I cant wait to start queen hunting. Every time I go on a walk I see so many ants coming out of hibernation. Just a few more weeks and the right weather and I can start hunting. Great video, always nice to see exotic ants from other countries.

i TOTALLY relate to just subconsciously searching for queens. Ive found alot of them like that! The search and the reward is addicting The most best 'Accident' i found was i was looking at the ground, going downstairs to make some tea.. what is that?? damn thats a pretty big major, lemme get a closer look.. oh holy shit, its a queen!! *snatch and shoves into tube* awesome! And then she layed eggs a couple days later! bizzare. I didnt know i could hunt queens in my own home! its a Campontus Pennsylvannicus btw!

You are so lucky to live in Australia. Here in Poland all you can find in forest is Formica, Myrmica, Lasius and if you are really lucky Camponotus.

My eyes are always on the ground! I'm constantly on the look out... people probably think I'm raging crack addict. My neighbors probably think I'm nuts. We have huge amounts of solenopsis Invicta where I am. They're so fun to watch!!! ***definitely do a discord!

Sometimes it's hard work, often I go a couple of days only seeing workers. I find however, persistence always pays off. Good luck searching fellow ant keeper!

I found a Myrmecia Gilberti queen just a few days ago in the same area I found a Myrmecia Chrysogaster queen one month ago. Before I started ant keeping in Oct 2021 i never saw a bull ant. All of a sudden when I start ant keeping Im seeing queens pop up around me. Im always looking at my feet as i walk now on the lookout for any ant queens. Im happy you were able to find a bull ant queen.

You guys are so lucky you can just look at the flour and find an ant that’s worth more than 200€ just walking around, all i have is a 4 month period of queens flying and it’s only myrmica, lasius niger and lasius flavus 🥲

I live in France and I also look at the ground all the time for ants (and other things). But I also look on tree trunks and walls. It's funny to see that on the other side of the world, other people do the same :) The found queen is beautiful, I am looking for piliventris. Which would be cool. Since you live in Australia, it is to describe the environment where the Myrmecia live. Type of soil, humidity and heat and what ants eat in the wild.

I don’t know where you live but you should go to birdwood gully the bush tracks there have tons of bull ant nest and it’s where I found my funnel ant queen there are so many ants at that place

I do sometimes find myself trying to find queen ants looking at the ground when I hadn’t exactly planned too. But I’ve learnt now in my area the sp Iridomyrmex bicknelli are always flying or queens are always running across pavements during hot days and I’ve caught a little too many so I’ve gotta give away and sell a few now lol. Thx for the identification again on that Camponotus Aeneopilosus queen, it’s layed some eggs now. Really hoping to catch a Camponotus Consobrinus queen simply because of their unique colouration.
