The original recording was released 1975 but in live versions they never attempted to sing middle section, the rest was live. His half mic stand was from their very early days when a mic stand broke on him and he carried on with the half ... he used it from that day to the end. Great reaction 👏👏👏

Freddie broke his mic while he was performing with Ibex, it is a band that he was in before Queen.

As others have mentioned, huge respect to Queen in that they did not lip-sync, yet were able to have so much energy on stage. As they physically could not perform the central part of Bohemian Rhapsody live, then they simply walked off stage in the middle of the song, played the record, then came back for the end always, as you heard, to rapturous applause. It is a measure of the quality, intelligence and inventiveness of the band to turn a disadvantage - being unable to play their best known song live - into a superb bit of showmanship.

His mic stand broke on one of his earlier performances and he ended up liking it and he used it throughout his career

Queen always ran the audio of the recording of Bohemian Rapsody because the voices in that section were layered so many times to get the choral effect. They couldn't do it live. Next time you listen to this, notice John Deacon's booming bass at several points in this song. It really gives it an epic drive!

You should listen to the official video of Bohemian Rhapsody to hear the whole song and see how much different Queen was live from the records. Their live performances are legendary because they're hardly ever the same and Freddie brought such energy to the live shows. No lip synching to records here. They don't play the beginning of BoRap when doing it live and the middle part is recorded audio with pyrotechnics.

The really high notes are done by the drummer roger taylor he has a very unique voice This is in the 80s I think 1981
@queenremix13533 жыл бұрын
Really high notes what does that mean? Here Freddie sings bb4s really high notes, in pure chest voice which is harder than what Roger was doing.
@ZENOBlAmusic3 жыл бұрын
Not always, both Freddie and Roger had high falsettos. The Bohemian Rhapsody note is a Bb5, Freddie often did that note live during 1984 - 1986. Just as an example Don't Stop Me Now has a C6 note (which is obviously higher). Roger lost his high falsetto in 1979, in the 80's it was Freddie doing all of the high falsetto parts.

@@_deacythedancingqueen1493 Roger does have a really great voice, he could easily have been a lead singer, with his voice alone. People point out Roger's falsetto in every song, after the Bohemian Rhapsody movie. But often especially in the studio you will find that Freddie and Roger were singing those notes together. Freddie's falsetto was more consistently higher then Roger's falsetto, especially in the 80's. (Roger only did this Bb5 note once, Freddie did almost every night during 1984 - 1986). On the flip side Roger could more consistently hit the highest chest notes in his chest voice, because he was naturally a higher tenor then Freddie. Roger had that really incredible high resonate pitch in his falsetto, which was really unique and beautiful. He received scholarships to good schools because they wanted him in the choir for that amazing falsetto. Men usually lose that type of sound when they reach adulthood at around 18. It is actually quite amazing and impossible that Roger somehow managed to keep that falsetto until the age of 30!

Love seeing Queen performances! They never used backing tapes or click tracks during shows except for that one operatic section in BoRap you mentioned here. They just couldn’t reproduce that live so they let the tape play and the audience tsing along. Would love to see you react to Queen with Adam Lambert, Who Wants to Live Forever.

@trego55093 жыл бұрын
You can see Brian use the peddle in this concert in the song Get Down Make Love. Bohemian Rhapsody is the only song they use a pre recording in the mid-section as it was too complex to reproduce live. They also skip the first part of the song as it is only Freddie multi-tracked on the studio, so also not possible to do live.

Great analysis and reaction! Queen could not perform the middle section live, it had around 180 overdubs, it has choirs answering choirs. So this was one solution, sometimes they just played other songs in the middle. That is why they left the stage, to show they were not doing it live. You should check out Somebody To Love live in Montreal 1981 kzbin.info/www/bejne/l3KVeoWlhat8pJI or Now I Am Here live at the Hammersmith Odeon 1979 kzbin.info/www/bejne/ppzOd36Loqt9bZI. Rami Malek and Freddie Mercury does not look alike. But they certainly did try to make it slightly closer. There was no autotune and pitch correct correct in those days. But they did have pitch shifting. If you record something and speed it up it will be higher. But Queen did not use pitch shifting. They only used it once, and they actually slowed it down, in order to create a very low sounding bass voice. Freddie had a unique vibrato, it was slightly faster and irregular then most people's vibratos.

The operatic segment of this song was impossible to replicate live, obviously because of the multi-layered harmonies, so they always played that bit off the studio version. Everything else was live. Queen always put their all into their live performances. You should watch Somebody to Love live at Montreal, you’ll see why Freddie Mercury is considered the best vocalist in rock

Speaking to Freddie’s passion...it’s why many Queen fans give most covers 👎 it’s too personal. Fun tidbit. Roger has that gong as a garden ornament in his yard & Brian kept Freddie’s touring Steinway. Merry Christmas. 🎄🎄
