As far as the comparison between Rhaenyra & Dany is concerned, we are going to see WHY Rhaenyra became what she became and understand it's progression; whereas with Dany, they FLIPPED her in TOO SHORT A TIME! We may come to 'hate' Rhaenyra but at least we will understand what happened to make her the TYRANT she ended up as...

If you watched closely there have always been hints at Daenerys' dark side right from S1. She often choose measures that really didn't fit with a benevolent ruler and she clearly showed that she craved the Iron Throne for its own sake.

Rhaenyra's turn happens after losing those she loved and betrayal. Same as Daenerys. The difference is the fact that Dany witnessed the deaths of all of those she lost and like Rhaenyra, she's betrayed. Daenerys was pissed and if you really look at it, many Targ"s succumbed to madness via anger and paranoia. Her turn wasn't out of character as we've never seen her in this position. So how can we possibly say what she would do?

And grief! Daenerys was still human. She lost a lot in a span of two seasons. Mix that with a determination to become Queen by any means necessary and you get a disaster.

I think if they took the time to really show her grief of Dany, maybe even spend an ep focused on her it would have done more justice to her character esp with her going into madness. Yes they hinted at her darker side but they also showed growth as well from S1 to the final season. To me it just comes down to poor writing and short season.

I agree! With Rhaenyra we get to witness her descent, everything that makes her lose it. We get to understand and sympathize but also understand that she was no longer fit to sit the throne. I hate the way they just made Dany snapped with little to no hints of her mentality.

I thought in Game of Thrones [show] Cersei was the first queen, but in Fire and Blood [book], Raenyra sat the throne for 6 months. I was confused...but I guess since Aegon II scrapped that from the history books, she was forgotten about...I don't know...

Cersei was the first official queen though she had no right to it , she just took it. Rhaenerya is not recognized as an official Queen in the history books due to Aegon II’s erasing her. Daenerys , as the known last Targaryen and having a dragon , would’ve been recognized as queen but she died having never been crowned. So Rhaenyra and Daenerys are remembered as just claimants to the throne.

The best thing about the show is, they’ve made perfect character development! Everyone routing for Daemon or Aemond bad assery! Everyone loves Rhaenyra or milf queen Allicent!! They’ve made Aegon even far more complex: making him a fool the entire show and than when crowned he suddenly appears like a king and we somehow get sympathy with him. HBO has done it again..!

Aegon is better in the book though . Both as a character and as a person . - he actually cares about his kids and loves them and not ignores them - he shares a bed with Helaena and not ignores her - he only has 2 bastards ( any knight , Lord , Prince and King had that much ) - he never watched kids fight to death unlike in the show

aegon's also not a rapist in the books. the account of him enjoying children fighting pits or s/aing anyone is in the books, was from someone who was by rhaenyra's side, literally, on dragonstone. the account of the person that was near him stated that he wasn't a faithful husband, but the worst he did was sleep w/ sex workers and he was in love w/ a particular sex worker. even more frustrating to see alicent be a bad mother since that's not even in the books at all, neither are her judgy or snarky lines. most were from rhaenyra in the books. but then again, aemond being bullied isn't depicted the same way as in the show, since it was glossed over

As the Dance is based on the period of English History known as the Anarchy, Matilda and Rhaenyra are remarkably similar. Both lost their crowns to make relatives (Cousin Stephen and Brother Aegon). While Matilda was much luckier and lost none of her children while Rhaenyra was the opposite and lost over half of them in a 1 year period. Matilda also did not have the luxury of a supportive father and love of the people as Rhaenyra had. But both women gained and lost their crowns in similar ways. Both conquest and won the Capitals causing their opponents to essentially bend the knee to their reign. But of course when they arrived the treasury was dry and they had no access to funds. Hence the taxation, but with Matilda not only did she lose support of her people the council as well as they essentially gave her up. Both women reigned for Six Months before being run out of the capital. Matilda thankfully made it safely while sadly we all heard what happened to Rhaenyra. But what’s funny again is that both women have been essentially scrubbed from their history books. With Matilda being “Lady of the English” and Rhaenyra just being a Princess. They also won in the long run with both of their Dynasties moving on to survive. Although of course Rhaenyra’s isn’t as lucky in about 200 something years and all but dies out in the show. But hopefully in the books Dany is successful.

With Martin being invovled with production of the TV show it will be interesting to get definitive answers. I've heard others say that the books can't trusted b/c the sources are biased. It will be interesting to see if the show becomes the official source, and only Martin has the power and the authority to say.

Yea the show aging up Rhaenyra & aging down Alicent & Laena was a bit weird to me but I understood it. I root for Rhaenyra either way because she was named the heir! Book Rhaenyra is definitely more spoiled & ruthless from the beginning but I don’t like the Daenerys comparisons. Rhaenyra grew us as a princess with an inheritance at the height of Targaryen power! Daenerys had nothing but a name & an abusive brother & didn’t have any ambitions or entitlement to the throne at 1st she just wanted a home. So Daenerys going for the throne was out of duty of being the last of her house. The show did a horrible job of showing her “descent” into madness it was rushed & underdeveloped & made no sense. Rhaenyra lost her father, her birthright, & a baby in the same day! Then to loose another child right after! You could see how she turned! Daenerys spared jaime Lannister with whom she heard bedtime stories about killing yet killed hundreds of thousands of innocents after they surrendered! So she was mad enough to burn innocent children alive but not mad enough to burn her father’s killer who was going to aid her enemy? Yea ok f*ck you dumb & dumber!

So Rhaenyra and Daenerys are remembered as just claimants to the throne.

Therefore she was in essence “usurping” the crown from the rightful heir. There’s a reason why no female ever had a claim to the throne in the generations following the dance.

Criston Cole breaking harwons bones was just one telling. I do believe there was at least one other story regarding that incident. It's seemed all the big moments in the book had at least two or more versions of each story told by different maester. They only record what a maester writes not what thousands see.

She’s technically 12th in line for the throne as it stands now. 11 if you consider that Luke is dead now

And we all know what happen in any patriarchal society what they say about most of woman that arise to power like Rhaenyra. Yeah, i agree the show kinda changed her to make her more palatable to the big public. She was arrogant and self-entitled, as any royalty. She was a princess and trained to rule, and i love the Rhaenyra from Milly Alcock, because she is very real and have some arrogant moments. But everyone grows and get more mature, and GEORGE RR MARTIN has a big participation on the show, so he maybe showing us some other perspective. Other thing is that i DISAGREE about Rhaenyra naming Baela's her heir and princess of Dragonstone. Baela is not her blood nor her daughter. SHE is the heir, and her blood will inherit. And If Joffrey had marry, and had a daughter> She would inherit. So that doesnt make much sense

I think dragons are instinctual like all others in the natural world and don't care about "societal norms" like humans do. For example dogs will hump anything that makes them happy, Clown fish will transition from male to female when the current female dies, and dolfins will masturbate with anything it wants whenever it wants regardless of the sex or species of that other thing. Gender is just not important to those creatures.

No, they are very much binary, but it's theorised that dragons could change their sex if needed, like some animal species. So, IN THEORY, with only two dragons, you could revitalise the whole species, since even of they were both females, IN THEORY, one of them could become male.
