They were worried that Bohemian Rhapsody wouldn't get airplay because it's too long and it incorporates too much opera into it. This song is the longest in Queen's repertoire, and much darker sounding than even most Black Sabbath songs that got airplay at the time, with two and a half minutes of nothing but Freddie's voice overlaid with itself. It would never have gotten on the radio back then. It's a gem that was doomed to obscurity from the start.

A Night at the Opera was a very generous album. It offered not one long ballad, but two. This song is one of the best songs of the 1970s and is one of the best Queen songs of all time. After this, you get the soothing sounds of Love of my Life, before barreling into a jolly warm song with Good Company. Following that is the masterpiece of art that is Bohemian Rhapsody before ending with God Save the Queen. Beautiful B side

Also think so. It seems the group have paid much attention to BR, making it a masterpiece. And The Prophet`s song was left as is. It is too long for single, Freddie`s solo sequenzas and choir part lack something special, the song is ending with a transition to Love of My Life instead of own coda. But the music material is excellent- it could be a real sympho rock superhit. Pity, it is not.

When I was a kid and all these technologies around us were unimaginable, I recorded a whole virgin cassette (both sides) only with this song to enjoy it nonstop without rewinding and forwarding all the time :) I was crazy in love with this song... I'm still but now I only need to press the replay buttom xD It makes me feel old :(

This song is criminally underrated. It's an absolute masterpiece! In my opinion, it puts bohemian rhapsody in the shade. Keep rocking into 2022!

Just like every other song on this masterpiece of an album, this one is overshadowed by Bohemian Rhapsody, and yet in a lot of ways it's even more revolutionary.

Honestly I think this is better than almost any rock song, even stairway. It's more complex than stairway, it pulls off one of the most amazing arrangements ever, and it wasn't accused of being stolen
