@@sucrette69 well she would have been in 1603 if she was still alive or looked after herself I am sure that Parliament would give her the crown since Henry changed the will and Edward started showing some proof that she was next in line and then Mary who found her as a threat and during Elizabeth reign I believe that she would have been some kind of threat to her rain since she was already married and had royal consent meaning Elizabeth can’t make her illuminate just like she made lady Jane grey younger sisters and don’t you think british Parliament would have give the crown to lady Jane grey because Mary queen of Scots was under house arrest and hated in Europe and England at that time was more Protestant then catholic and lady Jane grey is a strict Protestant were Mary queen of Scots is catholic but I would like to heir your thoughts and opinions to I would love to know your ideas and thoughts

I will always choose Elizabeth I because she proved that women could rule and her reign paved the way for the British Empire. Mary on the other hand was a very careless ruler who allowed men to take advantage of her. If she couldn't rule Scotland, I seriously doubt she had what it takes to rule England.

@@irawilliams343 Elizabeth reigned after a chaotic civil war brought on by Mary the first, her sister. She got lucky because when she took the throne the people were out of it and had finally settled, she never created any reforms that caused this stability, it was just luck. I do not deny Elizabeth is a great ruler and maybe even better than Mary but what I don’t think you understand is that there cannot be an accurate comparison due to the difference in circumstances. First of all Mary Stuart’s reign in France does not count as she was but a child and her reign lasted just over a year. Looking at her reign in Scotland, she was amongst powerful Protestant nobles who did everything in their power to remove her due to the fact that she was a catholic female sovereign. Elizabeth was a Protestant queen in a Protestant country there was no power struggle. Second of all, Mary Stuart’s privy council were known to be scheming and manipulative, especially John Knox who constantly planted evidence against her hoping to turn the tides and remove her from the throne which eventually worked. Looking at Mary’s successes she succeeded to produce an heir to both Scotland and England, she created many religious reforms that allowed people of all faiths and religions to practice their religion freely, she condemned religious prejudice and for once in a really long time conjoined both catholic and Protestant privy council member satisfying the religious factions for a brief period of time. She also cared about her people and would often implement refurbishments and restocking of grains to poor villages. Her reign was not a bad one in terms of the country as a whole, what was bad was her ability to maintain the throne, other than that the time she did spend on the throne was not badly spent, quite the opposite. Therefore her reign cannot be compared to Elizabeth’s as Elizabeth’s court was far more established and stable and most importantly accepted her and wasn’t constantly against her sovereignty. Even though Elizabeth was one of the most iconic and remarkable female monarchs in British history, and no one can deny her intelligences and her might, i argue that Mary ultimately won the battle as the Tudor line ended with Elizabeth, and Mary’s son James eventually United Scotland and England with the Stuart line ruling both nations after all.

Thank you! Finally, someone gave the truth. No offense, but Mary of Scots didn't even focus on ruling Scotland at all. No, she was busy daydreaming of ruling England instead. Which I think gave Scotsman another reason to hate Mary Stuart because she was never considered a real Scottish queen at least in their eyes. Now Elizabeth I is a real queen because she knew how to play the game of politics and tactics on keeping allies in her court. Not like Mary who's ever known to give people trouble and temper issues. After all, it was man's world still and Elizabeth knew she has to be careful and play their games but she keep her real power to herself. Not like Mary who sadly was just a figurehead for other men with real power.

Mary's arrival IN England wasn't only inconvenient but was the exact thing Elizabeth had feared since the beginning. Across Europe Catholics and Protestants were slaughtering each other and until then Elizabeth was able to keep the Catholics under her control but with Mary's arrival it meant that they had a figurehead around whom to rally. Which is exactly what happened.
