@@timothycheuvront8284 In Arizona, we use them all the time cold mornings and evenings we get here even in the desert winter. It's not for nothing "cold desert nights" has been used in literature going back hundreds of years. I've never have quite understood people saying that heated seats or steering wheels are not needed south of Canada or south of our northern-tier states. In our state's "high country" - which comprises some of our taller mountains and the Colorado Plateau or about a third of the state, like many parts of the Rockies including their southern reach, it regularly gets below 0°F. Our record in AZ is -40°F, with some unofficial accounts below that. A remote official weather station in eastern AZ, now gone, used to trade off fairly regularly with Gunnison, CO, for the low in the lower 48.

Awd in winters is just another level, those who know - know. Braking might be the same but you accelerate just as many times you break if not more. All you get with an FWD when Accelerating is wheel spin. Try it out- take the exact same car such as a Mazda 3 that has FWD and AWD options. Put the same winter tires and drive around in a city with different types of road - such as hilly roads, sharp turns/ curvy fast roads etc. let’s see how the FWD drive performs.

regarding the Ford Escape question, hybrid vs PHEV... one factor that doesn't get mentioned enough is the living situation... If I lived in a house with my own garage or at least my own driveway, I can plug it in when I get home and in the morning all set to go. Great! But I don't live in a house, I live in a highrise and only recently the building added two whole charging spots in the guest parking lot... I would say more often then not, when I drive by... at least one spot or both are being used. Which means, I would have to time around others, and then I'd have to go down and move my car when it's done. Sometimes, after I get home, I get comfy... I'm settled in for the night... I would really hate to have to go back down to move my car. To me, it's just an inconvenient... Even worse for those that have to go out of their way even more to charge. A regular hybrid would be the better choice for some people.

While it could be selling well enough in other corners of the US/Canada than I've seen in Texas or California,the new Prius seems cool and not selling as well as it could be. It seems like a good, car-like, futuristic, and more efficient value than the RAV4 hybrid, Corolla Cross hybrid, Honda CRV hybrid, etc. The only A to B hybrid car in that price bracket that would tempt me away from the Prius would be the new Civic hatchback hybrid or maybe the new Camry. I think American/Canadian buyers prefer crossovers, but also likely prefer the more conservative styling found in cars like the Camry or CRV.

Maybe it's different in Northeast but here in California, many people get overconfident driving to Tahoe on all season tires because they have AWD and highway patrol waves them through, and get into all sorts of trouble they would have avoided with humble FWD + snow chains on same tires. Go for the Escape PHEV instead of regular hybrid, they're a terrific deal! We got our 2022 when we went shopping for new (it was too good a deal to pass up) and my neighbor loved it so much he just got a new 2024, base model no options; the $5k package is silly stuff, you don't need it, the base model you still get heated seats, power liftgate, power driver seat etc. Plus I think you can still get employee pricing and in BC it's $7000 rebate total from both govs, so it's like $10k off plus 0.9% financing. Used Rav4 Primes with 100k kms cost more to buy!

For example, a repair shop indicated that your rotors are pitted, suggesting that they should be changed out. Or your ball joints are 1/64 of an inch out. Only to determine they are well within tolerances. Shocks are another example. Not everyone is buying new vehicles, so a show dedicated to these types of issues would be great to hear your opinions on. No disrespect to female operators/daughters, but I have encountered these issues both myself and my daughter. Making a poor decision with this type of misleading trend can be expensive. Does it make any sense to spend 40k on a new car to save money on gas
@rotaxriderАй бұрын
Thats my argument too. The math doesn’t add up. If I’m driving an older vehicle that gets a combined mileage of 9 or 10 litres for example especially if the vehicle is paid your not going to recoup that money. It’s an expensive way to get a fuzzy warm feeling when you’re fueling up.
@SinghN2338Ай бұрын
It really depends on the amount of driving being done. If you drive 20k plus a year it might be worth it. Also if you are in the market to buy something new or a newer used vehicle then this would be an option since you are going to spend a good amount of money anyways. I'm in the market and am comparing every option I can. I get around 10km/L on my 2001 Honda CRV . With the Civic Hybrid that would be double at around 20km/L cutting my fuel cost by half. I tend to keep my vehicles for 10 to 12yrs so the fuel savings would bring the cost of ownership down. The more you drive, the more you save with the hybrids and evs. Do the math and see if the amount of driving you do and the fuels cost will be worth paying the premium for these Hybrids and EVs. If I did less than 10k of driving a year, then I probably wouldn't go for a hybrid and look for other options.
