those just because it's fun tho.
@QSNgg11 ай бұрын
I can definitely agree and see where you're coming from. The more I've been learning Rugby, I'm really starting to see how much our games differ. Very hard to compare our sports, but the skills are what I find are more closely related in terms of athleticism and physicality.

Union players cant chose their own number. Your number determines your position on the pitch. 11 & 14 wingers. 15 Fullback. 2 Hooker. 9 scrum half. 10 fly half. 12&13 centres. 8 is actually just called an "Eight". 1 & 3 Props. 5 & 6 second row. 4 & 7 Flankers (I think????) 7 defo is. NFL hits harder in terms of power in a single hit, but rugby players get tackled much more in a shorter amount of time, and in terms of how violent the sports are, I belive tha there are more injuries as result of rugby. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bYColIWJpLRkic0 Time for the forwards to get some love. This player is arguably one of the best, if not the best, rugby player also has the player of the year title, insane player.

I can definitely agree with you boss. The more I learn about Rugby I see how much our games differ. That's the beauty of each of our games is their uniqueness

Football players hit harder because both the defenders and runner wear pads and know theyre protected where in rugby the defenders are more cautious because both the attackers and defenders can get injured easily if they run too hard or try to go flying in for a tackle. If football players tried to come into rugby hitting how they do in fooball theyd get injured in the firs6 game without pad. You cant go flying into other grown man without pad thinking your ass wont get injured 😂
@QSNgg9 ай бұрын
Yeah completely different in terms of tackling between rugby and football for sure. You're absolutely right Caleb
