The british royal family should give thanks for Queen Mary having an interest in jewels. Her collection rivals most in the world. Fascinating lady.

Weird that nobody wanted to help the Romanovs, but somehow got all their jewelry 🤔
@janeknight35973 ай бұрын
They bought them. That’s how they helped. Giving money would have been politically impossible

George V was worried that if he was to help his cousin and his family, there'd be a revolution in The UK and the monarchy would cease to exist, given how many other European countries that had had royal houses had fallen as a result of revolutions.

@@danielleporter1829 interesting! I don't know enough about the UK side on this at the time...

Queen Mary bought large quantities of the Romanoff jewels for a SONG ! And the funds from those jewels were only partially paid to Olga and Xenia, Xenia received a grace and favor home at Kensington Palace, but Olga got very little, a couple of pearl necklaces and some Faberge jade animals.

So right , it says everything you need to know about the Winsor Clan. Watching " The Crown Season 5 " you clearly see it was Queen Mary who pushed her " dim witted" husband the king to refuse saving the Romonovs! from being slaughtered !! The Winsors didn't want an exiled Russian royal family living in England, they thought it would give ideas to the English people that they too could be free from a a Monarchy $$$$... The English people have executed their king in the past ,Charles I in 1649 and dissolved the monarchy , so English Sovereign's are very aware their position could become unstable, just look how many assassination attempts were made on Queen Victoria 7 Attempts.....

In this one, and by the way; sapphires are my favourite gem as it comes in so many colours and grades of colour changes, the honeysuckle iara is my favourite. I'd love to see it worn again. Jewelry is to be worn and shown off. It finishes and gives polish to any outfit.

I think this is one of the most dazzling collections covered in this series. By the way, it wasn't only jewels that Queen Mary liked to 'acquire'. When visiting aristocratic friends at their country seats, she was notorious for commenting that she 'liked' certain objects on display. Naturally, as hosts to The Queen, the owners of these items felt obliged to offer these items as gifts, which May was only too happy to accept. It was sometimes said that, after a long weekend as a guest, an extra van had to be sent just to transport Her Majesty's 'gifts' on departure.

Great video, thanks, always love finding out the history of some of these lovely pieces. I did notice that Queen Mary appears to have freakishly long earlobes, maybe a result of wearing heavy jewels, who knows.

Would love to see the sapphire sunray tiara on Princess Anne. She wears the sapphire and pearl choker and the tiara and choker look wonderful together. Sha also seems to have inherited the romanov sapphire and pearl drop brooch.

As I recall, the sons of HIH Olga complained to Q. Elizabeth that her grandmother had taken advantage of their grandmother's financial situation and age to grossly under-pay for the Empresses jewels. Q. Elizabeth wrote them a personal check to satisfy their claims. Of course, the gems have increased greatly in value since then. I noticed, too that when Q. Elizabeth visited Russia, she was careful not to bring any of the questionable jewels including those "acquired" from the family of the Grand Duchess Vladimir.

You mentioned Dusty Springfield, she presented a show on UK TV Ready Steady Go, introducing us Brits to Motown. I love the four Tops, Little Stevie and the Jackson’s. Most of your viewers will remember this too. I saw a video recently that the 4 tops stayed together and nver changed members like so other Motown groups. The You Tube video shows someon going to a Detroit cemetery where all four members of the groups are buried close to each other. Close to each other through most of their lives, even now after death. What a fantastic thing to do by their families. Iconic group still together.for that City.

I love Queen Mary and her sticky fingers… It’s such an outrageous thing for a Queen to snatch things she likes from homes she visits, and the way she brought the Russian Refugees over but passage was paid through them giving her their royal jewels😊

Well, now we know why George V failed to save his cousin and family. He was just out for the jewels.
@judieversaul42743 ай бұрын
No, they didn't take in the family because his advisors thought it might have led to people to think overthrowing the the English throne was a good idea, too.
