I literally paused the video to purchase this ASAP. Washing my makeup brushes can be such a pain so thanks Nicole! Looks like this gets the brushes super clean so why not? For those who are skeptical about washing your face brushes like this you may want to start with the eye brushes and continue to 'soap & water' clean face brushes. That will still cut down a ton of time :)

This is great for spot cleaning but it's not the best hygienic cleanse. NikkieTutorials did a video on this and while she recommended it for fast spot cleaning, she still also recommended a good regular soap cleaning every week or so. She also didn't dip the entire brush end into the liquid. She dipped it just enough so the liquid was pulled close to the ferrule. This keeps the glue in the ferrule from deteriorating faster. It also keeps you from wasting product as your brushes can soak up A LOT, especially the larger face ones. Saying the scent isn't very strong is kind of.. an exaggeration? It's actually quite strong and it's very noticeable after they dry. While it doesn't bother me, it will probably bother some people quite a bit.

I also use this method to spot clean but give them a nice bath once a month because I have so many brushes in rotation. While this can definitely clean all your eye brushses, I feel like for face and brushes you use with liquid products, you need a good lather. And as for my brushes in my mua kit, I spot clean and deep clean those brushes with a bath once I'm done with the job.
@Juicymeu
@Juicymeu 10 жыл бұрын
I guess she meant the scent isn't strong if you let them sit around before using them so the scent disappears as she does, because she thinks the scent is pretty strong if you use it directly after cleaning.
@TheSwauzz
@TheSwauzz 10 жыл бұрын
Dana H Yes, the scent is very very strong right after cleaning but it's still quite strong after they've been sitting, even for a few days. It never completely goes away is what I'm trying to say.

Super easy, cheap, and probably the BEST cleaning method is: dish washing soap and extra virgin olive oil. Put them on a dish and swirl the brush in it. The dish washing soap will kill 99% of bacteria and olive oil will recondition the brushes that lost its natural oil from soap. And with this method, not only the brush will get clean but, honestly, gets better the more you wash them :)
@stradivari001

YAAAAS. Guy, this is seriously the best method. No strange chemical and natural oil. Thanks for reminding us :)
@TheDevSea
@TheDevSea 10 жыл бұрын
I did this for quite a long time, which I thought was the best method, but when I started using baby shampoo, I was in awe. My brushes are noticeably softer and they don't have that oily residue that you sometimes find when you use the oil.
@RikiMatsui
@RikiMatsui 10 жыл бұрын
Baby shampoos actually don't disinfect. Which is why I use olive oil. Dishwash soap+olive oil will remove pigments, dirt, and bacteria. When I wash my brushes everyday, I usually have to put them under running water for a good couple of seconds to minutes, depending on the size of the brush, to remove residues. Just paper towel to wipe and dry the brush hairs facing down so the waters don't go into the brush, loosening the glue that's holing the hairs together.
@lovedatolive
@lovedatolive 10 жыл бұрын
Olive oil only for brushes with real hair. Otherwise it'll ruin synthetic brushes. It takes away its function.
@TheDevSea
@TheDevSea 10 жыл бұрын
***** Synthetic brushes don't dry out or harbor bacteria in the same way true hair does, and they are often made to be bacteria-resistant. Baby shampoo works well to deep clean and moisturize the bristles, and I like to spritz them with alcohol as an extra step to kill germs. You could also just use the dish soap without the olive oil.
@paolamcordero

This stuff is the best! It's what I keep in my kit, something I've found very useful to get the most bank for my buck is actually putting it in a spray bottle and spraying the brushes directly instead of dipping them into a dish. More sanitary and you use it sparingly since it is a little pricey. But I feel you, it's definitely the best after a day of makeup and you have to tons of brushes to clean 😜

Many people use this type of cleanser as their only form of cleaning, and it's rather misleading. The no-rinse, alcohol based cleansers should really just be used as spot cleaning. They aren't going to fully clean the brush, particularly if you're worried about disinfecting.
@erinnay277
@erinnay277 10 жыл бұрын
I find that this brush cleanser takes the same amount to time to dry as the MAC brush cleanser, and is used the exact same way, as a spot cleanser. Brushes still need to be deep cleaned with a disinfecting soap and water and left to dry overnight, and done nightly if using them on clients.
@veess227
@veess227 10 жыл бұрын
Yuriem Espinal I must have missed her saying its the only way she cleans them now! ***** Jocelyn g personally don't think the Mac cleanser is the greatest to be honest. I mean it does the job but I think you could get better for less money especially if you are on a budget - in saying that - it lasts ages. I actually did a video on how I spot clean using the mac cleanser and how I deep clean my brushes. No pressure - only mentioning it because you asked about the cleanser :) - for me personally I need water and cleanser to feel like I have thoroughly cleaned them. Anything will do, baby shampoo, olive oil, dishwashing liquid etc.

How do you clean your precision brushes for gel liner? I find if I swirl them on the paper they end up fraying and not being as sharp of a line. Then I end up spending 10 minutes trying to gently press the makeup off, not fun.

I hateeee washing my brushes but it's an absolute must. I used to do this with my mac brush cleanser but now I use the sigma spa glove which makes the process so much easier. I'm like how did I ever live without this thing! LOL
