Just bought a xj Cherokee that was failing to heat watching your video inspired me to jam my garden hose up the flow and return lines alternatively until they respectively diarrhoeaed all over the engine bay. Then it was clear like the end of an enema. My car heater is now hot like a bogan on her first night out on the town.

Decided to try this on my '99 Cherokee this afternoon after watching your video. Was surprisingly easy, and I went from absolutely no heat at all to so much heat that it's almost unbearable LOL Feels like a new vehicle now, this winter in Nova Scotia is gonna be alot better now!

That's awesome to hear. I'm glad it worked! Be safe. I heard we could get a lot of snow or we may get none, so we're preparing for everything.

A new water pump really will help with flow and it has a notorious clogging problem in the pump itself so there a little tip its a Jeep thing

Thank you for the tip! The cool thing about older Jeeps is they're usually easy to fix.

It's not a perfect cure, but it definitely made it a little warmer, which was good since it basically had no heat. Haha.

My only advice would be to use caution with the amount of pressure you run through the heater core, especially on an older model. If I recall correctly, the coolant system is typically charged around 10-20 psi and the average water pressure, if living in a municipality, is around 60 psi; so you could easily blow the core and it’s a b@tch to replace! Same with air pressure, I would keep it around 20 psi if you’ve got good flow. I would advise initially to do a complete system drain, do a light flow to remove loose gunk, remove the thermostat, and add a system cleaner like thermocure and then go with your procedure as done! Excellent video though! Thanks!

Yes! Thank you for the good advice. I'm not sure if I mentioned it in the video, but this is very true. So many places "power flush" the systems, which isn't good.

Thank you for that video, I have done that with my xj today. The heater core was totally blocked - now it's blowing so hot

How’s it running now? Did you have any coolant system issues? How’s your heater core? Have you noticed any coolant loss?

nice video - didn't you use any additives when flushing ?

Hi. No, we just flushed it with straight water. Of course, when we refilled it, we used brand new antifreeze. Thank you for watching.

It's understood that Matt knows the exact location of these lines he is flushing. However, when people search for these types of videos they do not. It's too easy to skip over the elementary parts of a repair when you are familiar with the job. Because of this I have to look for another video..

Thank you for the suggestion. I will keep that in mind for future videos. Usually when I provide lots of detail, people comment and say there was too much info, and I should’ve gotten right to the point. It’s a lose lose no matter what I do. I hope you find a video that helps you out.

There's only 2 hoses that come from the firewall the top is in or hot the bottom is out or cold you follow them from the wall to the water pump and disconnect them always alternate starting with the out/cold

@thezekeprelliottexperience4907 yeah, that is great, and I also learned that the bigger hose is the incoming one. But I learned this from a different video. Folks, I understand it takes time to make a video. If it's a diy video put yourself in the shoes of someone who has zero knowledge on that repair or process. It's human nature to skip over simple details because those become second nature for you, but not for me who hasn't done it before.. thank you

@frankbrown5321 if you don't know where the part is or what it looks like you have no business under a hood 💯 that's how bad things happen. Now someone like me has to fix what you messed up and the original problem. I'm generally speaking just to be clear, but it happens sooooooo often and the things I've seen the DIY community do is disgraceful to both them and their vehicles. Point being if you have no clue what you are doing call someone that does and take it to them.

@thezekeprelliottexperience4907 yeah no, I've replaced ball joints, axels transmissions, and many other parts on vehicles. It's the quality of the videos that allows me to perform these repais. A crap video is useless for someone who has not done the work before. My repairs are solid, and I don't need your help, just a quality step by step video.
