Great solution to what could become a complex problem. Electrical could easily become a nightmare! Lots of folks overthink how to solve what's wrong, and often resort to a whole lot more than what's really needed. Keeping it simple is the way to go. And it works on my 93 sportster. I put adjustable flashers on mine because after riding for a while you use them they blink like a strobe like and that fixed it.

All your fixes are so straightforward, practical and the best part, well explained. This idea of using 2 automotive flashers is so simple. I think there is a way to use just one but the extra wiring on the ground side would be much more bother than the extra $7 for 2nd flasher. I have used an aftermarket turn signal controller on a few projects in the past. More expensive but on bikes that I ride a lot, the extra ~$80 I think was money well spent. The units I have used are from Badlands. Some models replace the OEM unit, no wiring required. They offer a less expensive, "generic" unit, intended for bikes that have no OEM signal canceller - they do required some wiring like you have done with the 2 automotive flasher units. The Badlands modules are solid state reliable and offer; self cancelling turn signals that does not need a signal from the speedo, 4 way hazard flashing and they work with both conventional and LED bulbs. Just an FYI

Cool fix, I was having the same issue with my 94 fxdwg. But found the my right bankruptcy., rear, was a 2 contact, and my left, Was a single pole bulb. So I put l,e,d, rear bulbs , problum fixed.

Good job! Most wouldn't know where to start looking. My issue is riding one of the self cancelling bikes, then jumping on the Panhead without. On road runs I now use hand signals as I kept forgetting to cancel them...........

Hand signals are the way to go. I love confusing cagers. They dont even f**kin know what blinky bulbs are, the sure dont know what hand signals are! And yes i sometimes use hand signals on my dyna. After riding my pans for years old habits are hard to break

I always use hand signals no matter what I’m riding lol. I’ve never had signals till my Dyna and it only got them to pass inspection

Good you got your blinkers working. Push the button and both front and back stay on it's got to be the flasher module. It's getting power were power is supposed to go. I just googled flashers and I seen a used one for $120, that is crazy. After I got over the shock I still think I would look for a used one for the Fatboy and just go without until I found one. I hate that they always cancel before you make it to the stop sign and have to push it again. Keep doing what you're doing and what ever flashes your bulb.

A little funny story for you . Last time I went to the HD store I went to the parts department to buy something . The parts person helped me and I made a joke about it being the hundred dollar store . He smiled and said to me that the saying had changed . He said it now meant "ha dummy " . I can kinda see his point being things there are pretty expensive ...Any way I thought it was kinda funny . . Looks like your Dad has also taught you basic wiring skills . But not sure why you had to use two flasher units ? But informative as usual ...

These flashers were only single flasher units. When they need to be replaced I’ll get one that does both sides

Soooooo . . . . . . . . On my 2008 H-D Dyna Low Rider I have a SSM. Security Signal Module (SSM) If it goes bad you cannot start your Harley. They do not make them anymore and are no longer in stock. I don't know what year models these devices are used on. I have read that some riders with this failure had to go to salvage yards and try to find one that still works. Mine is OK with 37,000 miles (usa). HaHa it probably will fail next week since I told you about them. Of course you would have to mate up this device with your FOB key set. (Reprogram it) Take Care and Ride Safe. P.S. H-D dealerships will not work on Harleys over 10 years old down here in the USA. So now I am guessing they may refuse to help reprogram your security system on older bikes and tell you to buy a new one. Haha. Bastards!
