I was experimenting with the effects of the "AQ" (Auto-Quantize) with respect to the pencil tool. I can't seem to identify any effect for having it lit, or not. I think it may only apply to performance data (i.e., MIDI data populated by the via the record button), applying quantization as it comes in from, e.g., a USB MIDI keyboard. I think all the snappiness around 15:00 is coming from just the "snap-to-grid" alone? I am on a newer version of Studio One 3 which may have changed some functionality. I wasn't able to duplicate the default note length value seen in the video either.
@TSandwichMan7 жыл бұрын
Another difference: the quantize panel no longer appears in the F2 menu when "Q" is selected; it appears up top in the arrange view (presuming a single monitor is being used... I wonder if I had it on a separate monitor if that menu would appear in both frames).
@quantaaudio7 жыл бұрын
Exactly. Having the snap to grid feature on (by pressing "n" on your QWERTY keyboard) creates the "snappiness" that you are seeing in the video. The "AQ" relates to the "quantize value" setting. So, if the quantize value were set to 1/4 notes and you then changed it to 1/8 notes, your MIDI date will snap to that new setting as long as "AQ" is active. If you have "AQ" disengaged and make a change to your quantize value, the notes will not move at all. This is all post-recording! The "IQ" button (Input Quantize) seen at the top of the Studio One song page will quantize your MIDI notes in real-time while recording, if it is active.

Great video! I have been using Sonar for my midi because I love their editor view . It is sort of a spreadsheet view which made it easy. I have had studio one for several years for my audio and was not aware of the strengths of midi in studio one until seeing your video. I hope you can touch on the way to create an instrument I use a Roland 5080 and know that there is no such choice in studio one. In Sonar it is relatively easy to create an instrument that has many individuals instruments in it. I want to know if it is at all possible in studio one

What about when using a 3rd party instrument like say a MPC ...How would you transfer the MIDI notes into the Studio One instead of The MPC chasing the Studio One...?

I have an old MacIntosh Powerbook 190 with Master Tracks Pro Six. How do I record the MIDI sequences to Studio One? Coming from the Powerbook to a Midiman Mini Mac 100 interface to the Studio One MIDI Input (via midi), I see no indication of input. Could you please help?

i have multiple tracks using presence, but i want them at different volumes and using different piano/sound effects. is there a way to do that? when i affect the volume of one midi track, it changes all of them.
@quantaaudio4 жыл бұрын
You need to use separate instances of presence in order to accomplish this. Just drag in as many different presences as you need and apply effects and volume adjustments to them, accordingly.

How can i move the notes easily like in fl studio? In sense how can i put my notes in the right place? I'm getting crazy because everytime i draw a melody the notes slide by micro values!
@quantaaudio5 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure I completely understand what you mean by the notes sliding by micro values, but I think you just need to engage the snap function by pressing "n" on your QWERTY keyboard. Also, be sure to set your quantize value to the length/snap you're trying to achieve. I did go ahead and put up a tutorial on manipulating MIDI notes today, which could be of further help, if you care to take a look at it, here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fonLZnycd7N5Y8U

How do you fade in a section of a midi/instrument track?
@quantaaudio6 жыл бұрын
You could automate the volume control of the instrument tied to the instrument track. But your best bet may be to bounce the instrument track to audio and then use the fade control on the new audio event (in the upper left corner), or automate the fader for the newly bounced audio track.

When I have midi clip in loop and improvise in that loop is it posibble to ower write notes in that clip? In ableton there is optin overwrite notes only if two notes played one above another.I hope I was clear with the question :-/
@quantaaudio7 жыл бұрын
If I understand your question correctly you would need to go to "View" in S1 and then choose "Record Panel"(or you could press alt+shift+r). Within the record panel be sure to choose "Replace" in the Record Mode section. You could also choose Record Takes along with Takes to layers to have your improvisations go to separate layers and just keep them all.
@mareDBS7 жыл бұрын
Thank you for instant replay. Yes it is works as you described. Thank you. I use S1 for about 10days and it so nice. Im switch from Ableton who is slow buggy and unstable but it have very nice features. I will ony use Ableton as my second daw for Max for live plugins who are great for sound design, but S1 is way more better. Scratch pad is unbelievably usefull tool. Everything is so light and fast.

Awesom, Mare. Glad the tip worked out for you and that you're enjoying Studio One! I'll be uploading a full tutorial on the Record Panel at some point soon, here. I've tried to get into Ableton in the past, but the interface just didn't vibe with me. Best.

I'm having issues getting my Axiom Keyboard to get a response from Studio One 3. Any suggestions you have will be appreciated.
@quantaaudio8 жыл бұрын
Did you use the Axiom preset in the M-Audio folder when you added the keyboard in the External Devices area? One thing you may want to try is going to "Options/External Devices" select your Axiom and click "Edit". From within the new window, make sure that your Axiom is selected in the "Send to" section. Also, if you did use the preset to add your keyboard, there is a small note in the "Add Device" window for the Axiom that states: "Please select factory preset 19 on your Axiom keyboard..." Hope this helps.
