I was at this gig! I I love this album (Sheer Heart Attack) it came out about a year after I got into Queen and is still in my Top 5 albums. I’ve always loved both parts of In The Lap Of The Gods but this one holds a ‘special’ memory, I was in a band (wasn’t everyone?) and this was on of 4 cassettes (remember them kiddies?) we played in rotation in the drummers car, we lived in Kew (near the Gardens) and had to go about 5 miles to Twickenham to see a gig as a couple of girlfriends were there was not enough room in the car and for some reason I let my then girlfriend and the drummer talk me into going in the boot! (You had to love the 70’s and our care about health and safety) the speakers were in the shelf above my head and he played this twice at full volume while thinking it was a great laugh to break as hard and often as possible and go over every bump and kerb as fast as it was safe to do (he was an actor and had little in the way of common sense) it was a great night when we got there but I can’t remember how I got home, it definitely wasn’t in the boot! I love this song anyway but even more so for the memories. Love your videos it’s brilliant watching someone react to a song you’ve known for decades and forget some people haven’t heard, brings back that feeling when you first heard it. Have a great Bank Holiday!

OMG, I SO NEEDED THIS!!!😍 To me, this song is about the ending of a relationship. The OTHER song, “In The Lap Of The Gods” is about the beginning of (maybe the same) relationship. The other song is short, too… I just play them together back-to-back. (Just WAIT until you hear Roger’s DOG WHISTLE FALSETTO in the other one!) There’s a little-bit longer video of this performance from a “non official” (fan run) Queen channel that continues… You just missed watching all the Life-Size Naked Blow-Up Dolls (YES, that’s what I said; NO, I’m NOT kidding!) rain down from the ceiling! I read a comment once from someone who was lucky enough to see Queen/Freddie (I think in these early days when they were still playing these smaller indoor venues) and they said that with all the lights/atmosphere…. “it was almost like a religious experience”! P.S. Regarding this song at Wembley 1986… DOE, There are actually TWO Wembley concerts (if you didn’t already know) and… THE FRIDAY (July 11) PERFORMANCE IS SO. MUCH. BETTER. THAN SATURDAY (July 12). It is SO COOL to see how the decade-older(!) Freddie sings the first lines, compared to here. (For most of the songs on the Wembley set list, I prefer Friday over Saturday because on the second day, Freddie’s voice was in rougher shape/there are some voice cracks. ….A definite exception to what I just said, is…. “Under Pressure”… The SATURDAY, July 12 …IS. THE. ULTIMATE! …Oh Yeah, and “Love Of My Life”.😄) ANYWAY… Friday’s version of “In The Lap Of The Gods Revisited” flies under the radar, tho… I’ve only seen it reacted to once or twice. …I’ll make my explanation even MORE complicated: The reason Saturday’s version of this gets reacted to instead of Friday, is because it’s part of a medley… and for Saturday, there’s a convenient video showing the ENTIRE medley in-one-piece (that does make sense, I know!)… but for Friday, for some reason, it’s only available in “two chunks” ….which isn’t a big deal, they can just be viewed back-to-back… I actually put the two videos of the Friday medley in a playlist, so they play together automatically. SORRY for writing an Encyclopedia… This was just another bit of information (I’m sure you get TONS!) from this over-zealous Freddie fan.😄 P.P.S. LOOKING FORWARD to the “Out Of Body Experience” video!😇

Not only was Freddie a great singer but a brilliant musician. Oh and by the way, if you ever doubt yourself or if you ever feel like you're not good at something but most importantly do not feel confident within yourself as a musician, just remember that Freddie always considered himself as an amateur piano player. All you have to do is watch Queen's live performance at Wembley in 1986, you can see how fast his fingers movie on that piano. In a sense he caressed his piano with brutal force.

Although I think he got better and better over the years, there's something special about the voice of Young Freddie--purer, more precise, especially the higher notes and falsetto, which he made greater use of!

Fantastic! Little reminder, that was on live tv, Christmas Eve, such an amazing treat! This is one of my favorite Queen concerts of all time: the raw, unpolished imperfection yet so beautiful! I love how Freddie rolled his r's till it sounded more like a purr. Its concerts like this that are proof pudding that demonstrate Queen was destined for greatness from the get-go! To describe what you saw in two words "pure magic" I think sums it up pretty well. I totally agree, being there must have been like a divine, spiritual, out of body experience! While audience participation officially made itself known and was cemented with "we will rock you" and "we are the champions", the seeds were planted with "lap of the gods revisited". After that song, there is an encore medley-Big spender, jailhouse rock, stupid cupid and be bop a Lula. Definitely check out the original "lap of the gods" live at the rainbow. Freddie would sometimes say that Roger had a "dog whistle pitch" as a teasing compliment. This is a superb demonstration of that before "bohemian rhapsody". kzbin.info/www/bejne/rn_Qo51ro7mAhcU

Aww you missed all of Brian’s comments. Talked about it being a great year. Oh damn, you missed the blow up dolls too. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 look for the longer version. The 2 nd verse gets me every time. “Believe me life goes one and on and on…” so smooth. The lyrics are pretty great. FYI, Wembley show they only do the first verse & chorus of course. Wembley it’s the start of a medley, w/7 seas of rhye (Freddie goes crazy on piano) & then tear it up.

I realise IT'S A HARD LIFE and I'll probably be THE LOSER IN THE END although I'll certainly show some JEALOUSY towards the winner. I'll be left thinking WAS IT ALL WORTH IT? You are so right that this song suits the seventies. I have a whole bunch of full concerts saved, and the Wembley 86 performances of this are good too, but this is the definitive version for me. They ended the concert with this, but then they changed their clothes came back for an encore of cover songs, Big Spender and Jailhouse Rock, notably - Big Spender is like less than a minute but it's one of the most seductive things Freddie's ever done on stage.

@yvrkid70702 жыл бұрын
This song was the closing song until We Are The Champions replaced it in 1977. Freddie was LIVING every word! I love this song and they played it live for everything it was worth with the dry ice and the explosion at the end. I saw them live on the Day At The Races tour and it was the final song before the encores. It did go on longer but I think for this concert, because it had to fit into a certain time because it was on TV they had to shorten it. Brian still had this shirt during the Day At The Races tour. I'm sure everyone will tell you but you need to watch the Rainbow 1974 version of In The Lap Of The Gods. It's the other song and it highlights Roger's stunning falsetto. Thanks for the great reaction! I saw them do this song in 2019 on the Rhapsody tour as well. Just before Somebody To Love. 👏👏
