Great video! Some people put the black light and white light together, to catch more ants. It works better if the lamp hangs at a height of one or two meters, or more, so that more wings can see it from a distance and be attracted, and the sheet also has a hanging side.

Hey!! I bought a blacklight a week after watching this video, and in one day I caught 46 Pheidole Tysoni queens! I didn’t expect to get this result with just a bedsheet and 25$ blacklight. If you put a container under the black light and put a layer of olive oil on the rim the queens that break off their wings can’t escape. Thus if you go out an hour or 2 after you put out the light you will have a lot of queens that are easy pickings. I caught 5 using this method

How to get some worker ants into your house: 🏠 🐜 1. Get food (any kind of food) 2. Crumble up the food into crumbs. 3. Wait for some hours.(minutes,seconds or days.) 4. Watch the ants come into your house! 🏠 🐜 How to make them a home: 1. Get a plastic bottle,scissors,hot glue,and sand/dirt! 2. Cut the bottle in half with the scissors. ✂️ 3. Make sure your phome lets air through it. 4. Cut the phome into a circle. 5. Use the extra part for a rectangle. 6. Hot glue the rectangle onto the circle. 7. While the hot glue dries,Fill the bottle up with your sand/dirt. (Fill it up halfway!) 8. Put the ants you found into the bottle of sand/dirt. 9. Put the phome cap on. 10. Watch your colony grow!

There's a species here in Brazil that looks uncannily similar to these possibly Thief Ant specimens. The alates are *notoriously* attracted to light (any light) and unbelievably numerous. There's a few days every year where the base of every street light is covered in this shifting yellow carpet, and if you forget your windows open, you'll find literally thousands of them inside. 99% males, and you'd be hard pressed to spot the females in the squirming mass, covered by a dozen horn dogs trying to get their slice of heaven before perishing. I once saw a Toad come by one of the posts and gorge for a good couple hours. The thing could barely walk when it decided to leave.

why do they like blacklight? what's with the cotton? Why do they take off their wings?
@EnderAnts
@EnderAnts 9 ай бұрын
For some reason bugs are attracted to UB light. Cotton allows air to pass through, cheap to purchase, and ants can’t chew through it. The queens take off their wings because they have no use for it anymore, and it can be a nuisance. Thanks for the questions and interest!

I think all those queens you caught died (6:02) due to a lack of water, because you kept them in bare and dry test tubes, just making sure you recognize your mistake so it doesn’t happen again. I do love this video though

Even they try to escape , still chance of being mated?

yes, you never know if they are mated or not since queens can still have workers and keep their wings
