Maeve is a great example of how a good character with acting chops and a good writing team can make a strong female character that everyone can get behind and root for. Maeve is 100% my all time favorite portrayal of a non-hetero character. She was immediately exploited by the media, and Vaught. When they showed her the picture of her holding a rainbow flag, the eye-rolling in her expression was felt throughout her whole body. Absolutely an accurate portrayal of what happens in real life. "Fuck off and leave me alone, it's my life, not yours," is exactly the way normal people feel when they're treated this way. Seeing people exploit themselves willingly is like watching someone get bukaked in public, in front of everyone. It's why I don't want to talk about my past relationships, or whether or not I'm currently in one.

I'm very interested in the dynamic between Queen Maeve and Starlight because it has a lot of potential for nuanced discussion. If Maeve is Wonder Woman then Starlight is also Wonder Woman but an uncorrupted version, a foil to Maeve's corrupted version. Or Starlight could be a Donna Troy (or just Wonder Girl really) analog: Wonder Woman's successor. The latter is particularly interesting because the "successor's" mentor figure is corrupted yet they still managed to see the good and is actively bringing that good back out. It's an interesting inversion where the mentor becomes the student and the student the mentor. This is only really in the show though. The Boys comic is, not sugar-coating this, kind of mediocre at best because it's just a dark satire and doesn't do too much commentary while the show does everything it does just that much better.
