As a few others have said, torque is the force that gets you moving. Horsepower is a specific amount of "work" over a set time. Torque is that thrust you feel when you get moving. Higher horsepower allows you to continue to go faster and faster (top speed). So, low HP and high TQ means quick acceleration and reduced top speed. High HP and low TQ means slower acceleration (TQ) but higher top speed (HP).

The disadvantage of the upper cutlery drawer is that it limits how densely you can pack the second drawer. The top drawer has no spray arms of its own; the water from the second drawer's spray arms has to be able to spray op through both top drawers. So if you cover the second drawer with large bowls the cutlery won't get cleaned. But one learns how to deal with this. I like the top cutlery drawer. It takes longer to arrange the cutlery on it, but putting the clean cutlery away takes almost no time at all.

And we couldn't even have a conversation without yelling within the vehicle going down the road!! Dishwasher: I tell my kids that if it fits and gets clean (and doesn't melt plastics), then there is no right/wrong way. "It's not that deep", as my teens would say to people arguing about it. That being said, I put the knives down so that I don't get stabbed, but everything else goes in BOTH directions so that they don't line up together (e.g. "spoon") and not get clean in between them! Some people use the molded tray covers for silverware, but then you are forced to put it upwards and can only fit a few things there.

Different packaging (colours for instance) in various markets. The reason is also that they have to decide which factory or factories to pull the cars from and what that factory has set up. So with my Elantra they had the same model (different name) made in the USA factory .. BUT it had the digital dash OPTION, dual heating system, and the light grey interior on my lower model .. BUT my more basic set up had a leather shifter and steering wheel (HEATED - with a nicer button placement beside the heated seat buttons) - but again manual heating controls of the lower model. Mine came out of South Korea so almost certainly the USA factory just had different supplies on hand .. so the digital dash at that point was only in Canada if I were to get the top leather model (which had the grey interior option right) PLUS adding the expensive option package .. and that model I understand came out of that USA plant. It also I felt the USA factory was pretty tapped out - or lets say content - just supplying a high demand USA market.

You're partially correct Zack! Torque is the twisting force on an object. But, HP is a measurement of the amount of work that torque can accomplish within a time frame. HP is defined as moving 33000 lbs, 1 foot in 1 minute. Contrary to popular opinion, Dyno's do not measure HP, they measure torque. There is a calculation that the machine does to arrive at a HP figure. Torque X RPM ÷ 5250. The engine RPM is the time part of the HP equation. If an engine produces 100 lb ft of torque at 4000 RPM, you can determine the HP that is produced at that engine speed. 100 X 4000 ÷ 5250. Answer = 76 HP. The more torque an engine develops at a given engine speed, the more HP it will have. Trust this helps and sets to rest the HP vs torque debate

Our LG dishwasher does not allow us to choose up or down for cutlery. The cutlery handles need to drop through small handle-sized holes that are at the top of the cutlery basket. Only the handles fit through the holes. The wide ends of forks and spoons won’t fit through the holes. The holes act as spacers that keep each cutlery piece from touching its neighbor. Washing fluids probably don’t enter the mesh basket as well, so that’s another reason to keep the dirtier wide ends outside the basket.

Torque vs Horsepower - oh I love talking about that as it was a quandary for a long time for me to understand. I started to understand it when I sold my '77 Civic to move and my Grandfather gave me his 15 year old '74 Dodge Coronet with the 318 V8 and instead of flooring the car and letting the gears allow me to go faster or slower, there was this neat thing called an accelerator which varied speed. That V8 only had like 150 hp but wonderful torque which was one of the first - oh oh - I am liking (beside the comfortable bench seat - with equally impressive springs plus the usual foam) that torque of not running that engine up but I feel that grunt pushing me against the seat. Bob Lutz - old story - but he was just in to Chrysler after being the VP of BMW and he was having BMW re-engineer an engine he knew about (intended originally for the 3-series) to fit in the Neon's engine bay - AND - bad news but the 4 speed auto was up to its eye-balls in a problem they were trying to figure out a "real" solution for and they did not want it in another volume car yet - so Lutz pulled the dated 3 speed from the Omni/Horizon cars and added computer control to it BUT ALSO he had BMW drop the HP of that engine to boost the Torque - and as he said, torque allows the engine to compensate for a lack of gears.

Torque is what you use to get moving. Horsepower is the rate that the torque can be delivered. If the car has high torque (like the diesel Cayenne) then horsepower doesn't matter as much. If the engine is high revving and has low torque then horsepower will matter more. Like the old Hondas that can rev to 7000 to 9000 rpm, you have to rev the heck out of those engines to get going because their torque number is so low.

For germophobes, it just makes sense to put it down because we don't want to touch your dirty, used utensil that was in your mouth. for the women debating on the Lexus or Kia, the NX is perfect for 1 person. It is big enough. Though sometimes when I want to transport larger items like going on vacation with multiple suitcases, you would need to fold the rear seats down. Other than the car is fantastic, enough power, its fuel efficient, its "sporty" and you have the Lexus name to make it a luxury car.

Torque vs horsepower; oh boy... The old car guy saw that 'torque is what shoves you and power is what makes you go fast in a top speed" is not correct. Horsepower is calculated as torque * RPM. If you have a car that is torquey at low RPM, by definition it's producing more horsepower at that RPM. Where people get lost in the weeds is that when we say "horsepower" we talk about peak horsepower, which is near the top of the rev range as Zack mentioned, most people want it low in the rev range for drivability reasons. The reason why this always gets mixed up is because people compare apples to oranges. When we say that we prefer torquey engines compared to high horsepower engines, it's always comparing either a bigger engine or a turbo against a smaller engine, so you're comparing engines where the the torque at each RPM is always higher (bigger engine), or the torque peaks at a lower rpm (turbos).
@billurban15818 күн бұрын
To reduce the definitions to their essence, torque is a measurement of force, horsepower a measurement of work. I can apply 1,000 lb ft of “torque” with a “torque” wrench or any wrench, inside a long pipe for leverage, but I can’t do much work. In fact, NO WORK IS PERFORMED IF I CAN’T MOVE THE WRENCH. The formula for horsepower is lbs ft times rpm divided by 5252. In my example, “rpm” is zero. 1,000 times 0 is 0.

Zack, a good example with the Porsche diesel. A related diesel anecdote: big truck diesels of 12 to 15 litres displacement include a specification for “clutch engagement torque.” Getting 80,000 pounds or more moving from stationary takes a big effort. These engines typically develop 800 lb ft or more at 800 rpm. Maximum torque at 1100 or 1200 RPM might be 2000 lb ft.
